hey guys.. need some help!

i have TWC as my ISP and my connection is located at the back house and we are temporarily staying in the front house (about 100ft from each other) now, i setup a little network where my TWC modem is connected to a D-link switch and from the switch, there is my pc, my ps3 and a wireless router for the front house (im using a 100ft cat6 cable)..

now, the router works great but i get the ‘limited or no connection’ message on my pc and my PS3 cant connect to the internet!.. why can i connect? do i have to change the switch for another router?
My PS3 and my PC are set to auto DHCP so that shouldnt be a problem.. i was able to connect all my devices (wired and wireless) when i was only using my router, but now that i added the switch in between, i cant.. only the router works..

i cant connect my router to the PS3 and my PC because my router is located on the front house so that means i have to run two more 100ft cables back from the router. i dont want to do that!

So i bought the SR2016 Linksys 16port 10/100/1000 switch today… well returned a broken one last week and waited for this one to arrive new…. i’m having the same problem as the last one, it just won’t pick up to it’s gigabit speed. I’ve replaced all Cat5 cables in the house with Cat5e(gigabit supported) and yet still cant get gig between 2 computers with gig cards. Before i go out buying useless Cat6 for trial-runs anyone have any ideas.

I have a building with three floors. Each floor has a 3560 switch that connects to a 4500 switch in the basement.

There is also a second link from the 3560s to the 4500 switch in case one link goes down.

So I was wondering if I can use both links and then if one link fails, then all the traffic can be routed using the other link.

Some how the settings on my computer got a little mixed up and it got switched to dial-up instead up broadband. It’s really annoying because now I have to wait like 5 minutes to get on the internet and I don’t know how to switch it back. Can anybody help?

I’m downloading large files. I plug in a CAT5 cable and vista continues to download from my WIFI. Can switch back and forth. Damn this Vista, XP would say LAN connecting etc. Vista has me lost.

I have three computers and an xbox at home and I am trying tie all of them into the internet. They don’t need to be networked all have separate printers, just need internet. I have a switch with eight ports however I also have a router with a four port switch. Which would be best and what is the difference?

My Wireless Router died but I really don’t use the Wireless part of it. I just use the ports on the back to direct my network between 2 desktop computers and an Xbox. I saw something called a “Switch” that has 5, 10/100mbps ports on the back and an Ethernet input on it. Will that work alright for surfing the Internet and playing on line games?

Our church has an existing system using 5 computers networked to a UHF high speed provider. I would like to add an 8 Port Switch and more computers. May I take one of the Cat5E runs and plug it into this new 8 port switch and feed the 5 new computers without having to deal with ( don’t have the foggiest ) configuring I P addresses?

On ebay the Cisco Catalyst 2960 is selling for around $1500. Is there a much cheaper switch that I can practice with? Or are there any creative solutions to this problem?

I want to practice using the Router & IOS Software

I need to get inside a switch (locally) from my PC so I can reprogram it. My computer does not have a serial port, so do i just use CAT5 cable with hyperterminal? And if so, does it need to be crossover?

Or am i supposed to use something else like a usb to serial emulator? Then hyperterminal after that?

Me and 3 of my friends want to play Age of empires II: conquerors in multiplayer mode. We have four Vista machines and an 8-ports ethernet switch. We also have enough RJ45 cables to connect between PCs and Switch.
We would like to know how to set up a LAN connection among us in order to play the game.
Any idea will be very much appreciated.
