do i need a gigabit DHCP server for a gigabit network?
I have a Linksys WRT-300N router and i will very soon be installing a CAT6 full house Ethernet system, full gigabit, the router works fast enough for all wireless devices in the house, so i don’t want to replace it. but the “Mud” panel or switch panel i’m buying is gigabit, however the router is only 10/100, and will be used as the DHCP server, will this limit my entire system to 10/100? or will it still do 10/100/1000 for gigabit devices connected into the unmanaged switch panel?
How much does it cost to install 10 network outlets in my office?

Connecting my D-link to a USTec prewire home network.?
I have just moved into a home that was prewired for a home network using Cat5e and a USTec home run center. All connections inculding phone, network and cable TV come to the UStec box. The bad part is the previous owner did not install the home network compoents in the UStec box. This should be easy enough. I thought I would put my own router and DSL modem in the box and just make the RJ45 connections on the cable, which I’ve done. The problem now seems to me that I can’t get a signal to the Modem. The phone section of the panel is configured with one inline and 8 pluges that are output lines; meaning that each one goes to phone in the house. When I pull the plug from an out port and plug my DSL modem I am expecting a signal just like I get when I plug into the phone wall outlet; what I get is nothing, no DSL signal. Am I don’t this correctly? if not please explain.
how do i know what network cable do i got in my house?

How can I tell which network cable is the best?
I am upgrading to gigabit ethernet on my home network, which requires Cat5e or Cat6 cables to get the highest speeds.
I have a ton of cables. Some are marked with category in ink on the side, some are not. Some are old, some are not. Some are short, and some are not. On a 10Mbit network, I never cared which is which.
Is there any way to know which of my cables are the “best”, since cable quality suddenly makes a difference. I also assume that there is some quality variance within a category (I.E. one Cat5e cable may be better than another).
How do I find an open port with a broadband wireless network provider?
I have been able to set up port 8080 with a cable and disk ip. The broadband wireless provider claims not to be blocking any ports, but I can not find an open port. The router is a Linksys WRK54G. The firewall is open to this port. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Bill

What do I need to look for when selecting a wireless router for a home network?
I recently purchased a used laptop with 802.11b wireless capability. I would like to set up a wireless home network with my desktop still connected via cable and a wireless router to connect my laptop. My house has three floors, with my desktop and internet connection in the basement. I will be using the laptop mostly on the main floor. I see routers with prices ranging from $25 to nearly $200. How do I select one that will be reliable without buying way more than I will need? Thanks for any advice or recommendations.
How do I install the driver for my network card on my Laptop if I don’t have the disc that came with it?
I want to install a network card on my laptop but I don’t have the disc that came with it. (It’s a few years old) I ran a check on my computer to see if it had the driver on it but it doesn’t have it for the model I have. (It’s a D-link DFE-670TXD). I found the driver it needs online using my desktop but when I downloaded it to a disc and tried to run it on my laptop it said the disc didn’t contain files related to my hardware, and I KNOW it was the right driver. Is there any other way to get the driver on the laptop without the original disc? I can’t connect the two computers b/c the network adapter is the kind that allows you to plug in a CAT5 cable, not a wireless one. PLEASE HELP!!
