Good day answerers,

I bought this 20Meter Cat5 (ethernet) cable

But i will no need the full length of the cable. I will used this cable daily.

My questions is, if the cable is wrapped up in a coil (as if i wrapped it around a 2L coke bottle) will it affect my inteernet speed/ transfer of data?

I remember hearing about resistance, and electromagnets when cords are wrapped like this.

Is it bad to have it wrapped up? ( I want it wrapped up so it can be out of the way in my home)

Could someone tell me a little about this major? What would I be doing as a career? I want to know if it is right for me.

I’m going to be doing some cat6 wiring in my house. I will be running 4 cat6 cables from my router to the different rooms. My question is, is it necessary to get these gang boxes or outlet boxes to put into the opening and then put the wall plate over it? Or is the wall plate enough? Which one is better than the other? and why?

My local phone company hooked up my outide phone line on my brand new house. the two lines that come into the house are Cat5e and end in the attic. the whole house is run with cat5e only. I don’t plan on having phone service just internet so I thought this setup was great because connecting the rj45 jacks is a piece of cake. but the modem qwest provided is for dsl and only has a telephone recepticle as a line in. So how do I wire the phone jack to be best for the dsl modem?
They provided me with a data number and there isn’t cable in my area
The two lines coming out of the phone box have 4 twisted pairs and say Cat5e on the jacket. And they end in the attic where it is easy to get to.

Cause I have 2 routers but not connected at the same time one is a Belkin 54g wireless G router range 400ft* and another is a Dlink N router range 1000FT* which one.

P.S. Dont tell me to buy another router

I want a home network which I want one computer to actually connect to the router and modem, and another computer upstairs to have wireless internet from the router via PCI wireless networking card (with antenna).

I was thinking Linksys WRT54G. Any better ideas? Also, is it worth paying $10-20 more for the WRT54GL or the WRT54GS or do these routers perform just as well as the standard 54G.

I’m currently attending college for a Cisco Networking Professional degree. Is this field ideal for someone who isn’t very computer savy? And is it a profession that’s worth going for?

Which one pays better, have more applications, demands and more areas to work into if needed?

I have a 360 Elite, and I want to connect it to the internet using the included ethernet cable that came with it. I have an Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem connected to my desktop PC, for my internet, also I have 1 phone line connected to that modem. My Xbox ethernet cable is within reach to my modem, computer, and Xbox. I also have an additional EQ-660R ASDL router (not in use). Is there anyway I could connect to Xbox Live, using the above mentioned things?

Also, if so could you please provide step-by-step instructions on how to?

2. Using TCPIP

First things first- I CAN connect to xbox live, but my NAT is moderate.

You have probably heard others say this before, but I MEAN it- I have tried everything to make it open.

I think this is because I have my xbox connected to my Acer netbook via ethernet cable. The netbook is then connected to the internet via wireless router (Linksys WRT160N). However, the linksys router is then connected to another router via ethernet, which my PC is also connected to (via LAN). If this is confusing, check out this flow chart:

I have…
- changed my TCP/UDP ports in port range forwarding and triggering (88-88, 3074-3074, etc.)
- allowed DMZ, MAC filtering, PPPoE
- chose an IP address outside of the DHCP
- looked up my netbook’s IP, default gateway and subnet mask, and my desktop’s IP, default gateway and subnet mask

Where should I go from here?!
Can anyone lend their expertise to this frustration so that this nightmare can finally end? It’s a task well worth 10 points!

How would you do this? I doubt this is the case, since all I have is McAfee
