I finished building a new PC, and all the components are fine. However, I’m having trouble getting online. I have a router and modem that I know work, and an ethernet cable running straight between the router and the machine. I suspect it may be the ethernet cable that’s not working. How do I check?

I’m using a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard.

I am helping an office with a cable refit (they don’t want to spend heaps) and they have a collection of marked and un-marked patch cables (0.5-10m length). Is there any way to tell if the unmarked cables are cat 5, 5e or 6?

Otherwise I’ll assume they’re 5 and throw them out.

Im using cable broadband, and i have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router attatched to it. I want to upgrade to 20mb broadband but will my router support that? Not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but im supposed to be on 2mb just now and i only get 1, so i wasnt sure if its my routers fault or not?

I have a 8mbps internet connection according to my isp (pccw in HK). It’s a PPPoE broadband unlimited connection, but it is extremely slow. I’m paying for for the 8mbps, but I can’t actually see where this speed comes from. Whenever I connect it says I have 100mbps, which can’t be right, as it’s sooooo slow.
