I just got an Xbox 360 and need to connect it to the internet. Instead of getting a 50′ CAT5e network cable I thought about connecting an additional modem in the living room since we have several old ones laying around. Since each individual modem has separate IP addresses, would I get charged extra for it with AT&T?
Also, do I need a computer at the modem for it to work? The modem would only be connected to the 360 in the living room.

I know CAT 6 is supposed to be for “faster” connections, but my main question is, are the connectors the same? I’m using a CAT5 and want to get a longer cable for cheap, and can, but it’s CAT 6. Are the end connectors the same?

ive currently still got virgin media and its a peice of crap, so ive decided to upgrade to either get cable or adsl 2. so, which one out of the 2 is more faster and reliable, reliable meaning doesnt disconnect and keeps the same speed throughout what you’re doing.

ill be getting either one of them via a router/modem and be using the internet for broswing the internet (google) and online ps3 gaming.

im trying to get xbox live and i measured where i need to get the cable and its just barely more than 100 feet. is there any certain store or place online that has cables longer than 100 feet. all the place around where i live only have the 100s. Will a longer cord make it any slower? is there any way to connect 2 ethernet cords together?

We have a Telstra landline broadband and it keeps on dropping on us. We have been advised to have a satallite broadband is it better than a landline?

I have heard of people trying the exam for three years before they pass CCIE!

My house was built pre-wired with cat6 cable for all the rooms. There is a box in the down stairs closet that has all the blue cat6 cables coming in to it labeled with all the rooms on it (example L1-A, stands for Level 1 room A) So anyway, I put this terrible diagram together in illustrator in a hurry to see if it would work. I have an 8 port Dlink switch and a Linksys wireless router. I want to keep wireless for convenience but I also want hard wired for speed when I need it, and desktops. So will that work?

Please, no negative comments on how horrible the diagram is.

I can only get a speed of 6.2mbps broadband in my area,will a Wi Fi router improve that connection or only transmit up to 6.2mbps?

I have two Vista PC’s on a wired network. When I transfer files between the two I only get around 10MB/sec for speed. Remote differential compression is disabled on both. Same result when using a CAT5e patch cable to directly connect them. Is this normal or should it be faster?
There is no anti-virus software installed on either machine.

I just got my xbox 360 elite. It came with a ethernet cable and we bought the wireless adapter. My brother and my mom were having a huge deal over connecting with the wireless adapter. I wanna know if it will be easier with the ethernet cable. If not, then go through the steps of using an ethernet cable to connect with xbox live. Any feedback would be helpful.
