Ok. i moved into an apartment that offers free internet. there is no modem just a wall socket to connect an ethernet cable, thats what i’m on now. but i want to connect a wireless linksys router to it so i can go wireless on my laptop. i assume this connection is coming from a network as it is, so one concern that i have is, will my ip address change all the time and will it affect my wireless conection? and also how do i go about setting up my router?

I have an XBOX 360, but no ethernet plug near it. However, there is a blue ?Cat5? cable sticking out of the wall. My mom thinks it should be a plug, but it is broken like this: =======<. It is just a cable with wires coming out. I am wondering if maybe I could fix it or if I can hire someone to fix it.

Hi, I don’t have a BT Master Socket in my new property, the internal telephone wiring system is just taped up to bt’s external wiring in the loft. I have a problem connecting with my new broadband adsl. Could this be because I have no Master Socket?

Ring wire can act like an antenna and pick up unwanted interference which can weaken your connection. You’ll find ring wire in the phone socket, connected to pin 3, usually orange but that assumes that whoever wired it up followed the colour code properly. Disconnect it in all sockets, In fact disconnect any wires that are NOT connected to pin 2 and 5.
