This Video will helps you to setup your Windows Vista computer to obtain an IP address automatically from your modem/router.

Windows Vista Network speed?

I am running Vista SP1. All I get out of the network transfer speeds from a NAS and a XP machine are 4 meg a second. I have a wrt54g router and everything is basically setup as 100 meg. The cables have all been verified and are cat6. The speeds between the NAS and the XP machine are decent but 4 meg is just to slow to transfer off this Vista machine.

What does everyone think? Any ideas? Whats the average network speeds on a 100 meg network anyway?

INSTALL MSWINSCK.OCX FILE ON VISTA!!!

How to install andregister MSWINSCK.OCX on Windows Vista! The first thing we have to do is to download the MSWINSCK file. go here www.afreeocx.com and download. When downloaded, put the MSWINSCK file in your C:\windows\system32 directory REMEMBER: DO NOT OPEN THE MSWINSCK FILE! When you have put the mswinsck file in your system32 directory open start menu and in the search box write cmd just wait until the command prompt comes up. When it comes up, RIGHT CLICK on it and choose “Run as administrator” Now, get to the system32 directory, to go back: cd\ to see the files and maps in the directory you are in: DIR to open a map: cd MAPNAME for example if it opens in the C:\ directory you can type CD WINDOWS and after that CD SYSTEM32 when your in the system32 directory write regsvr32 MSWINSCK.OCX Then a Message box will pop up and say that the MSWINSCK file was successfully installed. ! : If you’re running Vista64, put the .ocx file into your SysWOW64 directory under windows instead of System32. FAQ: Q: What is the MSWINSCK.OCX file ? A: Its a file you may need for many “old” programs, programs that is made for Windows XP. When you buy a XP the MSWINSCK file is installed. But on Vista its not. When i got Vista i had meny programs that didnt work because the MSWINSCK file was missing. Before i changed to Vista i had my own Habbo Retro Hotel. If the Retro hotell shall work the server needs to be started. On Vista it was impossible to start the server, coz the mswinsck file was

Getting 169.254.x.x ip for wired and wireless on Vista with no internet connectivity?

My laptop was working fine (connecting to internet via both wired and wireless) till I suddenly got the infamous :”blue screen” (didn’t note the error though :( ). The system restarted on its own and from then on I’d been getting 169.254.x.x ip address and not able to connect to internet (tried wired as well). This would mean that I’m not getting an ip from the DHCP server of my wireless router or my laptop is in a mess. All other laptops connected to the router were working fine.

I tried everything that’s posted on the net – tried static ip, netsh, disabled firewall and anti-virus, etc. Nothing worked.

The only thing that worked after a 10hr struggle was system restore. Imagine if i hadn’t enabled system restore – i would be terrible state.

What could have possibly gone wrong? Did the tcpip stack get corrupted for some reason or did Vista just had enough and decided not to connect?

Any help is appreciated.

Vista connections limit?

I used Vista tcpip.sys and UAC Auto Patcher v2.2 from http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/02/17/download-vista-tcpipsys-and-uac-auto-patcher-to-increase-tcp-connection-limit/…. and set the connection limit to 50,000 in the registry editor and I am still getting the 4226 error in the event viewer whenever I search for music in Soulseek.

I was wondering what I should do to keep this from happening. Should I increase the limit more or try to reapply the patch or something?

*My modem isn’t anywhere near my router*

Where are the DHCP settings on a vista computer?

I am connected to the internet but with limited connectivity. Everything seems to lead back to the DHCP. It will not let me reset it when it gives me the option. Thanks :)
Ok.. So I did what you both said. And I’m still not getting internet. Just limited connectivity…. What else can I do?
All it says it Windows Ip configured. Thats all.
