if i have a 16 mbps download speed does that mean i can download a gb worth of stuff in 1 minute?
ok so i have 16 mbs per second 1 gb is about 1000 mbs so 1000 divided by 16 = 62.5 seconds so about 1 minute for me to install 1 gigabyte on 16 mbps download speed
I have a gigabit switch, if i connect a 100 Mbps device, does it make the network operate at the lower speed ?
I have upgraded my internal network 10/100 switch to 1Gbps 1000 Mbps. It is a netgear GS605. Most devices on the network have a 1Gbps NIC apart from the router itself which is 100 Mbps. Does this mean that the whole network will still operate on the lower 100 Mbps to get compatibility ? or has new technology moved on where it can sense and adjust Speed accordingly? . I am asking this question because the network speed has not increased in the slightest since upgrading the switch. Before on the 100 Mbps switch the network was utilizing 60 -80 % now it is only running 7%. The hard drives are no where near flat out so the bottle neck is not with them and i have cat 5e cables through out. All NIC are set to auto sense and the correct colours appear on the switch ( Green for Gbps and yellow for Mbps).
TIA
