I have two Vista PC’s on a wired network. When I transfer files between the two I only get around 10MB/sec for speed. Remote differential compression is disabled on both. Same result when using a CAT5e patch cable to directly connect them. Is this normal or should it be faster?
There is no anti-virus software installed on either machine.

I just got a new laptop which is running windows vista and I am trying to transfer all of my music and pictures from my old desktop which has XP. I don’t have a monitor for the desktop so I am wondering if there is a way to transfer the data through usb, and if not, is there a way to transfer through CAT5

Connecting both computers to an ethernet DSL router gives me a local area network (LAN). I want to transfer files from the old Windows 98 SE computer to the new Windows XP computer. Does anyone know of a freeware program that will do this in a straightforward manner? Are there any special considerations?

I do not have a firewire port so my options are either a USB to USB cable or an ethernet cable. I am unsure which ethernet cable i would need or which would be best. I am using Vista and need an easy way to transfer files to another PC without using a wireless network or a USB memory stick ect. Please advise.

According to my netbook, my wireless network connection is 54.0 Mbps and on online speed tests, I have ~8000 kbps download and ~1000 kbps. Can anyone explain the difference between these two numbers?

I tried using the router in my cousin’s place to transfer files using a wired lan connection and the transfer rate is 98Mbps. but when i tried using a cat5 crossover calbe, the transfer rate is just 40Mbps. how do i maximise the full potential of the cat5 crossover cable ? or is this the limit for this network connection ?

I already have an ethernet cable and for what i need to do requires a transfer cable. Is there any real difference?
