Why mobile phones do not have dial-tone, we dont hear dial-tone & where as PSTN phones have dial-tone?
If you pick up a PSTN/Landline phone you hear a dial-tone but you don’t notice anything like this when it comes to mobile phones.
Please enlighten.

Looking for a pbx system that uses cell phones as extensions?
what im looking for is that when you call a land number it will give you a message such as ” You have reached the offices of such and such press 1 to Connect to Smith 2 to connect with Jones” But i want it to transfer to cell phones. I know it will take two or so phone lines but that’s ok… I don’t want a virtual number…I want it to use my analog number. Im searching pbx systems but i don’t even know what this feature would be called.
What do I need to do to make my home phones work with my new modem?
The modem my family has had for a while (which, I believe, we rent from Comcast) stopped working recently. My brother went out and bought a new one, but now our home phones don’t work. The new modem does not have a place to plug in a phone like the old one, so the phone is still connected (uselessly) to that one. The old one is a Touchstone Telephony Modem and the new, a Motorola Surfboard SB 5101. Is there any way to fix the phone dilemma without buying yet another modem? Any insight would be appreciated.
Know about IP phones??
I am working in technology this year……still learning. Does anyone know when you have a brand new ip phone straight out of the box, set it up on pc, how do I get an ip address to enter in the phone for the extension I want? When I enter an ip address, it says ip address conflict (guessing this one is already being used). I know that when you change phones, you have to reset it and enter the ip address then. I went to configure, services, ip telephony, ip terminals, nortel, ip term status tab, this is where I am stuck. Normally I write down ip # on ext I want, but don’t know it.

How do you interface Cisco IP phones with a traditional PSTN?
How do you interface/connect existing Cisco 7940/7960 phones with a traditional PSTN-type solution? (XO brings you the lines on a T1 but converts it to analog, i believe.)

What is the best software for recording calls made with VoIP phones in an office?
We have come across a situation where we would like to record some phone calls made in the workplace through our soft VoIP phones. Optimally, this software would be able to run on a computer connected to the same network without having to install anything on the server – however, I am not opposed to any solutions including the server.
We’re using Avaya VoIP phones that go directly into our network.
Can you split the line coming out of your voip device and attach two phones?
I need an additional handset for my voip phone. I am thinking about splitting the connection coming out of the voip device and attaching two phones. Does anyone know if that will work?
How reliable is the 911 service on VOIP phones?
I have recently got rid of my Embarq phone service at home and have switched to ITP VOIP which is cheaper and better. However, I have read a lot about how 911 service doesn’t always work well with VOIP. Can anybody with a VOIP phone service (eg. Vonage/ITP/Lingo/etc.) who has attempted to call 911 on it before tell me if it actually worked or not?
Does a small business need a PBX? Can’t we just use cell phones?
I am starting a small business with 2 partners. They want us to buy some kind of mini PBX for a business phone system. I say–no way. Can’t we just use cell phones? Who wants a desk phone these days? There must be a way to buy a plan where you can transfer phone calls to each other, and maybe even have an auto-attendant feature, right? If anyone has used cell phones instead of a PBX, I would love to know what you used and how well it worked. Thanks!
