I made a male/female cable using 568-B on the male end and -A on the female end it still did not work. I installed new female ends and it still does not work…

I think the parallel port on a PC can detect a voltage above 1.8 volts. If you connect a 5v output pin through a length of ethernet cable, through a switch then back to an input pin, how long can the ethernet cable be before the computer fails to detect the pushed button?
