I had a virus that messed up my network adaptors. In device manager all of the following are NOT working properly: Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection, Microsoft ISATAP adapter #4 and #7, Terendo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface, Wan Miniport Ip and IPv6 and L2TP and Network Monitor and PPPOE and PPTP and SSTP. The ethernet light on my modem is off when my pc is on and I was told the virus might have erased my ethernet card driver, which I believe is Intel Por/100 VE Network Connection. I got the driver from someone elses internet and tried to install it and it says cannot install drivers, no intel adapters are present in this computer. How do I get my internet back?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1420 like 5 months ago.I have had a problem since the last 2-4 weeks…After one hour of use my wireless conection goes “limited” and im literaly in the same room with router and modem…this doesnt happen to my sister/dad and it happens both on my moms house and on my dads..even on my cousin’s….I tried restarting Winsock…unistaling wireless adapter then instaling again (i didnt touch the drivers i just unistaled the adapter via device mngr…btw if i plug in directly from modem it works perfect..plz answer something thatl work cuz ive tried 10000 things and searched on google and no answer has worked..thanks on advanced

My computer (Windows Vista Basic) can no longer connect to the Internet! It CAN connect to a router, but the access is “local only” no matter what. I have had Vista for a long time and have always been able to Web surf. Whenever I have had this problem in the past, I could fix it by restarting, rebooting or clicking “diagnose” on the connection and repairing the WLAN. (It’s a laptop.) The router is NOT the problem. The same thing happens on all connections and other computers work just fine.

I have tried “netsh winsock reset” and a few other variations of that on the Command Prompt. It didn’t work. I tried these with reccomended combinations of restarting and rebooting. Nothing happened. I have deleted processes in the Task Manager. It made my computer a little faster, but my Internet remains dead.

I even disabled my ipv6 or whatever and swithing to ipv4 or whatever they’re called but that didn’t work.

I also tried disabled and re-enabling Wireless Network Connection, but that didn’t work. I tried this with an additional reboot in between these steps as reccomended, but that didn’t work either…

I’m on the verge of simply reinstalling Windows (which means blowing over a hundred dollars and losing most of my data), but before I resort to that, is there something missing that I haven’t tried, some simple solution I’m overlooking?

(Please don’t reccomend any software. I can’t download them, remember?)

(PS): On an unrelated note, I have a num lock problem. No matter how many times I turn it off when the com is on, it is on whenever I start the computer. How do I fix that?)

Alrightly then, folks. Time for another round of “What the @)#()#@ is wrong with my computer?!”

After coming back from my friend’s house and repairing my computer once I come home to this lovely problem.

What it does:
I can and have no problems connecting to my home network, yet get “Unidentified Network” and “Local Access” once connected. Now, I’ve spent about three days trying to fix this via forum solutions that obviously did me no good. Help would be wonderful, thank you.

What I’ve done to no avail:
>Deleted Norton
>Automatically reset IP
>Reset winsock
>Installed a protocol on Internet Protocol Version 6
>Disabled/enabled IPv4 and IPv6 and the network
>Multiable system restores

If anyone has any suggestion and/or fix that doesn’t require me to wipe and reinstall my OS, please, please leave an answer below. I am running out of options and would really like to not have to resort to my outdated-by-twenty-years desktop…. which I am using right now. Quite amazed it still works.

I have a windows vista laptop. Before I connected it to my xbox and xbox live was working fine. I tried it again and it has a problem with the ip adress it says “Another device on your network is using the ip address that the dhcp server assigned to you console” IM begging anyone to help me. Ill take any help i can get PLEASE.

I got this f***ing error when I launched the demo of Prey. I have a 128 mb ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 and a AMD 64 Athlon X2 1.70 GHZ. My processor is 1.70 GHZ but it is a duel core processor so I want play Single core 2.0 GHZ games. I got this stupid error when I launched it:

I updated DirectX and I even uninstalled my video card drivers then reinstalled itbut it still doesn’t work!!!!!

Situation: Stuck 169. IP on a Vista laptop in a collage dorm. Other computers grab a valid 10. IP right away when connected to her port.

Don’t know if it is related or not but her NIC was flapping. It was connecting then not connetin rapidly. I fixed this by setting the speed of the NIC to 10 full or half duplex.

I tried the standard /release /renew and that doesn’t work. Also tried to reset the winsock and the IP stack, still no go. Any ideas?
Well I think a permanent static IP is out as it will eventually cause IP conflicts with the 800 or so other students which means me trying to get the IT department to flush the IP cache from the router which is extremely unlikely to happen. I will try swapping the cable tomarrow..er later today.
It is sending packets out but not receiving any. And yes the NIC is set to DHCP. I think that is what you were talking about when you mentioned the radio buttons.
The device under the Hardware Manager checks out compleatly. Windows help is anything but that. I found they barely cover the basics, of which I have already tried. The port is good also as any other laptop can get a good IP right away as I think I already stated. Thanks for the replys though.
I’ll see if I havae a spare hub lying around and try that. They are not allowed in the Dorm rooms so even if it works, it won’t be permanent. But at least it will work.

Hello. I have a unique problem. I have a Windows Vista home premium system that can ping to my gateway and other systems on the local network but can not ping beyond my gateway and can not browse the internet. I have other systems on network that see Internet and browse with not problem. When I do an IPCONFIG, I see no DNS listed but do see my gateway IP and IP address and submask. I have two internet connections (one wired and one wireless) and both are doing the same thing. I ran a WINSOCK Fix from Microsoft but no success. I also disabled IPV6 but no luck either. Any ideas?

My girlfriend’s Toshiba laptop has WIndows Vista Home Premium.
She turned it on yesterday and a driver install thing randomly popped up.
She didn’t know what it was and neither did I so she hit NO when it said to install.
After that she was no longer able to connect to the internet.

When you hover over the wireless icon it says “Connection status: unknown The Dependency service or group failed to start.

I have tried numerous fixes and none have worked.

Under the NETWORK ADAPTERS in the device manager all have the triangle/exclamation mark.
When I right click and hit properties it says “This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).

When I go to Computer Management and Services I right click DCHP client and it says
“Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer”
Error 1079 the account specified for this service is different form the account specified for the other services running in the same process.

When I try to start Network Location Awareness.
It says Windows could not sart the Network Location Awareness on Local Computer.
Specific error code 1073741288.

I’ve tried the “netsh winsock reset catalog” fix in command prompt run as administrator and reset.
This still did not fix the problem.

I thought it might be a firewall problem however when I try to change any firewall settings it says that Windows Cannot Start Firewall Service.

She is the administrator on the laptop.

We don’t have the disk the laptop came with and might not for a week or so.
Does ANYONE know how to fix this?

I just connect a d-link router and my ips do not match or come close to matching to connect the the internet server. then i noticed my laptop does not have the dhcp enable on the wifi.

My netwrok between this two work nice except ics.
what should i do on computer xp(have PPPOE internet access)
that the vista on other machine can have a access to the internet.
i have two computer with one cable.

Vista recognizes my wireless network, and says i’m connected. but whenever i open any app that uses the internet other than firefox, it prompts me to connect to a PPPoE network through a miniport. i put in the correct PPPoE address, but it cannot connect. I am using a belkin wireless network USB reciever, and can use the internet, just with firefox, but no other apps. is there a way to make it connect to the 2WIRE router other than trying to go thru the miniport? any feedback will be appreciated
