As I have recently asked questions about modems for my xbox. Apparently I haven’t given enough information. SO here i go

My computer downstairs is connected to an Arris touchstone telephony modem. This arris modem unfortunetly only has one ethernet jack in the back of it, so i can’t play xbox and be on the computer at the same time. I want to move my xbox into my room “which is upstairs” so the 100ft ethernet cord is out of the question. I need to purchase a wireless router for my computer downstairs ” i think”. If i have a wireless router downstairs, do i have to get comcast to come and install it? And when i get this wireless router do i have to get a wireless modem also for my room so that it can connect to the wireless router downstairs at the computer? I really need help with this so i can use my xbox in my room very soon. I need suggestions on which wireless routers and modems to buy, not too expensive but run fast and have a good mbps rate.

AND PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY IS IT DSL? OR CABLE…MY INTERNET PROVIDER IS COMCAST CABLE, SO IF THAT HELPS AT ALL. THEN YEAH.

Okay so we have a computer in this room, my friend is over and i plugged a connection cable from his laptop into the router, but the internet isnt working on his laptop?! how to i turn the internet on for his laptop. PS: were both in the same room, i have internet but he cant get it on his laptop

I’m moving to a house with CAT5 drops in every room. I saw in the garage a box with several cables, each labeled with a different room’s name. How can I best take advantage of this? Do I need to get a special router to plug in each room’s cable? Do I need a special adaptor to connect to the CAT5 in each room? Can I go ahead and order a normal DSL or cable ISP, or do I need special service. Sorry for being such a newb.

How do I extend my ethernet wire to another room? I want to use my xbox in my room but the router’s ethernet wire doesn’t really go far. But I have several ethernet wires, is it possible to connect them all together and how?
