I am a new Xbox 360 user. I want to hook my 360 up to the internet so i can connect to xbox live. the problem is, my computer and modem and router are in the other room. is there a way to connect the 360 to the internet with the ethernet cable (without purchasing the expensive wireless adapter)? thanks for your help.

the computer connected now is using a usb modem and i have a router to hook up the other one. i took cat5 ethernet wires and connected the router to the browser, then i connected the router to the other computer, but i still cant get access to the internet. do i have to change some settings on the other computer or something.
the connection is high speed cable and im trying to get it so that both computers will have internet, but someone told me i couldnt do that.

Do I have to contact the telephone company or do I have to contact a technician?
And I also want to connect from the ADSL socket to my Xbox 360, do I just get the ordinary ethernet cable?

I’m looking to have an ethernet port (run a cord from my laptop to the wall) so I can get the internet in another room. I was wondering if it’s possible to run a cord from the home PC through the wall to another room. I currently have no idea how to do this. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

i’m trying to figure out how to run internet upstairs.. I know I need a router and what else? I think I need to run a cat5 But unsure. Can anyone give advice?

I have a router in my brothers room. I am running a ethernet cord from my room into his so I can have internet access. Is there something I can get for my computer so I do not have to run the cord.

Me and my family are going on vacation, and the place we stay at has an ethernet cable in the kitchen area. I was wondering if I bring our router, could I plug it in to the cable it gives us and I have a wireless connection? It would mostly be used for my iPod and laptop, and my dads laptop, considering they get Internet from wireless ports. I was just thinking, would this work or should I just scan as far as our balcony can see?

I would like to use an older computer to build my own PVR/DVR, and house it in the basement. My house is wired with CAT5, so I maybe able use that somehow.

The router is connected to my normal computer to get the internet.

But how do I get the internet connection to get to my other room?

I have a cat5e cable run from a classroom to a main switch room. The distance is roughly 230 feet. Would the distance have any affect on connectivity? We currently experience many slow connections. Let me know what you think. I would appreciate any ideas or opinions.

But, the problem is my room away from more than 75 mts from his room i already connected a Cat 5e cable but is not working at all even not green light from back of the NIC adapter. in this case how can i connect to my computer, is there any device for extenting the cable over 100 mts.?

Other than calling an electrician in, I need your help in resolving this.I am trying to pull CAT5e cable myself with the help of relatives.
Need to know the rules in measuring the length of cable required from a basement to the 2nd floor.
I can’t recall what the mathematical estimation is to figure this out.
Ex., let’s say you have Room A with dimension L (A) x W (A), and Room B with dimensions L(B) x W (B), and distance between each floor is 10 feet.
I want to be able to move the cable around anywhere in the perimeter of ONLY Room B. Room A is fixed, where cable will start the run.
How much cable will be needed to run from Room A to Room B (anywhere within)?I would like to have a 25% growth for cable plus any loop arounds – like going around vent systems, crossing over other electrical wires.
I think there was a formula (which i can’t remember) where you take the perimeter of the room, multiply it by 25%, then add the # of feet per each floor for the vertical runs. Can u pls help?

I have a belkin n wireless router model F5D8236 and wanted to set up a wireless network from my ethernet port. I know that it is possible, because other people in the dorm have set up ones in their rooms, but I am not having any luck. I have tried logging into the router and enabling it as an access point, but no matter what i do, when I try to connect to the network i create with it, the connection times out!

more info: my school network requires a name and password to go online, but when I set up a pppoe instead of dynamic, it says it is no longer connected to the internet! also, whenever I change the router’s ip when setting it up as an access point, i can’t connect to the router through this new IP, I always end up having to reset the whole device and start over. I know that there are several websites out there that say they can remedy this problem, but It never helps! I follow everything step by step, and nothing works.

This old server room is very noisy and gets very hot and does not have space to grow, The new server room alone is costing $50000 for the air conditioning and power configuration alone. Our DSL line is a 10 Mb high-speed internet connection, We have 12 servers, of which you only see 8 servers here. The other servers are in other locations due to lack of space. There are 3 Mac servers, and the other 9 are Dell brand running Windows 2003 servers. They run specialized functions such as providing DNS, DHCP, print server, file server, mail server, data-backup, data base server, Mac Services, web server, ad/domain controller & ad backup, restore images. In addition, we are installing a wireless controller and new WAP access points to cover 6 floors and gigabyte network switches, with a total cost of over $150000 so it is not cheap.
