Which way would be better to wire an Xbox 360 for Live?
My roommate and I want to get hooked up to live. I came up with two solutions. One is run a cat5 cable through the wall, under the basement stairs through another wall and into the router. The other way is make wall jacks in both walls running the connection under the stairs and getting two shorter cat5 cables to plug into the wall jacks. My question(s) is which is more doable and cheaper? We are sort of on a budget, but willing to spend some money on this project if we have to.
wire rj25 phone jack using cat5 cable?
I am working on wiring phone jack with a cat 5 cable. I connected the blue and green wires at the base. I tried to connect them to wires 3 & 4 on the RJ25 jack with out any success. Do they have to be certain order blue to 3 etc? Or where on the RJ25 connection pins do I connect?
Thanks. I used both blue and white for one line and the green for the second. I hooked the two green wires to the green and the two blue to the red at the phone base. I am going to try just one wire on each that might be my connection issue
Is Cat5 cable safe to use as speaker wire?
I have a small problem in my house. We have surround sound downstairs, with 2 wires going to each of the speakers, this makes 8 wires going all along the rail at the top of the room. Luckily the dado rail hides them but when they are going up the wall to the rail they look a mess. I was trying to find any type of 8-core speaker cable, and found this stuff doesn’t seem to exist (is it only me that has 5.1 Dolby Surround or something??). We also tried with wireless speakers, we have something in our house that severely interferes with any type of radio, my WiFi constantly disappears, when searching for wires in the wall all the walls are “live”, the only way we can get TV is through satellite, and likewise these speakers were just constantly buzzing and crackling.
I was then putting in some network cable and I came across a really good idea, I thought this cable has got 8 strands in it. I wonder if I could use this for wiring the speakers up. Does anyone know is this possible, and will it be safe, can network cable take about 100w of power without melting? I thought at first maybe using phone cable, but someone has advised against this as it would probably melt, network cable looks a lot more stronger though, is this the case and would it take 400w (100w per speaker)
what kind of wire do i need for my internet connection?
my modem is plugged into the wall and it sends the internet to all the other jacks in my house. the jacks all say cat 5 i think and they look bigger than a regular phone plug. so what kind of wire do i need? is there a difference between cat5 and dsl? i also need it to reach about 15 feet. is that a problem?
Where can I get a telephone cord wire splitter for my ethernet cable wire?
Where can i get a splitter for my ethernet cable wire and another wire? The ethernet wire is for my 360 and to get on live if that helps.
Phone wire distance limitations
What is the practical distance limit for running phone wire from the phone company’s point of entry to handsets? Our new home is almost 2000 feet from the phone box. If that’s too long for ordinary phone wire, will upgrading to direct burial Cat5e or Cat 6 help?
Do I need a permit to run Cat 6 wire?
The company I work for just built a new building and Im running the network wire (Cat6) and I need to know if I need a permit to do it. I figured saying I’m not an outside contractor I shouldn’t and even when I was in school learning how to run wire they never mentioned anything about permits (it was a crappy school though so that might not mean anything lol). This is just the 1st time Ive ever heard needing permits for networking wiring. Any info from a professional would be great.
I live in Connecticut and the New Building is in Connecticut.
Also the contractor who built the building ran all the conduit and cut all the holes in the walls for our wires. So literally all I am doing is running the wire from the network closet to a pipe that runs through the wall to the wall jack and hooking the wires to the wall jacks and patch panel.
How can I connect another computer with Cox using a wire router?
I have a computer that uses a modem and I want to connect another computer in the same house with a wire router. How can I do this? I don’t want to pay for another modem because then Cox will double my monthly payment.
The new computer has an Ethernet port, but apparently won’t work with a wireless router according to the previous owner.
Will AT&T install a new drop line and install a new NID and run Cat5 wire when we get U-verse installed?
I live in a 1960′s built home with old wiring the drop line is in ok condition does have some cracks though. The NID is on a brick wall outside (about to fall off) and is orignal to the house I think. The inside phone line isnt in a very good place I need it to be in my home office (way on the other side of the house) as for the Cat5 I’ve heard they will run i through the attic for up to 3 TV’s and a line to the RG (residential gateway) there is about 10 year old coax and I am sick of looking at it. I am geting U-verse in 3 rooms and the RG will be in the office. Will they do this work for free? and if not how much money am I looking at spending I don’t want to spend a huge amount.

foxhole radio: wire and ground source?
well my first science fair project (i did it this morning) turned out to be a dud. i was seeing if acidity in fruits had an affect on how electricity is conducted. and the light didnt turn on for any of the fruits. plus my mom said i picked a boring project. so now im going to build a foxhole radio. i have all the instructions and i understand it. the only thing im not clear about is the ground source.
what is the ground used for and what are good ground sources?
also, i watched a video and read instructions on how to make the foxhole radio, it mentions a wire connecting to the ground and a wire used for the antenna. the guy used a cat6 wire. i have no idea what that is. what can i use for the wire that i can get for cheap, or from my science teacher that works?

Does the speed on a wireless PCI card faster compared to normal Ethernet Wire plugged into your computer?
I can see that with my Wireless PCI Card, it picks up network file speed 54 MBPS, but on Ethernet Cord, it picks up on 100 MBPS. Which device will give you faster download and upload speed?
What is the Fastest type of Ethernet wire?
I have Quest DSL and a Modem, I want to extend my network,,what are the fastest types of ethernet wire?
How do you wire an ethernet wall jack using std cat5e?
I have a wall jack that I purchased from monoprice.com. I expected the wires to be labeled the same as the cat5 cable I have (green/orange/blue/brown solid and striped). Instead, the wiring on the wall jack is green, red, black, orange, brown, white, blue and yellow.
So, I guess I am wondering what colors go with what?
Here’s an image of the wall plate: http://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/10632.jpg.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Hmmm…can you no longer mark a question as “answered”?
First off, explains why I got these so cheap
I thought I was beating the system. Still, I think my run should be less than 30m, so hopefully I’ll still get 100. Otherwise I wasted 80 cents
I followed the instructions here: http://www.la-cable.com/technical_support.htm and it seemed to work on a short test cable (and Windows reports running at 100). For reference I found this works:
OrangeStripe < --> Blue
OrangeSolid < --> Orange
GreenStripe < --> Black
BlueSolid < --> Red
BlueStripe < --> Green
GreenSolid < --> Yellow
BrownStripe < --> Brown
BrownSolid < --> White (or gray)
(AM I missing something with the “correct answer” choice? I thought that’s how Answers worked, but I don’t seem to see anything about it here…)
Can I hook Up cat5 wire for dsl and Phone?
can you hook up cat5 wire to a NID box? Its a standard box outside that the phone company put in.
Well im trying to run cat5 for both the phone and dsl. Do I need a special box for that or can I just use my old one. And if so how? I know that blue and brown are for the phone and the others for dsl. Blue&white and Brown&white hook up to the green and red in the box. So does the orange and green go to yellow and black? Thanks
Can I wire a Cat5 cable to a RJ45 Wall Plate?
I have a Cat5 ethernet cable running, that comes out a hole in the wall. I bought a Rj45 ethernet wall plate. They both have 8 minicables, but the Cat5e wall plate has Green, Green/White, Blue,Blue/white, Brown, Brown/White, Orange, Orange/white.
The RJ45 wallplate on the back has different colored minicable connectors, Blue, Orange, Black, Red, Green, Yellow, Brown, and white.
The Cat5 cable is for ethernet so can I wire it to the RJ45 wallplate even though the mini wires are different colors?
They are both for ethernet. Can I do this? How would I match the wires.
Thanks.
How to wire CAT5 wallplate(female) one end and other RJ45 jack(male)?
I have GE Network WallPlate connected to one end of the CAT5 and wired as the below screen shot. However, what i would like to know is how to wire the other end of the cable using the RJ45 jack (male) so that i can connect it to a Router?
http://picasaweb.google.ca/Hongly2003/Pictures#5479651993718532930
I tried to wire the RJ35 jack male as follow:
White/Orange
Orange
White/Green
Blue,

However it doesn’t seem to work. But when i connected the GE Network wall plate on each end and used a CAT5 cable to router it works fine.
Can you please give me some ideas how to wire it on the male end?
thanks in advance
