so we recently got the time warner bundle and they gave us a arris touchstone telephony modem tm602g which apparently has no wireless capability. Ive looked into connecting an actual router to the modem but that requires two ethernet cables connected into the modem, the actual modem only has ONE ethernet input, so that wont work. My question is: is there a router we can buy that will still support the phone?

what is the difference between cat5 cable & cat6 cable for networking? which one should we prefer?

I live in the country and have line of sight high speed internet (PPPoE) I have an airport extreme router and my mac will hook up the the internet at anytime. However it took me about 6 weeks to get my PC to hook up to the internet. I can link them and it always recognizes the wireless network in my house but sometimes it wont hook up to the internet.
I got it going on the internet by finding IP range on my router. Then I went to TCP/IP settings and filled in the blanks and put in an IP address and tested the internet. If it didn’t work I would use an IP with the next number up until I found one that works. My mac has a static IP and obviously since I manually entered the IP on my PC it’s IP is static as well.
I’ve tried changing the modes on my router etc. and my ISP can’t seem to find out why it only hooks up half the time either. Any ideas? Sorry if this sounds kind of weird. I’m not really at techno geek!

i want to stop using it it and start using dial up connection. the problem is how can i get my ip back the one which i was using before DSL? pllz help i m desperate to know this

so i need to have a static ip on my home network for port forwarding….so i setup the tcp/ip to do so, and it worked great.

then i got to school, and it wouldn’t connect…i realized it was the static ip, so i changed the tcp/ip config to “obtain ip address automatically”….and it works

whats lame is that in the tcp/ip config, there are radio buttons for the dynamic and static…lets say you put values in the static, then click the radio button for the dynamic, even though the static is disabled, it deletes all the values for the static.

so i get to school, disable the static…then when i get home, i have to manually re-enter the ip, mask, gateway and dns servers….this is a pain, and should not be….

is there anyway to have both these configs setup to work without manually re-entering the static info every time i get home?

can it be done with multiple profiles? i have a dell insprion E1505 laptop, which uses intel PROSet/wireless to connect to both my home and school
FYI, i have not played around with different profiles and setting, because i just have not had the time, and can’t afford to waste time fiddling around. What better way to save time then to ask an expert who has had success.

anytime im connected with someone, they can connect with me but i cant connect with them. I checked all my preferences and i have no firewall so i dont get it? If i try to put a large picture onto the aim box the program closes on me. Ive removed AIM from the computer, then reinstalled it and it stil doesnt work. Ive tried using different versions still doesnt work.

It’s not my internet because when I lived at my dorm i was connected through a t3 connection and it still did that. Im on wireless now and i still get the problem.

anyone know what to do?

Okay well i’m getting ADSL soon and i was wondering whether using this stops you from using the phone at the same time as it connects to the phone line.

Just bought apple time capsule. Works fine with my macs. It’s connected to my existing wireless router via ethernet. I used the DHCP option when installing time capsule. My windows vista system “sees” my old existing wireless router, but not the time capsule. Any ideas. (Besides uninstalling vista)

Arrived home to the g/f saying that she had “broken the internet” …. “sh1t” I thought, if she has managed to do that (did not put it past her), there is going to be a lot of angry people out there …. !!!

Unbeknown to me, my anti-virus software (ES ET Smart Security) was 19 days out of date ….. no reminders, nice.

Anyway, downloaded on my PC, transferred via usb pen drive and installed various new anti-virus & spyware softwares (AVG Free 8.5, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware) some which found nothing (?!) some which cleaned out / quarantined ‘a lot’ (unsure if I still have the logs).

Problem before was that couldn’t do anything without warnings (from ES ET Smart Security) popping up about the viruses and IE opening and trying to go to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org.

Seems like I have cleaned up the laptop now but cannot connect to any site (yahoo, facebook) without the HTTP Error 404. ‘Interestingly’ the auto navigate attempts to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org didn’t bring back any content either.

Emptied the browsing history & temp internet files, tried installing Firefox, have checked for updates to the A-V / Spy S/W and re-run scans ….. in desperation, tried ‘netsh Winsock reset’ in a CMD from advice here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350/en-us ….. ooops, I now see I am actually on Win XP 2009 SP3 …..

Any suggestions (apart from staying off p0rn sites (I have not visited any p0rn sites (on that computer!)!)!) before I start taking random, drastic actions trying to guess my way through it?

When I log on, I can access the Internet; however, whenever anyone else tries to log into my Internet, everyone gets kicked off and/or the Internet access says Local only. What is happening? I have the wireless set up to say “Connection Type: Automatic Configuration – DHCP .” My Internet provider is Comcast. HELP!

I have a Linksys wr54g V.8 router. i have installed the dd-wrt firmware. When i download or play an online game i cant be on for more than 1min or else i loose connection! ( but i can still browse?) the ps2 online does the same… even if i put in like “1000sec” in the box for client release time it messes up…

router: set to dhcp ( pppoe would not work )

i have an internet connection without a home router.it’s a PPPoE kind of connection.when i put the cable in my ps3 and when i put the PPPoE username and password and after i do all the other settings things the ps3 put to me then the username or password is incorrect.I’m sure that i putted the right username and password but the ps3 keep putting to me:”wrong username or password.plz try again”
