Ok so I just bought an old 2 story house with an extremely small crawl space that does not have any telephone, cable, or Ethernet ran in it. I would like for my 3 bed rooms, the living room, the dining room, and possibly the kitchen to have a combination of Internet access and TV.

I already tried wireless but because of the old power wires and the materials in the walls, reception is very poor unless I’m in closet with the router.

I accept the fact that I need to run cables in the house however, I do not want to run both CAT6 and Coax. My current plan is to run 3 Ethernet cables per junction box per room. One for internet, one for TV, one for home audio control/MISC.

My Question: What are my options of running TV through Ethernet cabling? I want to avoid expensive bridging systems if possible!

i just bought a 100 ft cat6 ethernet cable so i could connect my computer with my xbox 360. BUT i dont know how to get it from one room to the other. can you tell me how to run the cabe from one room to the other….please and thanx…

I recently bought a set of SMC Gigabit NIC and installed into both of my PC. Both PC are running Windows XP and the latest NIC driver. The cable is Cat6 and that SMC card support auto cross-cable.

Here is the problem I facing:
- When using 1Gbps speed, i copy a file from one to another. After that, i failed to use that file because of corrupted.
- I tried change the speed to 100Mbps and copy the same file again and it works.

So i decided to check on the files I copied. I wrote a program using VB that compare both files byte to byte. And i get difference in around 100MB. (The file was 400MB)
I would like to know is there any problem with Windows XP using gigabit ethernet? or is there any other cause?

Forgot to mentioned. I am using P2P. So, no switch or hub used.

I have a number of computers on my network. One of them is a server that is connected via a gigabit ethernet hub to two other computers. All the rest of my computers access my main (internet enabled) network wirelessly. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to connect the two networks so that the server can be internet enabled without needing to run cat6 cable throughout my house. Since i have a ethernet hub, i gave the ethernet cards on those computers static ips (192.168.0.x) while the wireless network uses dhcp to assign ips (192.168.1.x) The ethernet works fine for file transfers, and the wireless network works fine, now i want to connect them so that the server can access the internet. Thanks for any help or ideas!

I have no clue as to what to do or what is the server that its asking about. Im just trying to set up a new account.

Ii have o2 broadband and i am connecting through a wired connection, unable to negoiate a lease with DHCP server…what do i do now?? i got it connected before then it neva got connected again! im totally lost and pissed that its not working….i need help asap! PLEEASE!!

I cant seem to find a definitive answer for this and its frustrating as hell! What cable would you use to connect a T1 card to a {CSU/DSU/Multiplexer/router}? I have seen diagrams where it describes an RJ-48S cable for this. More specifically I guess I want to know if you can use 568b/RJ45 standard straight through cable or is there one specifically for this type of connection. Please, only people who KNOW what they are talking about respond. no offense! I have scoured resources everywhere to try to figure this out, someone help me…please!
Ok, so essentially it depends on the vendor? I have seen where Cisco specified an RJ-45 straight through cable for their equipment. thanks guys, I guess I’ll just have to read the documentation that comes with the equip.

I have a PC w/o a wireless card and I want use the PC w/wireless to transmit to the second PC. This way, I can have access at both.

VirginMedia cable broadband service gave me cable router that is currently only connectable straight to desktop computer. I want to connect it to my belkin wireless router so that i can also get internet wirelessly to my laptop. Have tried connecting ethernet cable from cable box to port on router labelled “DSL line” but this doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas please?
