Ethernet cable question – not very savvy about this?

I need someone with good knowledge of Ethernet cables to give the green light to buy this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cat5e-RJ45-Ethernet-Network-Cable/dp/B000IAJHQ0/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204309817&sr=8-3

Will this type of cable work with my Belkin Wireless G-Plus router? I mean, if I connect my PC directly to the router using this ethernet cable, I and everyone else connected to the router will be able to connect to the internet with no problems? I need to ask this because upon searching for cables I discovered there are different types like “crossover” and such.

Other recommendations are welcome also.

Thanks very much
Tony

Question about Passive PoE (Power over ethernet) – WRT54G + Biquad dish & Question about AMPs?

Hi,

Im planning on building a biquad dish along with a wrt54g router mounted outside and powered by Passive PoE.

Im wondering, with passive PoE, if i input 12V, will the device receive the full 12v over lets say 10 metres of RJ45 Cat5e Patch cable? Can i use RJ45 Cat5e patch cable without a problem? If not what type of ethernet network cable would you recommend?

Also, while im here, if the router requires 1AMP, if i install a 80mm fan which requires 0.09AMPs, do i need a power adapter/cable which will povide 1.09amps or will 1amp be fine?

O, about amps, what kind of amps can Passive PoE carry?

Thanks
-David

xbox system link question…?

okay, so i have a cat5 patch ethernet cable, a cat5 ethernet cable that says nothing about its type on it so i assume its patch, a cat5e cable which i also assume is patch because it says nothing on it, and a router. I am trying to system link two xboxes (original). could i use a cable i have to directly connect without a router or would i have to use a router for this because they are patch cables? note that one is a cat5e and the others are cat5.
also, would using a router instead of connecting directly be a slower connection/transfer rate?

Money question about Amazon.com?

I bought a 100 ft Cat5 Cat5e RJ45 Patch ethernet cable, 2 wireless xbox 360 controllers, and 2 rechargeable battery packs for the controllers. I ordered all this for like $75. Now the price regularly should be like $125+. So is it too good to be true or did I make a good deal?

Ethernet Question?

I want to run an Ethernet cable from my living room to my xbox360 in my bedroom and the easiest and most eye appealing way is to go through the attic. The questions I have are

1. Is cat6 a good enough cable to go with?
2. Also what kind of cable type would work best?
3. It will be in a attic so would heat/cold make a difference?
4. It will have to run close to/cross some electrical wire so will that mess with the connection?
5. Any other ways to do this? (want to spend less than $70)
6. Do they make connectors so you could connect to separate cables together?

Thanks!
Building Codes aside can you buy insulation/shields separately and then put it on a standard cable? I already have some Cat6 cable that is not plenum.
#2. means like Plenum cables, insulated etc.

networking question on downloading speeds, any of u gurus out there?

im not too good at networks so if this is a stupid question … sry :D
ok.. i got a 3meg dsl connection and speed test.net said i get around 2.8-3 megs..
but my download speeds are around 350kb/s…????
ive got a good system, higher end cables like cat6 instead of cat5e..
SOO i MUST be missing some obvious thing? at first i thought well maybe theyre servers slow? but i added another download to the mix and it basicaly devided the 350kbs between the two downloads
(different server downloads)
lol thanks guys :D
i didnt know they had it in bits instead of bytes :D
i read abreviation for megs and thought megabyte lol
i KNEW it had to be some little stupid thing i overlooked :D
thnx ALLOT guys :D

Telecommunication Question?

Would a computer be considered an telecommunication device? Thank you

Samsung 8000 LED question (ethernet port/adapter)?

I have some conflicting info whether or not I can hard wire internet to an 8000 series LED. The ethernet port on the back of the TV requires an adapter, and after talking to an associate they looked at the “guts” that come from one of their display models, and there was no ethernet LAN adapter. I’m not going wireless either, have to go hard wire because that’s how I set up my wiring.
Here’s where the conflicting info comes in, the quick hookup guide shows how to hardwire the internet source to the TV and it shows a cat6 line going to what’s called “LAN adapter” and then in parentheses it says “supplied” Can anyone confirm that a new TV will have it?

Question about CAT5 wiring?

I’ve had two of my CAT5 lines suddenly start misbehaving. They’ve worked fine for years. Both the lines are in one room and, now, neither one of them will hold a stable connection to my switch when I attempt to connect via my mini-tower PC. It connects and drops every few seconds.

Here are the weird details, though:

(1) I have swapped out the network card. No dice.

(2) When connected to any other drop in the house (about six locations), it connects just fine. I’ve even left the PC in place and strung a 20ft cable to another drop; it works just fine.

(3) I have two laptop PCs, they both connect to the two drops just fine.

(4) I’ve tried every combination of patch cables under the sun. No dice.

The only thing that I have * not * done is to re-punch the connections both at the face plate and on the patch panel. I figured if they worked for the laptops, they should work for anything else.

Could something in a laptop network card be more forgiving?

I also know that twisted pairs need to retain their original twist as much as possible in order to maintain a stable connection. But, the original network card was 10mbps (hardly blazing speed) and one of the laptops is 100mbps. Why would the 100 work and the 10 not work?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry. I didn’t want to bog down the initial question with a bunch of stuff. The original network card in the minitower was a 10 mbps. It was replaced with a brand-new 100 mbps card. I then swapped it back and forth again in my troubleshooting. When I found it worked on another drop, I just left the 100 mbps one in there.

The switch is brand-new as well. Matter of fact, that’s when the trouble started. I had a ratty, old Synoptics hub that worked just peachy, but was 10 mbps and as loud as a jet. The new switch is quiet. I even temporarily swapped it back out for the hub and * still * the two original drops would not work.
I’ve replaced the cables between the pc and the wall and the patch panel and the swtich.

Ok so one comp in my house has internet. I have no wifi. I also have a laptop. question??

I know i can get wifi hooked up but I tried it once and didnt work and was expensive. I just went to best buy and bought a CAT6 premium network cable. I was told to plug it into my laptop and into the modem. Problem is, when I got home there was no extra space in the modem. Or in the back of the computer. There is one space for this size cable in the modem but its occupied by a cable that goes to the back of the computer. Im not sure where I should put the cable. please help thanks in advance

Question about CAT5 connection!?

So I have several CAT5 connectors in my house all wired and everything, they were in my house when I moved in, but my question is to use the CAT5 connection do you need to run a router to the cat 5 to make them work? Because I’ve tried to just connect my laptop directly to wall from the cat 5 and it doesn’t work!

NOTE: I have internet connection I have my modem plugged into the wall giving it power, the ethernet cable from desktop to modem, and the phone line from the wall to the modem. This is setup in a different room, so I want to know if I can directly plug my laptop into the wall in my bedroom that has a cat 5 or will i need a router in my room as well in order to use the cat 5 connection that comes outta the wall? Like will I need to connect the router to the cat 5? Or should the CAT5 just work on its own?

So what will I need to do to be able to use my CAT 5 connections?

Ethernet Network Question?

I am planning on wiring my house with cat6 cable. I have a time capsule as the router, and a TWC cable modem, and an airport express as an extender. I heard if you wire your house in cat6, you have to wire everything in cat6, or it only makes it as good as the worst thing you wired, such as a patch panel, and wall jacks, etc.

My question is, are the ports on the back of the time capsule cat6? The airport express? Also, are the ports gigabit? Is 10/100 Base-T gigabit?

Thanks
