Will using a Gigabit Switch be slower than using Multiple Cat6 Cables Directly from the Router?

I have four devices about 50 feet from my gigabit router that I want to connect. I am trying to figure out the best way to do it. Should I run four cat6 cables from my router the 50 feet to my devices or should I run one cat6 cable the 50 feet to a gigabit switch and from there plug in my four devices?

Would the gigabit switch be comparatively slower or will the speeds be the same based only on how many devices are hooked up to the router itself?
The perceived benefit of using a switch is that I would be able to hook up 4 more devices that I would normally be able to and I would only have to run one cat6 cable 50 feet, rather than four.

How do multi color (More than 3 color) LEDs work?

Haha, as a computer science/engineering student, I’m just curious, I know that a bi-color LED works by switching the direction of the current through the LED. However, I hear of products that use LEDs of multiple (3 or more) colors…how is that done? The only method I know of getting that to work would be to use a ton of bright, yet tiny LEDs and hook them up to a multiplexer that has the proper number of “selector inputs” for the outputs (that always has an signal input of 1 if one wants one of the LEDs to be lit)–I’m betting that’s not how it’s done though. So, how is it done?
I mean a logic 1 voltage, or the required voltage to run the LED.

Do you need more than one phone line to make multiple phone calls at the same time if you have a pbx?

So…why is T1/T3 better than just regular broadband?

So, I always hear people talking about how much faster T1 and T3 are than all other internet connections, and I’ve always believed it. I also recently moved to live in college, and the internet here is T1. My download speed has increased by about 15 times (files that used to take about 15 minutes to download, now take 1 minute, files that used to take about 20 minutes now take about a minute and a half). But I was just reading a book, and it says T1 speed is only 1.5 Mbps, and T3 45 Mbps. That’s not that fast, at my house I had 10 Mbps with regular broadband, but yet the download speed has drastically increased. And that same ISP’s fastest internet is 40 Mbps, only 5 Mbps slower than T3. So my question is: I don’t get it, why are T1 and T3 better?

Home network-upload speed over ten times faster than download speed?

I have a homemade RAID backup server that I consistently upload my files to. Today, I tried to download from it, and it’s pathetically slow.

Computer: Intel Mac Mini w/ OS X 10.4, 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet card, using Airport for Internet connection

Server: old 1 GHz Athlon PC w/ FreeNAS, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet card

They are directly connected using a patch cable (no hub or router). The upload speed to the server maxes out at ~9 megabytes per second (that’s bytes, not bits), while the download speed maxes out at ~90 kilobytes per second.

Any ideas where I should start looking? Your input is most appreciated!

DSL Modem is faster than what Verizon claims?

Im pretty much retarded when it comes to technical terms involving the internet or computers, so I’m going to ask this as simple and basic as possible.

I have a wireless router through Verizon and supposedly they have plans from 768kpbs to 3mpbs. I believe I’m on the lower of the two. However, when i plug a CAT6 cable from the router to the first computer , it says it is operating at 100mpbs, then the other is on a Belkin wireless link, operating steadily at 54mpbs. How is this so? what is the TRUE speed and if I were to go to the 3mpbs plan from Verizon , would it increase all the other computers?

Anyone with a good answer would be much appreciated because I am clueless
