Cat5 coupler not working?

Hi all, I wanted to extend my network cable, so I went to the store to buy a Cat5 coupler recommended by a friend. I connect the original cable to one side and the new cable to the other side, then I connect it to my pc, but it still says “network cable unplugged” with the X mark on the connection icon. why is that happening? I really need to extend that cable without wireless connections. thanks in advance.

p.s. the new cable i bought is 15 meters long.

Linksys WRV54G not working??

I have an old router that has worked for many years. This router all the sudden went dead when I hit the reset button. I have configured it. AT&T is my service provider through PPPoE. They configured it and said I was online. I know all my cables everywhere are good. If I hook my modem directly to my computer it works.
My Problem is that I cannot get online!
Well as you were saying… When I connect my computer directly, I had to set up my computer, kind of like a dial up connection so it does it instead of the router. I had printed out all the pages of the settings be4 I reset it.

Why isn’t my wireless router working?

So, I have a laptop, not a desktop. I have a DLink DI-604 wireless router. To get it installed I plugged the DLink Ethernet cord from my laptop to the LAN port 1, and my internet Ethernet cord from my router to the WAN port. I did the set up wizard where I made a password and selected my type of Internet connection (the choices were Static, Dynamic and PPPoE…I chose Dynamic because it said most cable modem users will have a dynamic IP address). It said to configure the router by going to the network connections, viewing the properties of the Local Area Connection, clicking on internet protocol and clicking on properties again. In my menu there we’re two “internet protocol” choices…..4 and 6, I forgot which one I chose. According to someone on here I should have been able to unplug my laptop from the router, switch my laptop to wireless and my internet should work, but it didn’t. What can I do to make it work?

Here are pictures of my network pages so if I need to click on anything you can just tell me.

Sorry, the modem is connected to the router, it’s connected to the WAN port

Please help! Wireless internet connection not working on PC (but fine on other PC and laptop) Cannot renew IP.?

I have now spent an almost solid 24 hours on this.

We have an NTL cable modem, a Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS wireless router and a Sweex LW053 54mbps wireless LAN USB 2.0 adaptor.

We have 2 x Dell PCs and 1 x Samsung Netbook (all running XP). Yesterday morning all three were running fine, but by the afternoon our main desktop would not connect to the internet. Both the other PC and the Netbook are fine (thankfully).

I am not very hardware minded so you may have to bear with me here! The wireless network connection icon in the toolbar tray has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it with the status: “limited or no connectivity” however the network seems to come and go (it also keeps trying to get onto my neighbours!?) and the signal strength says five bars.

Also, when I click on view wireless networks it gives me a great big spiel about how it cannot configure the wireless connection and tells me to start the WZC service.

I have tried the following:
* Rebooting (including switching everything off at the mains for an hour… just in case)
* Clicking on the “repair” button.
* Run a full scan (with AVG free) and Spybot Search & Destroy.
* CMD ipconfig /release and /renew
* CMD netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
* CMD netsh winsock reset catalog

I have also had the blue screen of death approximately 5 or 6 times now, which worries the hell out of me. This usually happens when I click on something (nothing specific) to do with the wireless connection (last time was when I tried to use the repair button).
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc00010003, 0xAD04FBA4, 0×00000000)

So long as it connectes to the internet I don’t care whether it’s wired or wireless (the router is, like, on the PC) but we’ve been wireless so long now I don’t even remember how to do that (lame, I know).

Please help! I don’t know what else to do.

Thanks,

Wendy

My browser wont work, I can use the browser in safe mode though. and in normal mode I can still ping to websites just fine. I installed multiple browsers to check if its my IE 7 and none of them work. I tried all the simple fixes like checking firewall and TCP/IP Anti virus and firewall, I tried the winsock fix. Someone recommended try a program called combofix.exe so I installed it and now I have the log file but I cant read it :) its complicated to understand what I should delete or keep. So I post my log file here and if someone knows/understands what do do with the information then please let me know. Any help will be appreciated. here is log:

i disabled DHCP server. dynamic ip still working?

i want my home network to have static ips. i disabled the DHCP server. however, even the in the tcp/ip settings i’ve chosen in another computer that connects to my router wirelessly, “i’ve selected obtain ip address automatically”, i am still able to access the internet.!
WHY?????

Internet and Firewall isn’t working after MalPak virus?

Our internet is really screwed up right now. Today, I got the same exact adware virus that I have been getting for the past couple months. It’s the type that tries to pass off as a fake antivirus scanner, but it is actually infecting your computer (it’s called MalPak or something like that).
We have Webroot, and whenever this virus shows up out of the blue, these are the steps I take that have ALWAYS worked:

1.) Run a full scan the computer
2.) quarantine and delete the virus
3.) restart the computer
4.) turn on Windows firewall (because the virus always turns it off somehow)
5.) On internet explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> uncheck the box that says “use a proxy server”

I take those steps, and everything always works just fine again.

But today, the virus came back, and this time in the middle of the scan, the computer shut itself down.
I then decided to restart the computer in Safe Mode, so I could get rid of the virus. It took much longer to scan than usual, but it quarantined the virus.

But after that, I couldn’t get the Windows firewall OR the internet to work again! Whenever I try to enable the firewall, it tells me “Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service?”

I then click Yes, but this is what happens:

“Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service.”

At this point I decided to try scanning with Malwarebytes, and it apparently picked up the last traces of that virus. I restarted the computer again.

Then, I tried to connect to the firewall again by going to the Control Panel, but it just gives me the same message.

As for the Internet (and as you can see, my WiFi is still working just fine), I tried diagnosing the connection problems, and this is the message I got:

“Windows has detected a problem with the Winsock provider catalog on this computer. This catalog allows programs to communicate with this computer across the network. Would you like Windows to reset the catalog to the default configuration?”

And afterwards, I selected ‘Yes’, and restarted the computer. But neither the firewall nor the internet are connecting at all.

Another thing I noticed: It can’t detect my IP address at all. When I go to Control Panel -> Network Connections -> More Information -> Details, this is what it shows me:

Physical address: 00-13-20-18-1B-83
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway field is blank
DNS server: 192.168.1.254
WINS Server field is blank

It won’t let me repair the connection either. It tells me:
“windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP address”

I’ve even tried unplugging our router, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in to see if it can acquire the IP address. But nothing.

Any ideas as to what’s going on?? And how can we fix it?
Uhh… allow me to reiterate.
I. Can’t. Get. Online. With. My. Computer.

Eh, it won’t matter anyway. I just got confirmation yesterday by calling a bunch of tech people that my computer is officially f*cked up. I’ve backed up everything and I’m ready to use the installation CD to reformat my hard drive. But, now I have a new problem. I can’t even boot up from the CD, because a blue screen comes up telling me to restart the computer in safe mode, but the CD won’t even run in safe mode! :(

My internet stopped working after virus removal?

yesterday, i got a nasty “antivirus soft” virus. luckily, i managed to permanently remove it using windows defender and Malwarebytes anti malware. Unfortunately, my computer will no longer access the internet, it always shows up as an unidentified network. Wired and wireless, the have they same result

I have tried multiple solutions online such as lan options, winsock fix, and different command prompt entries, but none seemed to fix it. Network diagnostics says it cant resolve it either. is there a way i can fix this easily?

I have vista x64

How to tell if ethernet cable is working?

I finished building a new PC, and all the components are fine. However, I’m having trouble getting online. I have a router and modem that I know work, and an ethernet cable running straight between the router and the machine. I suspect it may be the ethernet cable that’s not working. How do I check?

I’m using a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard.

I cant get my ps3 internet working what can i do?

I have a speedstream 5100 modem and a new lynksis router which is supposed to support game consoles.

When i try to find my network on easy it says it cannot find an access point.

When i try to scan for a network on custom it says the same thing

If i try to enter manually it cant find my ip address due to time out.

I use pppoe setting and have WPA personal security settings.

I have never been able to make the internet work on the ps3 and i’m still trying ! :(

Windows Vista Intel Ethernet Card Driver Not Working?

I had a virus that messed up my network adaptors. In device manager all of the following are NOT working properly: Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection, Microsoft ISATAP adapter #4 and #7, Terendo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface, Wan Miniport Ip and IPv6 and L2TP and Network Monitor and PPPOE and PPTP and SSTP. The ethernet light on my modem is off when my pc is on and I was told the virus might have erased my ethernet card driver, which I believe is Intel Por/100 VE Network Connection. I got the driver from someone elses internet and tried to install it and it says cannot install drivers, no intel adapters are present in this computer. How do I get my internet back?

why isn’t my wifi not working?

i had windows 7 but didn’t like it so decided to go back to windows vista. After it was done installing i installed all the necessary drivers and what not…then i tried to turn on my wifi to get online but it wasn’t going through..usually when you click “connect to network” it will give you a list of the different networks and show you how strong the connection is next to it,but there was nothing showing in the box accept “broadband connection pppoe connection”…can someone please walk me into what i am suppose to do? and what i am doing wrong…
how do i set up my internet?
i tried to set up ad hoc but the option isnt there…there are only 4 options and there are suppose to be 5

I even tried repairing the windows folder with the win xp CD and re-installing the service packs. I tried system restore I tried regedit to check if there is anything loded in the startup that isnt suppose to be there and I even tried without anti-virus and with the firewall disabled. all the other PC’s work fine but this one wont. its a sony laptop running XP home. I am just about out of options. has anyone had the same problem? all my programs can access the internet for updates but I cant browse the net, I tried most internet browsers like firefox and opera etc. Please help me. Im going crazy here! Any Idea of whats going on? Oh and I checked the firewall and that’s fine also. I tried winsock repair and it got my email to work again but I still cant browse. it just happed like 2 days ago when I went home it was working and the next day it wouldnt go. the PC is connedted to the internet 24 hours a day and it never gets switched off. could it have come through a windows update? Why does my internet just stop working when I go to one particular website?

So I have Sony Vaio Laptop running XP professional with IE 7, as well as Firefox. Whenever I visit Realtor.com and click on a house my internet conncection is dropped and will not work again without fully rebooting. The wireless connection signal remains strong, and clicking to “repair” the internet conncection does not change anything. Closing and reloading the browser doesn’t work, it just says page cannot be displayed. Oddly, the same thing happens if I browse the site from Firefox as well. I even tried turning off the wireless connection and using an ethernet cable, same thing happens. I tried replacing my winsock files using “winsockxpfix” utility. I have cleared my index.dat files with privacy guardian. The only site I have found that does this is realtor.com I have no idea what to do next and am really annoyed. Any advice?????
