Can someone make me some kind of like an idiots guide to set a static IP under a network on Vista Ultimate?
It’s really a pain in the arse having to restart the DHCP everytime I sign on.
Please be as specific as possible, as I’m not real proud of my PC knowledge.
CCA 3.0: Static NAT Mappings
CCA 3.0 allows to configure static NAT mappings for the WAN connection that is configured with a static IP address or PPPoE negotiated IP address. To navigate to the Static NAT mappings in the feature bar, choose Configure then Security then NAT .
can i setup my comp to have a static IP at home & dynamic at school w/out changing the TCPIP config each time?
so i need to have a static ip on my home network for port forwarding….so i setup the tcp/ip to do so, and it worked great.
then i got to school, and it wouldn’t connect…i realized it was the static ip, so i changed the tcp/ip config to “obtain ip address automatically”….and it works
whats lame is that in the tcp/ip config, there are radio buttons for the dynamic and static…lets say you put values in the static, then click the radio button for the dynamic, even though the static is disabled, it deletes all the values for the static.
so i get to school, disable the static…then when i get home, i have to manually re-enter the ip, mask, gateway and dns servers….this is a pain, and should not be….
is there anyway to have both these configs setup to work without manually re-entering the static info every time i get home?
can it be done with multiple profiles? i have a dell insprion E1505 laptop, which uses intel PROSet/wireless to connect to both my home and school
FYI, i have not played around with different profiles and setting, because i just have not had the time, and can’t afford to waste time fiddling around. What better way to save time then to ask an expert who has had success.
Thanks

If your network uses static IP addressing, what information will you need to know?
Most networks use DHCP servers and dynamic IP addressing. If your network uses static IP addressing, what information will you need to know? Thanks.
What type of connection should I chose? PPPoE, PPPoA, Dynamic/Fixed IP (1483 Bridged), Static IP (IPoA), or -?
-Modem Only (Disable Internet Sharing). At the moment I use PPPoA I was using PPPoE before, but my wireless router failed to connect with every other devices at home such as my Laptop, phone and wii. By the way, I’m using internet for home purposes.
How do I disable NAT and give a static IP adress to my Linksys BEFW 11S4 router?
I’m trying to make my wireless router act as only access point, and I was told to turn off NAT, DHCP and give it a static IP. I have already disabled DHCP but I need to know how to turn off NAT and what to do to get a static IP working. Thanks.

I cannot reach my static addresses from ATT.?
I have signed up for a block of static IP addresses but cannot access them. I have a Linksys Router access my DSL modem via PPPoE and I get back 75.55.5.6 as my router address. This works fine. The router is set up for my static addresses. I have 3 or more computers that I assigned Static Addresses from 75.55.5.1 to 75.55.5.2 to etc… 75.55.5.5. All of these computers have Internet connectivity. So far so good. But here is the problem. I can’t ping 75.55.5.1 to 75.55.5.5 from the outside world. What I need to do is have another computer send a Special protocol DataGram to one of these computers on its static address. I want to use ports 1234 and 1235. But from the outside internet access, they do not route to my computers. I can only ping 75.55.5.6. So what is wrong? How do I communicate with these computers?
Thanks,

My house has 50 static IPs for each computer. I want to change that so each router has one static IP and have each user now DHCP. I heard that it is possible. How would i change it from 50 static to only one or two with the actual users now using DHCP. Thanks for the help.

Which is better for video conferencing … DHCP or static IP?
I must help link three sites so video calls can be initated by anyone in the company, not just the “tech savvy.” If using DHCP will a call be more difficult to set up? Or will the Polycom device’s MAC address provide enough information to rout the call?
Would static IP be simpler? What about cost of static vs. DHCP?
Thanks in advance for you answers!
