I’m thinking of rewiring my house with Cat6 and adding data ports at every phone jack. No problem, done this type of job a dozen times before. However, I would like to add wi-fi capability so I can sign up with a service.

I’m not real familiar with outdoor antennae. The tower is about 5.5 to 6 miles away with a range of 10 miles. What antenna would you recommend? One coworker suggested a rod or panel type with 19dBi gain. Is there a particular manufacturer or specific model that seems to work well?

I have my wireless router all set up with WPA2 security and MAC filtering. But when I scan the wifi’s in my surrounding area, an unprotected network is ALSO detected and I can connect to it and use it. And it works fine unless I turn off my router, which led me to believe that it is being broadcast from MY router! Help!

Ive seen videos on youtube that show how to connect a 360 to internet with a laptop. I was just wondering if you could connect an ethernet cable to the wifi enabled ps3 and get a connection.

If my laptop is connected to the internet through wifi, and I plug in the ethernet cable, which of these will happen:

A. The laptop will remain using Wifi as the connection
B. The laptop will change to using cable as the connection
C. The laptop will use both Wifi and cable, making the internet connection even stronger
D. The two connections will cause conflicts, making the internet connection slower

My router is located at point A roughly 15 feet from the wall of which on the other side resides my tv/xbox 360 setup. How do I go about using my router’s wifi to another wifi device to direct connect via ethernet cat5? Can’t I just buy another router and use my FIOS router’s wifi to have internet connectivity to my XBOX 360?

alright, si i have ds and want to connect to the internet, so i follow tutorials and find out about getting ip addresses from run/cmd/ipconfig
what i got was:
IP adress: 10.1.1.3
subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
default gateway: 10.1.1.1
dns servers: 10.1.1.1

and i filled that in, but that didn’t work, so i went onto web and typed in my ip address – 10.1.1.1, and checked my status. there are 2 caegories, lan and wan
all that is under lan is mac address, ip address, subnet mask, DHCP server and NAT. ip address is 10.1.1.1 and subnet mask is 255.0.0.0

under WAN is alot of fancy digits –
Virtual Circuit Pvc0 Pvc1 Pvc2 Pvc3 Pvc4 Pvc5 Pvc6 Pvc7
Status Connected
Connection Type pppoe
IP Address 60.242.22.248

This is what i have:
1. Macbook with airport extreme card.
2. Internet Connection: DSL, DSL modem (to connect to the internet i have to do it by PPPoe. Which is using a username and password)
3. Netgear wireless router (Model:WPN824 v2) – but i dont have the CD install software for install. I bought the router off ebay.

How can i set up a wifi network with this? What ethernet cables go where? Can i find the software for install online and download it?

Im a little slow when it comes to things like this so if you could help me a step by step layout would be most helpful.

It’s an Atheros AR9285 WiFi Adapter, do I get it’s IP address and type that in the browser? because either I have the wrong IP address or it’s just not responding properly?? 10.0.1.1 is it’s IP correct? does that IP conflict with my Ethernet Adapters IP of 10.1.1.1? see below:
