I have a 50 ft cat 6 ethernet cord that im going to run through my house, connect to a waterproof 50ft cat 5 cable, the run it through my yard to my shack in the back(cant get wifi out there)
Will this work?
And should I get a Cat6 or cat5 coupler?

Hey so I have one of those big, desktop computers with windows xp, and a laptop with windows xp.
The desktop doesn’t have a wifi card or anything, and i dont want to pay for one. I’ve been trying to share my laptop’s wireless connection (and yes i checked the box to share it), and i says connected on both. But when i open internet explorer on the desktop, it says that it can’t find the server. I also reset the winsock stuff, and im pretty stumped with ip stuff.

P.S. I am using a crossover ethernet cable.
I have my wireless adapter shared and both the computers have all the exact same setiings, except that the ip address for the desktop is:
192.168.0.1
laptop:
192.168.0.2
otherwise some conflict happens.
i know adapters are cheap but i dont get an allowance.

I have Earthlink DSL that uses PPPoE. My VOIP Provider sent me the Grandstream HandyTone 502. I’ve configured that device to recognize my PPPoE settings. I’ve hooked everything back up but internet not working and neither is the phone. I’ve connected using the guidelines listed in the attached link. Any help? I’ve been told to make my DSL modem a bridge but I’m not even sure what that means. Please help!

I recently recieved a Linksys Wireless B Router (Yes, It’s old but It works as out internet is only 2.5mbps) I configured it, set up the PPPoE connection, and everything worked fine. On both the hard wired computer and the wireless computer I was getting 2.5mbps. Then, the next day, the wireless computer would only get .7mbps and i would have to re-connect every few hours. Now, the only way I can get back my full speed is to do a factory reset every day. Why? Is there anything I am doing wrong. The firmware is updated to the newest version and I have “Very Good” Signal Strength. Thank You!

BTW we have DSL connected through PPPoE

my xbox live connection is not working.. i am on a wireless network and am using the xbox 360 wireless network adapter. the light on the back of the adapter is red, not blinking, just a steady red, or sometimes it doesnt light up at all. is that bad?.
about my connection: its a password protected connection and im not sure how to access this. would i go to the PPPoE thing and put in my password and router name? also i need help on a few words:
what are the DNS server, and for PPPoE what would be my user name, password, and service name? like lets say my router name is XBOX, would that be the seervice name or username? and if the password to get connected to the internet was XBOX1234, would i put that under the password part of PPPoE

My computer says I am connected to my linksys but I can’t actually connect to the internet through int. explorer or firefox. My boyfriend’s computer works just fine. I can connect no prob at my parents house and even when I was in Ireland. Didn’t need to change my settings or anything. Tried turning my firewall off, that didn’t work. It says I’m connected at full bars, it used to work no problem, and works everwhere else, though I’ve only tried secured networks. However, I had no problems on my unsecured network a couple weeks ago, and my boyfriend connects no problem. Tried connecting straight into the thing as wired even. No internet. Help! Everyone I ask is baffled.

I am using Windows Vista. I have been having this problem for 2 weeks. ran the winsock jazz first thing. Did an ipconfig/release as admin but can’t do a config/renew.
apparently when i do the ipconfig/all or whatever I have no gateway ip address. help!

Ok im duel booting with windows and Suse Linux 10.3 , and i got my internet to work fine on windows but, heres my problem on Linux.

Ok i have Att.net for my internet, ( hopefully switching soon ) and i connect like this. First i connect to my wireless router, ( with a wep encryption) then att.net ( PPPOE ). But on linux, i have NO clue how to get this to work. P.S At@t SUCKS!!! so they dont have any linux support,

When i start my xp pro 5.1 computer my internet doest work i have looked at thousands of blog’s /posts trying to find my answer but i cant find a fix i have tried to release and renew my ip checked settings ect. but no fix yet!!!!!!. help. i think i have a few missing entrys in my registry but i cant find a winsock.exe program that works please help i am in need.

I just got a used Dell Latitude & Im trying to browse the web through a unsecured network & Im finding that it connects to the network but I cant browse the web.I keep getting a server not found message.However when I connect to this other unsecured network I can browse the web fine. There is another unsecured network that Im having the same problem with.
So I have already ran the Winsock repair program but now Im reading it could be a problem with DNS.I have no clue what DNS is or how to fix a DNS problem.I know that when I try to repair a network connection(by right clicking & clicking on repair) it always says cannot do something concerning the DNS.
How do I fix this? These other wireless networks have more bars than the one I am using now & Im beyond frustrated!

Internet Explorer isnt wanting to work right!?!?!?!?!!?

I have wireless internet, but IE will not work correctly!!!

It has been extremely slow, and most pages come up ” internet explorer cannot display the webpage” etc.

When putting in a site address (cnn.com, etc.) sometimes search results come up saying the address cannot be found or Sometimes, I have to refresh the page more than 3 times just to sign into sites!

I have ran 3 different programs : malware, spyware, etc. (ccleaner, malwarebytes malware remover, etc. )(and I have had microsoft security essentials for over a month!) And removed 1 backdoor.bot, but that was it and the IE problems are happening on 2 different laptops –

I have reset the winsock, too, via CMD as administrator….I tried turning off my security programs and firewalls, that didn’t help…Even updated my shockwave player to 10.1, but no help…

And When I try to diagnose my internet explorer 8 problems, its says there is none…even microsoft fix it didnt find anything…

Our main desktop computer is online via a dsl box, and it works fine…But just to make sure we rebooted our dsl, and it didnt help at all!!!
The wireless internet connection strength is 5 out of 5 bars!

The pages are even starting to freeze now, and saying ‘not responding, even though the signal strength is as high as it can be!!!

What could it be?!?!!?

I have a Mac and Gateway laptops hooked up wirelessly to a Linksys router. They both connect no problem to the internet. I also have an old Dell that I put a PCI adapter into so that it can connect as well but I am having lots of problems with it. I have older and less powerful Dells that I was able to put PCI adapters into and hook up to the internet without problems. I have tried everything with this one to get it to work. I have tried power cycling the modem, changing channels on the router, restarting the router, checking to see if my Dell has an IP address (which it does and it’s 192.168.1.1), checking for firewall and antivirus conflicts, going to cmd and using the “netsh winsock reset” command… Nothing works. Sometime the connection fluctuates between “limited or no connectivity”, “low signal”, and “excellent signal”. When I open up Firefox or Internet Explorer, it says, “Page not found”, regardless of the signal status. Can anyone please help?

Netgear DG834GT Super Wireless ADSL router has gone faulty dont know whats happened it, its making a low pitch squeeling sound and isnt being recognised in wireless or ethernet port tried restarting it but lights just go crazy, hasnt had a firmware upgrade either

A few days ago while uninstalling a trial version of a software (autodesk inventor 2010) someone pulled on the wire of my computer and it shut down. when i restarted i realized that my xp theme was gone, so i followed these steps to get it back:

find “themes”, right click “properties”

under startup type click “automatic” then click “start” and “ok”[/B]

then after a few minutes, while i was browsing i got this erorr message:

i couldn’t open anything that worked through the network including internet (i have a pair to pair network and the internet on this computer works through a gateway). when i tried to repair the network connection igot a message that my ip adress can not be renewed. i tried the winsock solution but it didn’t work. then i did a restore and my system worked fine until i restarted, then i got the same problem. so i did another restore and again it worked fine intil i had to restart my computer again. i did this over and over again. now i can’t do any restores anymore and i can’t reverse my last restore. what else can i do?

i have my computer hooked up with the eathernet cable to my xbox but when i try to make a xbox account to play halo 2 i get this message ”

Internet problems please help 10 pts!?

im having problems with our internet on my desktop and my laptop(laptop uses a router)…on both my desktop and laptop it has internet problems we have dsl and i have a router so i can use my laptop around the house..whenever i try to connect to the internet it will but sometimes when i do a search or go to a page it just pops up with a white back ground and alot of script..sometimes it says error host not available..sometimes it says xml error..most of the time random script pops up or it just says done with a blank white screen when tryin to access any web page..the internet works normal around 1/2 the time…i have run winsock and i also have anti virus anti spyware and anti malware programs on my computers..i have tryed resetting the dsl box and router..idk what to do…some1 told me to download highjack this..im not sure how to work that application tho..please any help and advice is greatly appreciated..please be as thorough as u can bc this is a huge problem for me..than

I am having big problems with my PC. recently it auto downloaded a window update and instaled then restarted as usual. But then i could not get on the internet. Connects to wireless modem no problem but just cant acess the Net. When i do a check i get a message

” Error attempting to validate the winsock providers 2″

“Not all base provider entries could be founf in the winsock catalog. A rest is needed”

Now. i have gone through the winsock reset things using command prompt from advice found on a few tech sites. but it does nothing. I resorted to system restore and after that everything was fine. but the computer seems to download and install the windows update again. and again the Net stops working giving the same error message. This has happened about 6 times now. and have to run system restore everyday!!

any help or solution would be great.

some spywere nocked the winsock program, and i can’t get it back without reinstalling win, and i don’t want to do that, is there any way else i can do that?

In my network settings the DHCP is not enabled, and I need to turn it on but i don’t know where to configure it, as it doesn’t let me in that window. In that window it gives me no options to change anything it just shows me information. I need to know where I can go to configure DHCP settings and enable/disable it. Please help
