Ok so i am currently downloading SWG(star wars galaxies) Free 14 day trial. It seems to be updating abnormally slow. I am downloading it with broadband internet, but i am also running it through a CAT5 cable connected to a wireless router, leading to the network adm. computer, ive heard this can slow it down quite a bit. Is there anyone who can help me correct this?
so its downloading the game and all the updates since the game arrived in 2002?

Just wondering how far I can run Cat5e without plugging it into a router for a boost.

There is only one spot on my modem for an ethernet cable and it’s already taken and running to the computer. I can’t get a splitter yet, as it’s sunday…but would it work for me to unplug the ethernet cable from my computer and plug it into my xbox 360 console. So it would be running directly from the console to the router?

I built a gigabit home network, but it’s still running at 100Mbps.
Equipment:
2 PCs with built in gigabit NIC (Gigabyte MBs).
An 8 port gigabit switch (Trendnet).
15m of ready made Cat 6 cables (Eton), 2 pcs.
I got 1Gbps only with a patch cable (~1m cat5), a 100Mbps with the both Cat6 cables, and a 100Mbps with another two Cat5E cables that I tried earlier.
What could be the problem?
This is a HOME network to transfer files from one PC to another PC (acting at NAS). And I need the connection between the two PCs through the switch to be 1Gbps.
ISP and internet connection have nothing to do with this.

I was looking for maybe a flat multi CAT5 cable or a sigle cable then when I get to where I want it I will run individual cables to there destinations.
Can I connect from Switch to switch though?

I work at a business of about 100 people. I was just recently hired, but I am still in school and have only been at a tech school for 1 year after this semester. I have no idea if there is any danger in snipping a cat5e wire while it is still running. I could presume not, but I could be wrong. I have no help at work, as there is only one other person hired for IT but they are never here. I would unplug the wire at both ends, but I have no idea where this runs to. Again, just wondering if there is any danger in snipping a live(pluged in to router) cat5e wire. Thanks
I forgot to say where I was cutting it. I’m cutting it about 1 foot away from the current plug and then recapping and then trying to plug it back in after re-capping. Thanks.

The CAT5 Cable is crossover or regular, take your pick of which one I should use. I’m trying to transfer 4.5 gigabytes of information from one to the other. I’ve tryed using Windows XP stupid networking setup wizard, and nothing works. They are both also connected to my wireless network. It’s really ticking me off. Help please?

For example..my cat5e cable is running through a modem and im looking to add it to another room to connect to pc and xbox 360. wireless modem not an option. also, i dont want to have to buy 2 50 foot cables just to connect the devices. I just want one 50 foot cable to connect to an adapter that will allow me to use 2 5 foot cat5e cables to connect to pc and xbox. Just looking for something like how telephone adapters split the phone like to make 2 jacks. Thanks.

ok im running a cat5 450 ft between houses the computer has limited network connectivity so do you know any way i can make this work and what hardware we need

I am tired of my media center and xbox extender connecting (or not!) wirelessly and I am looking to run a network cable directly between them. The Xbox is in the room directly above the media center and I want to go through the interior wall. I am not familiar with dropping cable and before I rip open the walls or anything I wanted to know if its likely the wall is hollow all the way down or will there be a beam going through wall on. If there is a beam do I just cut the drywall open and drill a hole through the beam into the wall space below? Then I can cut a hole in the drywall at the bottom and pull the cable through ? I am a little confused and don’t really want to rip my house apart for no reason. The xbox 360 is in a closet in the bedroom above the stairwell and the media center is in the closet beneath the stairs if that helps.

I’ve noticed that when I have several clients such as eMule running overnight, come morning the router will have hung itself and I have to reboot it to get access to the internet.
Is this normal, or do I have a crap router?

I am trying to figure out what these mean wsock32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, winsock.dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, and kernel32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, after running my antivirus scan these came up, what do they mean, and is it harming my computer, Thanks Jen
Hi it didnt recommend to do anything, it would be my choice, but each time a scan is run the will still come up, no matter if they are deleted at that time

I have had my Wii for several months now, but have yet to have a connection to my wireless router! I have tried many things, so I will be as detailed as possible. I have spent an hour on the phone with Nintendo and I think they are almost out of suggestions. I have a Linksys WRT54G v6 router. The firmware is up to date. My Wii sees my SSID. If it means anything, the Wii seems to show my SSID twice in the listings (most of the time) and each has a different signal strength. I have tried connecting to both. I have tried Auto Obtaining IP and DNS and I have also entered the numbers on my own. Maybe I’m putting in the wrong numbers. I got them from my Macbook Pro’s Network preferences for my internet connection.
Also, my Laptop can connect to the internet. Also, the Laptop can to connect with DHCP, but my router seems only able to connect via PPPoE. I have tried resetting everything. I have moved my Wii upstairs be closer. My broadcast is set to 11. WEP Security is off. MAC is off. Help!!

Is it possible to use a Windows XP machine as a conventional (POTS/PSTN/FXS) phone through the modem? That is, not as a VOIP phone but a landline phone.
It works as a fax modem (I just tested it) – does this mean it will work as a voice modem too?
