I am designing a network for a training center that has 4 classrooms with 24 machines in each so thats 72 client machines at least
client server architecture , with wired cat5 star topology

I have to connect about 20 PCs on a network but they are in two different floors, there are 500ft between the floors, can I put a switch on one floor and connect it 500ft with CAT5e to another switch?

I was wondering what I could practice on these, I was thinking of putting a router and sw in my friends dorm and 2 in mine, then hooking a server and client to each. But then what? we figure we could setup a vpn connection. Any other ideas for practicing scenarios and working w/ cisco equip.?

Or should a straight through be used?

This assignment is for my WAN technology class. I just do not no where to begin. I thnk the switch we are using is an 2950.

I want to hook up two switches to expand my network Architecture. By using three non CISCO switches of 24 port each. This switches has no Uplinking port on them. So, is it right to connect them together on any available ports.

Why is it when I connect a Netgear GS605 to a FS608 the light on the FS608 is Green but the light on the GS605 is Green?

I have 2 GS605′s connected to the FS608 to different areas of my home and both lights on the FS608 are green indicating a 1000 Mbps link but on the GS605′s they are amber indicating a 10/100 Mpbs link.

It started after I scanned for viruses then I deleted my cookies and it happened that I could not connect to the net I remember seeing that my firewall forbid it and when i tryed to run programmes like regcure it showed “windows sockets initialization failed” and my mcafee could not scan or reinstall so yesterday I downloaded winsock v1.4 my internet was fine regcure could run and cure problems BUT THE PROBLEM IS when i log on an unregistered version of reg. mechnic run and scans i tryed unistalling it PC SHUTS DOWN I insert a flash drive to reinstall my antivirus PC SHUTS DOWN my friend told me he had the same prob and he contracted the virus from the net. i can not do any thing on my pc coz it logs off auto i tryed safe mode still can’t resolve PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have a Cisco Catalyst 3548 XL switch which I want to configure with VLANs and other stuff but I don’t want to spend hours or even days playing around on the command line. Is there a quick setup tool that can at least cook up a basic configuration that I can upload to the switch?
Cisco Configmaker does not support Catalysts. Certainly not the 35XX series.

Is it better to have multiple CAT6 cable runs from one 24-port network switch going directly to computers/components or use an 8-port switch next to my router with CAT6 cable runs going to multiple 4-port desktop switches and my computers/components hooked up to the desktop switches? Is there a speed advantage one way over the other? Is there a speed advantage to plugging components with high-bandwidth requirements directly into my router with CAT6 cable instead of going through a switch to the router’s switch? Will components on separate switches show up as on the same network still? I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router and plenty of CAT6 cable (1000’) and keystone jacks. I have an unfinished basement ATM so it’s not a problem to make the cable runs. I did a little looking on the web but could not find straightforward answers to my questions and I do not know the intricacies of networking. Thanks in advance!

How do I enable auto QOS between two 4500 series Cisco switches connected via fiber trunk link? Each switch has an AVAYA IP gateway plugged into it. We would like the voIP traffic flowing between the gateways to have precedence over all other traffic that traverses that link. There are no IP phones plugged into either switch, just gateway to gateway traffic. Thanks!

I have a 54 Mbps router/switch and I also have some 1000 Mbps equipment to connect. What is best solution – buy an extra faster switch or a new router? Thanks
