what does it mean when DNS and DHCP servers have the same IP ? other than both being deployed on the same machine????

I have my ethernet cable plugged into my computer which has a network adapter to connect to a D-Link router in another room. I’m trying to connect to Xbox Live with this setup and the following message occurs:

“Your DNS servers can’t resolve the names of Xbox Live server or Xbox.com”

My LAN connection and my wireless connection are bridged together.

I’d like to write a program that broadcasts the DHCP request on UDP68 to check for rogue DHCP servers but I’m not sure how to do that. How difficult would such code be? Also, I’d want it to broadcast to the entire LAN and not just the subnet the computer the code runs on is in. Is that possible?

My settings have been changed to the point in which my one computer is able to get internet because the DHCP server is assigning an ip address. My router and my other 3 computers arent able to access an ip address so is it possible that i can change the settings so that my router and my other computers are able to get an assigned number from my DHCP server?

I’m looking for commercial / open source DHCP servers that are most commonly used. I know Linux, Windows and Solaris are platforms where dhcp service can be run from, but a few more names that are commonly used would be helpful. Thanks !

I have two DHCP servers with different subnet connect to the same cisco switch 3550 with 10 gigabit ports. Port # 2 connect to DHCP server1, Port # 3 connect to DHCP server2 and Port # 3 connect to dhcp client zone. Is it impossible to work out? If yes, please tell me on how to do it!
