I lose my internet connection and after running diagnostic, it says there’s a problem reading winsock catalog?
Can anyone help me correct this problem? All I have to do is restart the computer and I have my connection back, but it gets to be a nuisance when I am in the and I lose my connection.
Demo of the IRCjr IRC client running on an IBM PCjr
This demonstration shows an IBM PCjr from 1983 running the IRCjr IRC client. After booting to PC DOS 5.0 and loading the packet driver for the Ethernet adapter I use DHCP to get an IP address from my router and then use IRCjr to connect to irc.freenode.net. All of this including the underlying TCP/IP code is running directly on the PCjr with no help from any other machine. Note the wonderful sounds of the 5.25″ diskette drive seeking during the boot process. The keyboard is not an authentic PCjr keyboard – it is a keyboard from an IBM PC being used with an adapter. (A PCjr keyboard would never have that kind of clickety-clack action going on.) More information about the PCjr can be found at www.brutman.com and more information about IRCjr can be found at www.brutman.com .

OMAP L138 based Hawkboard running Angstrom Linux with Gnome
In this configuration I’m booting the kernel image from the board’s NAND and the root filesystem (Angstrom) from the embedded SD. The board is networked via the built-in RJ45 port and takes the local IP via DHCP at boot. The network connection is not mandatory to boot the board since the kernel has been burned to NAND and doesn’t have to be transferred through the network (eg using TFTP). Unfortunately the desktop resolution can’t be changed and is currently locked to 640×480@47Hz More info: www.hawkboard.org

I disabled a bunch of the services and system files on my computer running the windows XP OS. Help! :)?
Here is the backgound:
My aunt gave me a computer. So I have no literature or help manuals. (Maybe I should have asked her if she has any?)
This computer runs windows XP. I have tiredlessly tried to streamline the RAM being used on this computer. I disabled many of the services related to the system. That was easy enough, but now I can’t restart them. Why can’t I enable the services again?
Additional info:
When I press ctrl+alt+del and bring up the taskmanager window (with all the programs running)…
…under the user tab it show no users logged on as it has shown in the past when everything was working.
All suggestions welcome, because I have no idea on this stuff! Any info will be helpful.
Also: some of the services I know I need to get started again:
telephony,
plug and play,
both of which will not start and do not have an option for starting, and I cannot click on poperties to enable these.
Also, I keep getting error messages ” the dependency service or group failed to start’
I think the main problem here is disabling the ability to start these things up again, but do not know how to or what it is.
I also think it might have something to do with administartion control., but I don’t know how to set it back or regain it on this computer if I have messed up the adminstration functions.
Again, any help will be appreciated and I will credit the best answer whether it works or not.
Thanks.
Thanks guys for the help. All good answers so far!
…but I have tried all these solutions already and have retried them..
When i go to control panel > administrative tools > services, and then the window that comes up has an “extended’; and “standard’ tab at the bottom. The extended tab brings up no services and I think it did before I messed everything up. The standard tab does have the list of all the services. I can start some that already have a manual setting but I can’t enable any that are disabled. I can right click on the service but the properties on each one will give “Configuration manager: The plug and play service or another service is not available.”
I have tried msconfig and rebooted it …still no luck.
I am learning a bit about this stuff …but still haven’t fixed this problem.
O yea, and I tried the “restore computer to a previous date” option already. It tells me this service is not available (which was what I was counting on to repair anything I messed up)
…and yes under “users” on the task manager window, it shows no users logged in but that is probably because I disabled that feature.
I am going to try the help website listed.
computer programs running in background?
so i’m trying to get internet explorer 8 to run faster. i’ve got my computer running pretty good, but IE is being a pain. i have an HP dv6000. it’s a 32 bit. windows vista. i was down to about 35% free space left on my hard drive, so i went and bought an external 500 gb hard drive and put my music and pictures and other crap on there. and i’ve defraged. ran disk cleanup, ran a registry check, scanned for issues on disc C, now i’m at about 62% free space. i was hoping all that would help with IE but it hasn’t. i don’t have any virus software so i dunno if i have one or not, but random music will sometimes play in the background even when there isn’t any programs open. so i’m thinking i may have a virus? so now i’m looking at the programs running in the background, i read on someone elses question to use http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=application+experience this site to go by for the programs running, but i’m still confused, so i’m looking for someone who can actually tell me
“yes – keep it”
“no – it’s a virus or something unnecessary”
“maybe – depends on if you want to or not”
“? – i don’t know”

does anyone have any idea how to get the random music to stop playing? and any recommendations for free virus software? thanks!
the music is like a radio playing. sometimes it’ll be a commerical, sometimes it’ll be just music and sometimes it’ll be like radio dj’s talking. i haven’t downloaded anything yet except avg, it detected quite a few things including a trojan horse. and i contacted hp and they suggested reseting IE so i’ve done that. it helped a very very small amount. i’m thinking of testing out firefox

Using The Disk Cleanup Utility To Keep A PC Running Smoothly
tinyurl.com GET THIS PROGRAM NOW PLEASE SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS To keep a PC running smoothly, regular maintenance is critical. Many users shy away from maintenance tasks, thinking it is a long, drawn out manual affair, but the Disk Cleanup Utility can easily determine which files on a hard drive may no longer be needed and delete those files. In addition to freeing up potentially significant amounts of hard drive space, using Disk Cleanup on a regular basis can significantly improve system performance. Need to hook up 1 ethernet cable to PS3 and HD Tivo. How can I do this with out running anouther line?
My home theater is upstairs away from my router. I have already run 1 ethernet cable to the PS3 for online gaming but now have an HD Tivo that requires an ethernet cable for netfix. How can I split the one ethernet into 2 to avoid running another ethernet cable?
Anyone have any tips on running ethernet cables in a house?
My house is about 12 years old and was not built with network cable runs. Can someone link me to some good sites/give me some good ideas on running cables? Ideally I’d like the modem/router mounted on my board where the electric/cable/phone lines come in and then run ethernet from there. Can this be done without ripping too many walls out? Any good tricks to use existing cable runs to snake my ethernet cables along those?
I have a wireless network. The question is strictly about wiring runs not how to set up a network.
How do I get my pbx up and running?
I have a small pbxtra from fonality that I’m trying to get up and running. Everything appears to be running as far as the pbx is concerned but I can’t ‘attach’ a phone number to it.
Any suggestions?
