If I add a wired router to my my wireless router, how does that affect file sharing?
I have a wireless Linksys 54G router. I have three gaming computers that I would like send hard lines to. I would like to just add one ethernet wire to another wire only router in that room and then hook these three up to the secondary router.
My question is if I do this, will still be able access shared data on computers hooked up to the first router?

Sharing ADSL line by using individual cables?
I have my own ADSL line and other people want to share from me by using D-link switcher. How can I know if they get one cable from me and share to 3rd party by using 2nd switcher ???
T1 Line information needed and wireless line sharing.?
My county only has Dial-up or Satellite (some wireless) – unless you live in town.
What information can you help me with about T1 lines?
Upon doing a little research on it, I understand, anyone can get a T1 line and yes it’s quite expensive. However, I learned yesterday I can rent off parts of it to wireless individuals – which would help me pay for my own service. I could not learn the reliability for the wireless or the distance factor – so that wireless PC’s owners can pick up on my T1 line.
I don’t want to deal with major Internet Brokers either. I know there are small companies out there and I am willing to pay up to $300.00 a month. Most are offering from $450 – $575 a month. I need to find some of the smaller companies here in the State of Ohio. Carroll County actually.
My question is: How close do people have to live to pick up on the T1? What equipment is needed? One individual said special routers…another individual said a small tower. Still another said neither of these. I really want to learn this and it’s very “hush hush” on the Internet and elsewhere.
What absolutely kills me is that it is available to all people…but they charge so so much. ($300.00 – $1500.00 a month). Yet they offer DSL, Cable, Satellite and Dial-up. Why not T1? All businesses should be able to get T1 at least…and at a decent price or any of the other many many options of high speed. (FIOS, T3 and DS3 to name a few although costly.) Most folks don’t even know it’s available let alone they all can share a line – legally.
I will say, I personally talked to several T1 “brokers” yesterday. They all agreed that parts of the T1 can be rented out for wireless PC’s legally. I found that very interesting but what amazed me is …none of them knew how it can be done. Hmmmm… (ssshhh ssshhh must not tell.) ![]()
I need any information. I am determined to help around here. This County I live in just is not getting information out to the people. I have also been going to local town’s meetings along with a Government group to get broadband into the county. Sadly, the Ohio State organization working for the Grant to do that…is talking only money and politics with one delay after another and other county’s competing for the grants too.
So thank you in advance if anyone can help me.

Internet Connection Sharing doesn’t work anymore between my xbox 360 and laptop?
When I enable connection sharing out of my ethernet port, my wifi connection (internet connection I want to share) changes from “assigned by DHCP” to “manually configured” and does not work. How can I share my wifi to my xbox through my laptop with an ethernet cable? It used to work.
Internet Sharing Problems.?
Hey so I have one of those big, desktop computers with windows xp, and a laptop with windows xp.
The desktop doesn’t have a wifi card or anything, and i dont want to pay for one. I’ve been trying to share my laptop’s wireless connection (and yes i checked the box to share it), and i says connected on both. But when i open internet explorer on the desktop, it says that it can’t find the server. I also reset the winsock stuff, and im pretty stumped with ip stuff.
-Thanx!
P.S. I am using a crossover ethernet cable.
I have my wireless adapter shared and both the computers have all the exact same setiings, except that the ip address for the desktop is:
192.168.0.1
laptop:
192.168.0.2
otherwise some conflict happens.
i know adapters are cheap but i dont get an allowance.
File Sharing Over a Network Difficulties?
Ok, first off here is my network setup.
Internet:
I receive my connection from a modem from my ISP, and i have a Linksys WRT120N Connected to my cable modem. The router is always connected, the password for the PPPoE and stuff is configured in the router.
Desktop 1:
Desktop 1 is my main, it is connected directly into my router and it receives internet connection directly from one of the ports in the router. It is always connected as long as the router is connected through a WAN type connection on the Desktop.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is the old, disconnected PPPoE connection i used to use before i got my router, and a WAN connection to the router.
Desktop 2:
Desktop 2 is in my room and it uses a wireless PCI card to connect. It connects to the router with a wireless connection and i have no problems with it.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is an Internet Gateway (not entirely sure what this is or does at all), disconnected LAN, and a Wireless Connection to the Router which it uses to access the web.
Situation:
Now, today i wanted to make some shared folders on my computers so i could copy files from computer to computer with out using a flash drive. I used the “Set up home network wizard” on both systems with the same Workgroup name. BUT, i can only access a shared folder thats ON Computer 1 FROM Computer 2. Computer 1 wont even show any other folders other than its own in “My Network Places”. but Computer 2 will show everything.
Id like to be able to access files on Computer 2 from Computer 1 and not just the other way around, but i cant seem to figure it out, my only thought is that since Comp1 is connected directly into the Router it cant access the wireless connections through it, or something like that.
I’m a rookie IT Specialist who is trying to learn Networking and i appreciate any help possible.
Thanks
Oh and I am on Windows XP Home on both systems.
Also, any tips on how to delete the network data i made and just start all over from scratch might end up being my only solution.
What purpose does port 137 serve when I have file sharing off and have disabled uPnP?
I also have DCOM off, and see no purpose in broadcast addresses doing anything once I’ve gotten my DHCP address assigned. However, I’m seeing a lot of port 137 and 138 in my firewall log. I selected a Public Network, so I’m really confused. Also, it looks like binary data of some kind in the packets I captured.
What is really going on here?
Windows Server 2008 and internet sharing?
Hi, I’m just playing around with windows server 2008 and I am trying to find a way to share an internet connection on that server to other computers on the network.
I would like to set it up so that only specific users on the network have access to the internet. The other computers are all on workgroup and not part of the domain.
If possible I would also like to configure it so that I can limit speed and the bandwidth cap of a specific user
I think I’m trying to set up something like a PPPOE server so that someone on an XP or windows 7 machine can just set up a PPPOE connection and enter in a user name and password to connect to the servers internet connection.
Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks
Which is the faster way to send data from a VB form to an MS Access database, folder sharing or sockets?
I am developing a simple application that would send data from a client computer to another computer where MS Access database resides. Both workstations or connected via VPN (not sure, though) and they are about 1500km apart. I’m currently accessing the database through a shared folder. It just occured to me to use sockets. Do you think using Winsock will do better in terms of speed? I’m not an experienced programmer. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Set up a Wireless/Wired Network for Printer Sharing?
I have a desktop with a printer installed. The desktop connects to the internet through a LinkSys WRTP54G firewall/router. The linksys connects to a dsl modem that connects to my DSL(PPPoE)connected. The desktop is connected to the router via Cat5 ethernet cable(but does have a wifi card).
And I just bought a new laptop which is connects to the internet via WIFI.
I want to share the printer on my wired PC to the wireless laptop. Both running XP pro.
When I go through “network setup wizzard” I select “this computer connects to the internet directly through a network hub. Other computers connect to the internet throuhg a hub” …is that correct?
When I select to “share folders and printer” XP gives me a message saying since i connect difrec tly through a hub people on the internet will be able to view my shared files and use my printer, security risk…etc.
Am i doing this correctly? Should i set it up some other way?
Thanks
I’m a little confused. Maybe I’m not using a hub. The printer is connected directly to the desktop via USB, the desktop is then connected to thr router via CAT5.
The laptop is connected directly to the router through the WIFI connection, so its connecting to the internet through the wireless router….does that help?
internet connection sharing?
Hi
I have a macbook with leopard and another laptop with xpsp2.
I connect to the net through pppoe.
The question is how can i share the connection betwen the 2 computers wirelessly?
if i try to connect the xp one to the net and share the connection it says that it can not assign the ip on the wireless network.
How do i enable sharing on the mac to try the reverse?
IMAP email sharing between a mac and a PC?
I have my own email and web hosting, and I need to access my account from both home (a mac) and at work (a PC). Since I really don’t like webmail interfaces, I end up downloading all my messages twice (at home and at work), sorting out junk mail twice, filing messages twice. . .you get the picture.
My question is–would it be possible to have all my email data on a remote server and simply tap into that from at home and work on a standalone program such as eudora–is that what IMAP does? Will this work in a cross-platform situation? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated. . .
