Ok, here are all the details i can imagine would be relevant.

I have the Linksys WRT54GS wireless router set up with the CAT5 network cable going to the “internet” port from my DSL modem. I have another length of CAT5 going from the “1″ port to the ethernet port on my desktop computer. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate. I can get into my router configuration and set up my wireless network. When I do this, my laptop sees the network, gets an IP address and connects to the wireless network but I have no internet connectivity for either my desktop or my laptop. I know they are on the same network because I can use the remote desktop feature on my laptop to log in to my desktop (the whole reason i started this project). Unfortunately it isnt doing me any good because I cant connect to the internet. When run the cable directly from the modem to the ethernet port on the desktop (eliminating the router completely) it works just fine, evidenced by the fact i’m able to post this. Help!

I can only upload under 100kb images but my own image is much more than that and it doesn’t upload. Is it because of ADSL which has assymetric upload and download rates? Is there any way to do it?

keeps freezing up. does anyone know how i can fix this problem???

I have D-Link ADSL Modem and works fine for more than two months, suddenly i cannot connect to the internet, i checked the modem status there upstream and downstream kbps is ok.
ISP settings remains the same, my subscription is not yet expired, then even i reset the modem many times, I still have no connection…

Anybody here can help this problem??

We are doing networking for new office and electrical work also.The electrical engineer want to put both the Cat5 cable & electrical cables together in one box.Is there any problem if we put them together?

(Vista) It is feed through the computer via an ethernet cable. The other computers are XP and used to get a signal from here not great but ok. They send more pkts than they receive. Its something simple because. DHCP fine /ping 192.161.1.1 ok all IP set to automatic and Window wireless auto config on the XP. Shared activated

I nicked the outdoors broadband cable that runs to this computer while trimming some hedges. The cut isn’t too deep or big, but I did cut through the top two insulation wrappings and I think i can see little bit of the metal beneath. For now I have wrapped the nick tightly with electrical tape. I haven’t noticed any change in Internet speed.

I suppose a supplemental question would be can they splice around the nick or do they have to replace the whole cable.

I`m having a weird problem with my adsl line.It works fine when I`m not on the phone.The minute I receive a call the connection(ADSL) will be lost. I only get reconnected when I change filters.I have about five filters that I recycle through. I have the ADSL nation XF 1e, Fujitsu excelsior FDX100-UK filters.BT came to check the line and found no problem with it. However, I could sometimes hear the modem dialling out on the phone line. I really do not know what else to do. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I used the modem with my Broadband connection for 6 months and now it shows problem. When switched on, the three LEDs blinks (link LED yellow, Data LED green, PC/USB LED red) continuously for hours. Once I took that to BSNL Broadband office and they done something to that privately in a room and it worked well for next 3 months. I found the problem again and need a solution. What the problem is???

my friends , I have ADSL router connected to a LAN switch and the LAN switch is connceted to 8 PCs , and the internet connetion and browseing are so slow , I need help to configure my PCs on LAN and ADSL , the opration systems are Windows XP Pro

I am able to connect to the net with other computers on my networkl but my laptop can not. I have tried to connect via wireless and CAT5 and neither is working. I am running xp. I have not deleted anythinig do I dont think it is a socket error.

Just to clear up some issues. I do not have any credit card, and if I have I don’t want to buy this books only to find the solution for this problem (or worse not to find anything related to this). I am not rich (I live in Serbia) and for me 100$ is big amount of money.

Hey everybody, i have a problem with my internet, its supposed to be 20 M/bs per second but the max i get is 150kb/s…i have no idea why its going this slow, please help.

Im getting 300-500 ping and ive used every thing ccleaner,error check, avg virus software, spybot search and destroy,disk defragmenter, disk cleanup, windows defender, and i have my windows firewall on. My computer has been cleaned every way and still crappy ping someone help me. This is my laptop that i use with my cat5e cable connected to my wireless router when playing games i only use the wireless when surfing.The online used to be not this bad i could get at least 100 ping if not better but not any more.

Kindly explain the phenomenon and also suggest methods to improve download speeds.

I have an SMC Barricade SMC7904bra2 ADSL modem that has an internal Router too. I want to connect 2 PC’s to it and i want it connects automatically to the internet but i am not able to do so and instead i have made a virtual network connection in one of my PC’s and i have to connect it manually and when it is connected the other one is not able to connect to the internet. what shall i do and what the configuration should be? thanks

I have a Black 60 GB EEE PC with 2GB Ram and Wireless Capabilities.
I have a linksys router, It is connected to my internet modem.

This is not a problem with the router itself , rather a pricing issue , let me explain. It’s a little long but I need opinions/advice.

Earlier today I went to PC World shop looking for a Cat5 ethernet cable for my student accommodation apartment , the only cable they had in the store was Cat6 and on the box it says that it’s 5 times as powerful as a Cat5 , so I was waiting for an employee to be free so I could ask them whether it would be OK to use in the apartment (The Student accommodation said I required a Cat5 cable so I wasn’t sure about Cat6)….

Anyway , I got tired of waiting and called a guy I know who knew about these things and he told me he had a Cat5 cable spare at home he’d sell he for 10euro less , so I said that’s grand and he said he’d come over later to see if the cable is ok for it…

He came over to the apartment later and the Cat5 cable was ok but he had brought over a a “spare” wireless broadband router he said I could buy instead if I preferred wireless. I much preferred a wireless router because I hate cables anyway he said he bought it in March for €120 , and that he would sell it to me for €80 now , so I believed him and said Ok and I bought it and it worked and everything was grand.

20 minutes after he left the apartment I looked up the product on the Internet and on 4 separate websites the average price for it was €30 to €35.

That’s the exact router I bought and in this one on PC World , the same store my friend said he bought it from for €120 , it costs about £32.

My main question is , has this product EVER cost anywhere near €120 , preferably around March , or has he screwed me over for €80???

I called him and told him I’d seen the same thing on different websites for about 30 euro and he said he didn’t rip me off and that he swore on his dead Mothers grave he got it for €120 in PC World , I’m asking is that even possible or is he just lying through his arse to cover for himself?

I’ve known him for 3 years in College so yes I admit I was gullible enough to trust him before checking the price.

Advice or Opinion please?

Just got an ASUS RT-N13u Wireless N Router. It’s been great so far, however, except on this problem I found. Here is the situation:

I connected two PC’s on LAN Port 1 and 2.

PC1 @LAN PORT 1 – uses the ethernet cable that came with the package – about 1m of length (Does anyone know if its a CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6?)

PC2 @LAN PORT 2 – uses a 5M CAT5E patch cord.

The problem is when I turn on PC2, it never connects thru the router – no lights at all, no internet access either – but the wireless, other ports are working. I have to REPLUG/RECONNECT it again so it will work. I really find it very strange since it perfectly works with LAN PORT 1 and 4 without hiccups.

To make the story much more complicated, I tried using the ethernet cable that came with the package @ PC2 – to my surprise, all ports WORKED. Is the router faulty? Or is it ethernet cable? IP conflict? What type of cable should I use (CAT5, CAT5E, CAT6)? I’m leaning towards the idea that the ethernet cable is faulty but want to hear from experts prior to sending it back.
