can i setup my comp to have a static IP at home & dynamic at school w/out changing the TCPIP config each time?

so i need to have a static ip on my home network for port forwarding….so i setup the tcp/ip to do so, and it worked great.

then i got to school, and it wouldn’t connect…i realized it was the static ip, so i changed the tcp/ip config to “obtain ip address automatically”….and it works

whats lame is that in the tcp/ip config, there are radio buttons for the dynamic and static…lets say you put values in the static, then click the radio button for the dynamic, even though the static is disabled, it deletes all the values for the static.

so i get to school, disable the static…then when i get home, i have to manually re-enter the ip, mask, gateway and dns servers….this is a pain, and should not be….

is there anyway to have both these configs setup to work without manually re-entering the static info every time i get home?

can it be done with multiple profiles? i have a dell insprion E1505 laptop, which uses intel PROSet/wireless to connect to both my home and school
FYI, i have not played around with different profiles and setting, because i just have not had the time, and can’t afford to waste time fiddling around. What better way to save time then to ask an expert who has had success.

Thanks

i am still working on cleaning the computer and understand that some of the malware in it may still be causing the problem. pretty sure there are a few viruses fighting me. once the computer is clean, i dont know where to look to fix the tcp/ip. i am getting acrah course on the network connections i guess..

Is there a fix for Windows XP TCP/IP limit of 10 maximum connections: i.e. can there be more than 10 clients?

I am using Windows XP professional and I have a network of 12 computers. I’m using one computer essentially as the “server” for a MSSQL database with other computers on the network accessing the data from it.

Any computer past the initial 10 computers that tries to access a program (that uses the MSSQL database in question) gets rejected, bounced, with the error message:

“\\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections that the computer can accept.”

I have already looked at this supposed patch: http://www.lvllord.de/ (Update of TCPIP.SYS), but I can’t get it to work, i.e. raise the number of computer connections allowable under Windows XP professional. Some chat sites seem to imply that this is a feasible item, please tell me if so.
Thanks

My wireless only works at work if I manually put in the network tcpip properties.?

My laptop will only connect to my works wifi if i manually put in my IP, subnet mask, default gateway, and my DNS server address. Therefore when I go home or any other location to use my laptop I must go into my tpcip v4 properties and click obtain ip automatically and obtain dns server automatically for it to work. It is rather annoying having to do this so i was hoping for some help. I am running Vista 64-bit Thank you.
The DHCP is enabled…we have many computers connecting to the router that do not have the same problems as i do.
