How to set up a small Callback system at home through PSTN only & no VoIP?

Hello all,
What hardware/software is required to set up a home call-back system with the following scenario:
1. I call my home land telephone xxx
2. the callback system will check the incoming Caller ID
3. if the caller is me (yyy), then, system will disconnect the line, and call back (yyy)
4. once I (yyy) pick up, the home callback system will request termination number zzz.
5. I will dial the termination number zzz
6. then the system dials zzz, while I’m waiting on the same line.
7. finally the system connects me (yyy) with termination (zzz)

notes:
A. only my home telephone will be charged all the time with this system.
B. I have Caller ID and group calling features activated at home phone.
C. No VoIP at all for the time being. only PSTN/PBX & my home phone.
D. I prefere a stand alone device that does this function if possible. If not, then a PC + cards+ software is ok

Thank you for spending your time trying to figure this out!

How do people spoof caller ID on a PSTN line?

People widely claim that a caller ID can be spoofed on a regular telephone line (PSTN) using some kind of technology or using the Asterisk open-source PBX. I don’t understand, how could any FXO device, even an Asterisk FXO card or anything else, spoof a caller ID on a regular telephone line? What is the signalling interface or protocol to do so? I thought that the caller ID is always set by the telephone company unless the user has some kind of special access to the call origination process. I know that Caller ID is communicated *to* a PSTN call *recipient* during the ringing process in-between the first and second rings, but for the process to *make* a call from a telephone, the only thing I know of is tone or pulse dialing, not some advanced method to make the phone company generate a different caller ID.

(Note: I’m not talking about third-party/online intermediary calling services that allow spoofing, but rather how people do it directly from subscriber equipment.)

How is this done?

What’s in a PSTN?

What’s exactly in a PSTN. What is is made up of? What are some of the equipment used in a PSTN? I have seen those exchange buildings, those dull (and sometimes unamed) concrete buildings with very few windows, if any. Yet, they are able to connect to netwoks all over the world. Just pick up any land line and dial the country code, followed by the area code, then number (of course do watch your next telephone bill). All this was before the advent of the Internet and VoIP.

Could anyone tell me which companies produce industrial grade PSTN equipment (preferbaly 1980s and early 1990s)? I hope some Telecom experts can answer this question.
Suren,

What I meant was an explanation of how it works. Anyway, cooladi gave a very comprehensive answer. Thanks. Keep those answers flowing!
Oh, and where can I obtain a copy of the ITU technical standards? Is it free?

Why mobile phones do not have dial-tone, we dont hear dial-tone & where as PSTN phones have dial-tone?

Why mobile phones do not have dial-tone, we dont hear dial-tone & where as PSTN phones have dial-tone?
If you pick up a PSTN/Landline phone you hear a dial-tone but you don’t notice anything like this when it comes to mobile phones.
Please enlighten.

What is the cheapest way to setup voip so that I can receive calls from my voip line but dial out through pstn

Basically, I just want to be able to receive calls on my voip line that are redirected from my mobile, but dial out through my landline, so that I can use up my monthly minutes, unless anyone can recommend me a cheap voip, pay monthly service.

Is it possible to receive incoming calls on a virtual # on the iPhone via VoIP. Not going through any PSTN?

When i receive a call to my toll free or any other virtual phone number i want it to be connected to my iphone via VoIP with a fixed number. right now i use VoIP for outgoing calls with fring skype and a SIP provider. I love the cheap rates but the incoming calls don’t get transfered to phone. So i was wondering if i can just receive calls with another number in my area code or toll free and have it forward to my accounts. Any feedback on this would be great. If anyone has done anything like this before i would like to hear it.

I need software which receives VOIP call (SIP) and forwards to PSTN using PC modem.?

adsl, pstn, broadband, modems, computers internet?

basically i want broadband upstairs. heres a pic of what the situation is, please have a look…

i’m not sure if the phone extension socket upstairs would be connected to the broadband side of things but would i be able to stick a wire from the adsl filter upstairs straight into the computer via an rj11 or would that have to go through a modem before going into the computer’s ethernet soket??? please help,

What happened to Free PC to PSTN calls(VOIP)?

From the early 2000s to 2006 they’ve had different services that offered free PC to PSTN calls, as long as they were in the United States or Canada(1 Country code). For a while I was using a program called AdCalls, then I went on to Skype, then I heard that a Skype clone was made that allowed free Calls, Gizmodo. But all of them charge/Limit now. There is iCall but they limit you to only 5 minutes, when they use to allow unlimited minutes.

Is it the Phone Companies that put a stop to all of this?
If you can still do free calls, then are there any programs that you could point me to?

can a normal pstn line support concurrent calling with multiple handsets?(remember with only one line)?

if yes, kindly provide some pointers on how this could be implemented.

Voice (PSTN) to VoIP conversation for Cisco.?

Can I plug a FXO module directly from the wall PSTN in a 2600XM with CCME and use a Cisco phone and dial-out and receive calls or is a gateway required like Cisco ATA 186? I’m not looking into PBX, I’m not looking into PBX in a flash, etc – I just want a straight through connection – no voicemail – and ideally use one router for it all. If I can’t plug it into one router, can I use a gateway easily to CCME for the 2600? Thanks. Please excuse, I am new to this.

PSTN to VoIP, is it possible?

I am just curious about this.

I have a PSTN line (the very simple phone line). It has no trunks, no caller id, no other special features. Its just a simple phone line.

My question is, if I buy a Cisco SPA400 and a Cisco SPA9000, would i be able to make local voip lines that can be routed to my current PSTN service? Will I be able to create my own trunklines?
AFAIK, Cisco SPA400 has 4 fxo ports, two is used to connect to the PSTN line
