IP telephony network, but remote sites can’t talk to each other?
My company has an Ip telephony network, that consists of 3com NBX, PIX fire wall, and fail over fire wall, Cisco switch, IP telephony sets, and cisco routers,
Remote sites are connected to internet through SDSL cisco routers, but they can’t talk to each other, while any remote office can talk to main office, and vise versa.
If a remote office tries to call another remote one the other will here the ringing, but once he tries to answer, they can’t hear each othe,
Is there anybody can help suggesting some possible reasons.?
Configuring D-Link Router to Work with Talk America DSL?
What are the correct configuration parameters for a D-Link (DI-524) DSL Router with Talk America DSL? I set up the router to use PPPoE with the Talk America username and password with no success. I also tried dynamic IP with no luck. I called Talk America and their evening tech support couldn’t help me (as in, I could have told the guy that we didn’t have enough gigawatts for the flux capacitor and he still would have told me that the day support team would be able to answer my question during normal business hours).
Somebody has to have used Talk America via a DSL router before and I’m sure there’s some minor setting to change, but I don’t have the time to spend hours working through th permutations. Can anyone out there help?
Ok… I got someone else on the phone at Talk America and they gave me the correct info. It turns out is does not use PPPoE at all (bad info from first support call). They use an internal static address. I went into the router, set the WAN to static IP and entered the following:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 71.4.96.36
Secondary DNS: 71.4.96.44
After applying that, it worked, the internet is grand and life is good again.
Overall, Talk America is much cheaper than others, but in support you get what you pay for. The DSL support is only available from 8AM-5PM (this is for home service — don’t they realize I have a job to go to?) and apparently the non-DSL support team feels free to adlib and hand out bad info. AND, they have none of the configuration infomation available anywhere online (at least nothing that returns via Google).
Does Straight Talk prepaid service not accept calls from VOIP phones?
I have a Straight Talk Samsung R451c phone, and I’ve tried calling it from my Magic Jack phone, and my iPod Touch VOIP app, and when I do, I just hear three beeps and then silence. Does Straight Talk block VOIP calls? Is there a way to make it work?

Emerging Tech Talk #27 – The Park Bench Manifesto – Why We Want to Kill Off the PSTN – eComm 2009
What is the “rich communication experience” that we are trying to build? Why can’t that experience work over today’s Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)? What do we need to make this experience happen? In this 10-minute presentation at the Emerging Communication Conference (eComm), Dan York seeks to answer the question of why we want to move beyond the PSTN – outlining the kind of experience we are seeking, the pieces of the communications puzzle that are currently available, the issues we need to address and the roadblocks that are in place. He ends asking people to think about what is the experience we want to build – and to bring more people into that conversation to make it happen. A text version of Dan’s talk will be available at www.disruptivetelephony.com and the slides are available at: www.slideshare.netMore information about Emerging Tech Talk can be found at blogs.voxeo.com where you can subscribe to the RSS feed or follow on Twitter at twitter.com . The application comes with 12 months of service or you can purchase the lite edition for $1.99 which comes with 2 months of service. Enjoy.
Emerging Tech Talk #28 – Skype For SIP
Yesterday Skype announced the beta of their “Skype For SIP” service that will allow Skype users to call premise call servers/IP-pbxs via SIP and for those servers to make outbound calls to PSTN phone numbers using Skype’s network and at Skype’s rates. In this episode, host Dan York talks about the announcement and what it all means for Skype interoperability (or lack thereof). Dan also wrote at length about Skype For SIP over at: www.disruptivetelephony.comMore information about Emerging Tech Talk can be found at blogs.voxeo.com where you can subscribe to the RSS feed or follow on Twitter at twitter.com . Emerging Tech Talk #002 – inum and “global phone numbers”
What if you could have ONE phone number that worked anywhere in the world and that you could always have and take with you as you moved around? What if you could call that number from both voip services and the traditional phone system (PSTN)? That is the promise of an “inum” and in this show host Dan York interviews Voxbone CEO and co-founder Rod Ullens about the inum launch today. More info about inum can be found at www.inum.net and about the show at http
