hey guys. i have an annoying sister which i have blocked of th internet because of downloading movies non stop. but now she wont get of the ethernet. how can i block her off the ethernet??

There are no lights flashing, orange or otherwise. Also, when I connect the ethernet cable, no network connection registers in Network Connections. I have checked Device Manager, and no yellow exclamation marks appear next to the Wan miniport device, though this device is only listed when I view the hidden devices. Under Network Adapters, there is only the Netgear Usb Network Adapter that I have been using, nothing else.

I have to re-install the operating system of a HP Vectra VL400.. ( very old system). Unfortunately, because it really outdated the restore disks are lost. The computer is for a shop that only requires to send reqular emails to a client server using an ethernet port. After re-installing XP will i still be able to use the onboard ethernet port without installing the drivers?

1.Do I just take out the one that’s already in?

2.Or Do I just plug in the ethernet cord to the back of my computer(not the moniter)

My sister is using up a lot of bandwidth (we have 2mbps upgrading soon) on the computer resulting in lag on my xbox live games. I want to limit her to about 400kbps, i am admin on everything ? How do i do this ? I have a Dynamode RADSL-C4W-EG, she is ethernet port 2. I am number 1. Incase thats relevant =)

we are a small business and every now and then, the internet connection goes down for some reason, i wonder if i have a wiresless moden with usb, i can somehow connect to the router or to a pc that has a router and get the internet connection on another machine that is connected with a cat5 cable to the router. Will it work ?

I am having ADSL Router with a USB and LAN port.The router is having an ip 192.168.1.1When on LAN port I am able to access the router as I am able to ping the router ip.But when I connect the router with USB port I am not able to ping it.

I have been able to set up port 8080 with a cable and disk ip. The broadband wireless provider claims not to be blocking any ports, but I can not find an open port. The router is a Linksys WRK54G. The firewall is open to this port. Any suggestions?

I have a ADSL Modem that doesn’t connect to my Desktop PC only to my Laptop I think the problem is in my usb Ports can I use a USB to PS/2 Converter to connect the modem.

How do I connect the cables? What else do I need to do to setup a network? I want one of my desktops to act as a server.

The apartment that I live in does not have an Ethernet outlet, only a phone jack. The landlord pays for our wireless Internet. Is there a cheaper alternative to catching the wireless signal than to buy the Xbox brand adaptor?

So the network goes down whenever a certain PC on the network is put to sleep or restarted. It may be happening with other PCs as well, but so far has been isolated to this one. This PC has been running for over a year and a half on this switch, a 24 port 10/100/1000 TrendNet switch, without a hitch up until a couple of weeks ago. This problem appeared out of the blue.

All Cat6 runs are tested and fully functional.

What happens, is any active connections suddenly “freeze” on the switch, and their corresponding LEDs become stuck in the on position, no more blinking. And all connections in the home are dropped.

I have it down to either a bad NIC (unlikely), or more likely a bad switch. I’m curious if a WOL setting could be causing this disturbance. Has anyone seen this before?
