I am upgrading to gigabit ethernet on my home network, which requires Cat5e or Cat6 cables to get the highest speeds.

I have a ton of cables. Some are marked with category in ink on the side, some are not. Some are old, some are not. Some are short, and some are not. On a 10Mbit network, I never cared which is which.

Is there any way to know which of my cables are the “best”, since cable quality suddenly makes a difference. I also assume that there is some quality variance within a category (I.E. one Cat5e cable may be better than another).

I have 2 LinkSys G routers. Can someone tell me how to connect these 2 wirelessly? I can’t run Cat5 between them. I would like to have one just work like a bridge so that I can plug ethernet cables to some PCs that don’t have wireless and have the other router that is connected to the internet work as the DHCP. Someone told me that this can be done but I can’t find any instuctions on how to do it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Do i need to use Switch or Hub ,if yes then how can i connect and with cat5 cable or cat 6.

My company hosts 20-30 web sites and we currently have SDSL service 768K Down/768K Up about 179/month. We can get ADSL service of 4M Down/768K Up for about 99/month with static IPs.

But I have heard with ADSL vs. SDSL there are inherent differences in the technical architecture and you cannot just think about the speeds that are quoted. Even if the speeds quoted were the same, SDSL would either be faster or more reliable than ADSL?

Any comments on ADSL vs. SDSL related to:
1) communication infrastructure (protocols, equipment, etc)
2) impact of other ‘neighborhood users’ on my speed
3) reliability
4) other

I have tried the Cat5e R7J604 cord on the wall and on a DSL/Phone line splitter. Both cords I have are too big for the jack.

Okay I need to know if I have Broadband internet for a new router I want to buy and for xbox live. I have charter high speed internet not dialup. I can be on the phone and internet at the same time. I also have Mozilla Firefox. If u could tell me if I have broadband internet or how to tell if I do have it that would be awesome.

I have heard there is something available for ppl who can’t get regular dsl called adsl? Can anyone tell me about it? What does it cost, what type of equipment do you need, what kind of installation is required, etc??? I’d appreciate the info. Dial-up sucks.

All I know is that 1000BASE-T breaks down into 1000=speed in Mbps. Base= baseband signaling. T=uses twisted pair cable. Am i right? Now, what is the difference between 1000Base-t and T1. I also know that T1 runs at 1.544Mbps(what is the actual number without the dot?).Now which is faster???
