Alright I am on Sabayon 3.5 and here is the problem, after configuring a pppoe connection using the command

sudo pppoe-setup

followed the wizard and did everything and started it with

sudo pppoe-start

it says its connected, now there is a problem that its using eth0 as internet interface whereas I want it to use ppp0.

I checked with ifconfig that ppp0 is active but Sabayon just doesn’t want to use it as the interface……what am I doing wrong?

My router firewall is off, the pppoe-setup allows u to setup a basic desktop firewall which I think is number “1″, the numberings r from 0 to 2 I think.

0 is no firewall
1 is for work stations
2 for servers

I chose 1 and I am pretty sure pppoe is enabled in the gentoo kernel.
do u think its possible that even though ppp0 is setup sabayon’s firewall is covering ppp0 and only allowing access to eth0, if so how should I change that?
No, BSD Unix Geek, rc.conf in Gentoo doesn’t have any such option u mention, but I did try manually modifying pppoe.conf but no it made no difference.
Update, even people at the Sabayon forums don’t know whats wrong…….lol

Ok, I will be as brief when I explain my problem. I am using a speed touch router to connect to dsl. I configured my ethernet connection using the command “sudo pppoeconf”. Now the problem is that I can’t visit my router webpage which is speedtouch.lan to make changes in the router configuration.

Some one in the forums told me:
“If you have a router, what are you running ppp on the PC. This will tunnel thru the router and you will not use the router as your dns server. You will use the ISP dns which does not know speedytouch.lan.

Configure pppoe on the router and then use the router to share this ppp connection to all your PCs and devices.”

Is he right? Then how can I configure pppoe on my router, I am using Gutsy right now and I remember I never had a problem like this in Fiesty.

Ok im duel booting with windows and Suse Linux 10.3 , and i got my internet to work fine on windows but, heres my problem on Linux.

Ok i have Att.net for my internet, ( hopefully switching soon ) and i connect like this. First i connect to my wireless router, ( with a wep encryption) then att.net ( PPPOE ). But on linux, i have NO clue how to get this to work. P.S At@t SUCKS!!! so they dont have any linux support,

I have one computer which is runnig on Linux Ubuntu 7.10 and this computer is conntect to local provider which gives me Internet access via pppoe protocol. I have installed on this computer another ethernet card, and what to share thrue this card internet access to another PC.

Can somebody tell me how I can configure this. Or maybe you have use full link where this is described.

I recently switched to the ubuntu distribution of linux and now I can’t get online. I have a DSL modem with a linksys wireless router. Before, I had windows and it would just ‘pick up’ the wireless signal. Then I would connect to my ISP with a username/password via PPPoE. Now I am in linux, and it wants more information than I have. I don’t know about DHCP or static IPs, subnets or gateways. If there is a way to get this information, or a way to connect the old way with PPPoE, I would like to know it. Detailed answers, please.

i.e I want the computer with mac address 01:23:45:67:89:ab NOT to be assigned an i.p.
