Hello, just so you know, I only have slight knowledge with programming (majority with VB 6.0) I am doing a project involving just making a simple chat program between two computers, I have looked up all tutorials and they all include using the VB 6.0 winsock, yet i don’t own this program, and it seems to have been completely wiped off the map.

I have downloaded Visual basic 2005 2008 and 2010 and have found that none of them have the Winsock, nor are there any tutorials.

Is there anyone that can give me a straight rundown on how to make a simple program like this, a link to a tutorial that can help me do this without VB 6.0, or can someone give me a link to a download for VB 6.0 cause i can’t find a working one anywhere.

Im trying to make a client / server chat program with visual basic 2008 express edition but it seems that everyone is stuck in the past using visual basic 6.

I cant utilize the winsock component and im not getting visual basic 6 so dont bother telling me to, anyway im trying to figure out the 2008 commands to create and send chat messages using the server. I found a good tutorial at

but its for visual basic 6 and i tried VB 6 but it doesnt show the winsock component and i cant seem to add it through the components part, again im not going to use VB 6.

anyway i want the server to listen on a port and accept connections same thing as in the tutorial i just need the VB 2008 version codes.

Dont bother replying with anything stupid or redundant like your having the same problem just help me get the answers

How can i add a socket or winsock component in Visual studio 2008….as i have added the reference but they do now show in toolbox help plz

Can anyone help about using VB 6.0 for my messenger program. I’m using a timer control to refresh my ADODB connection to MySQL Database everytime a new message is encountered. Does VB 6.0 have anything else than ADODB to connect to the web (exept winsock) to enable AJAX technique to make a dynamic messenger? The Program works but the real problem is, It Hangs Up and I struggles for time to type a message!
Actually, the Messenger is only a part of the whole program, there’s no reason to convert the application into a browser page

I have built a simple chatroom client and sever using VB and Microsoft Winsock Control 6.0. The server runs well on my computer and another’s, but will not run on another friend’s computer with a faster internet speed. It cannot connect is the error. It is designed to try to connect three times, yet I with a slower connection can run it.

Help would be great, and if you have no idea, mention this to others you know. Maybe I’m missing somthing obvious. Thank you all, 10 points up for graps.

The free Express version doesn’t include windows.h and winsock.h. Are they included in the “real” Visual Studio Professional?

we have a project in school, making a “LAN Chat” Program out of visual basic 6… the Program is splitted into two (SERVER and CLIENT)… i used WInsock 6 connecting with IP, Port and other stuff…
When i run both the program (client and server) on a same computer works just fine.. even multiple clients 6+ Clients but on the same computer… but when i try to run it on separate computers it doesnt work… it says Error: Connection is forcefully Rejected. i need help pls…

En este video vas a ver como se crea un simple comando en VB6, en este caso uno que envia un mensaje al presionar un boton llamado “Echeniqueitor”, es muy facil. Espero que ningun lammer copie este video para subirlo como si fuera suyo. ACTUALIZACION: En el video a los 1:03 min Cuando se escribe la linea ” MsgBox “Aca el mensaje que queres que aparesca”, vbInformation… ” el “vbInformation lo pueden reemplazar por el tipo de mensaje que le quieran poner, puede ser tambien vbCritical para que salga un mensaje de error, te quedaria asi la linea: MsgBox “Mensajito”, vbCritical, “Titulo” O puede ser con vbExclamation o cualquier otra opcion que se te ocurra.
