I was downsized from my last job. The company over-hired in the financial services customer service. Let go after a few months on the job. Previously had seven years in telecom customer service. I have my MBA. I am looking for other customer service jobs in financial services, telecommunications, marketing, health care customer service. I have heard that security is a growing industry. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I bought a Cricket wireless passport broadband card and my laptop doesn’t have a PC card slot. The card requires a standard type II slot. My laptop is new, an hp pavilion 9420. Is there an adapter or something I can use?

Small level in terms of Investment. Basically i am an Electronics and Communications Engineer with some basic marketing knowledge. Looking for something in the areas of Telecommunication with a blend of Computer Hardware, still open for any suggestions..

I want to know if they are worth it, I’m a veteran who is already going to school for my degree in IT (network and Telecommunication) but I’m going to need Certificate and New Horizons call me and told me about the course they offer.

I have two computers; one is a PC with XP Pro and the other is a MAC Pro which I’m VNCing through a gigabit LAN connection accross a cat6 cable at almost 100ft. Everything works fine however there are some cases (particularly when I use alot of moving graphics, or when I set up the VNC client for dual monitors) that the refresh starts to stutter.

I’ve yet to find a better CROSS PLATFORM VNC client other than Real VNC . So basically, RealVNC is on PC, and the provided VNC software is on the MAC Pro (Snow Leopard). I’d like to know how I may be able to speed up my LAN connection. I connected through one cable using a generic gigabit card from Best Buy in my PC and the onboard ethernet connections on the Mac
Or besides VNC, any other ideas for remote sessioning a mac from a pc via ethernet connection?

I know I’m getting some upload as I can send simple Google queries and get results. However, anything of any size at all is just not getting through. I’ve ruled out everything except the wire going through the wall. What could possibly be wrong with such that I get only a trinkle of upload speed?
Ok, so it’s obviously making the connection. Where else do I look?
I’m getting 3mb down and it can’t even run an upload test. Nothing.

I’ve tried hooking in directly to the router and that works just fine.

But when I go from the router to the wall (which goes through the attic to another wall) and then try to connect, I end up with these problems. I’ll try some of what you suggested, though.

Another blast from the past, a couple of slots of a “Blinds” effect as well as a couple of raster bars moving in a variable sinus pattern.

and I heard that Verizon FiOS was the service that provides that speed w/ CAT6 cables. However, I went to the speed comparison on the Verizon website for FiOS, and found this…

Last time I checked my laptop’s wireless configuration menu (now) I see 54.0 Mbps. Therefore I was wondering if you guys can explain about the other differences than what I see below

50 Mbps — FiOS
54 Mbps — Wireless DSL

my home just got renovated and I am hooking up a 50 foot ethernet wire from my room to my sister’s room. However, it is still 20 feet short. getting 100 ft cable is not an option. (the whole purpose was to hide the cables within the wall)… can i connect with another router? im confused.. .help!!

I want to replace my wireless with a hardline, buried over 450 feet to reach my cabin. Hopefully, this will speed me up, and save headaches from my wireless conking out regularly.
I know I need to throw a switch in halfway to boost the voltage, no probs there. But lately, reading about lightning strikes has gotten me thinking about using fiberoptic to remove the potential of getting fried.
Now I thought I’d run just a couple feet of it, and use cat5e for the rest. This would break the metal connection to my PC and save me a whole pile of money.
Anyone know how much the thingies you need on the ends of the fiber cost, and also the fiber itself. I don’t know what I need exactly.
Does adding this extra complication cause much signal loss? I hear you want to minimize connectors in an ethernet cable. I figure any decent line has to be a lot faster than wireless, in any case.

Ja, but I hear those are mostly useless, and interfere with the signal. If it did fail, my $2000 PC be toast.

How important are they, what do they consist of and what’s the prices of the exams??

Since my house was made before the vast spread of technology (in the late 90′s), I have a phone outlet instead of an ethernet outlet by my electronics. I want to be able to have a direct connection from my xbox, bluray player, etc. How much would it cost/how hard of a job would it take to convert a phone outlet to an ethernet outlet?

I’ve recently become interested in computer networking and i’m about to try to get the CCENT certification. I don’t have any real previous experience in the job field so what can I do to get some basic experience for further progress?

It’s really a pain in the arse having to restart the DHCP everytime I sign on.

Please be as specific as possible, as I’m not real proud of my PC knowledge.
