I am working on wiring phone jack with a cat 5 cable. I connected the blue and green wires at the base. I tried to connect them to wires 3 & 4 on the RJ25 jack with out any success. Do they have to be certain order blue to 3 etc? Or where on the RJ25 connection pins do I connect?
Thanks. I used both blue and white for one line and the green for the second. I hooked the two green wires to the green and the two blue to the red at the phone base. I am going to try just one wire on each that might be my connection issue

I’m currently trying to connect my xbox to my laptop, and my laptop to my router. But, my laptop holds one ethernet port, and a phone jack. Is there any way I can turn this into a ethernet port so I can link my laptop to my router?
so what your saying is I can put something into my usb port on my laptop, and on the other side will be a ethernet port? i’m confused.. :/
I’m trying to bridge myself host on my xbox, that is the reason behind all of this..

I’m replacing a 2wire router and a 2wire modem(?) that splits the phone jack to the phone, and to the router.

I just bought a linksys WRT54GS router, but I don’t have anything to go from the phone jack to the cat5 internet port on the linksys router. Do I need some kind of converter/splitter to go from the jack to an ethernet cable, or a linksys modem or something?

I have two jacks in my wall plate. One RJ11, the other RJ45. Both were wired with Cat5. I want to convert the RJ11 to RJ45 so I have two RJ45′s but I don’t want to have to re-terminate the wire. Is there an RJ45 termination for my wall plate that has on the backside an easy way to plug into the RJ11 so I don’t have to hire someone to re-wire the termination? I also don’t want to re-wire it myself.

I need to arrange the wires in a cat5 cable so that I can make an ethernet jack that I can use to plug an ethernet cable to connect to the internet.

The main computer is connected to broadband with one RJ45 10/100/1000. The network adapters on it are: 802.11n wireless LAN card, Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
The other computer is older and as far as I can tell it has an Intel 82562 ET 100 Base-TX PHY jack. The network adapter on it is: Intel (R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection.
I want to connect the main computer with broadband to this older computer which is going to be located apprx. 120 feet away in a metal sided building.
Can I use ethernet CAT6 cables and an ethernet jack to accomplish this?
I do not think wireless will work with the metal sided building.

I have a wall jack that I purchased from monoprice.com. I expected the wires to be labeled the same as the cat5 cable I have (green/orange/blue/brown solid and striped). Instead, the wiring on the wall jack is green, red, black, orange, brown, white, blue and yellow.

So, I guess I am wondering what colors go with what?

Hmmm…can you no longer mark a question as “answered”?

First off, explains why I got these so cheap I thought I was beating the system. Still, I think my run should be less than 30m, so hopefully I’ll still get 100. Otherwise I wasted 80 cents

I followed the instructions here: http://www.la-cable.com/technical_support.htm and it seemed to work on a short test cable (and Windows reports running at 100). For reference I found this works:
OrangeStripe < --> Blue
OrangeSolid < --> Orange
GreenStripe < --> Black
BlueSolid < --> Red
BlueStripe < --> Green
GreenSolid < --> Yellow
BrownStripe < --> Brown
BrownSolid < --> White (or gray)

(AM I missing something with the “correct answer” choice? I thought that’s how Answers worked, but I don’t seem to see anything about it here…)

Soon I will have a wired home network. Wireless would be easier, but I I am low on cash and want the full potential of my internet. I have pre-wired most of my home with a Cat 5 cables, I just need a router and ethernet wall jacks. So far I understand Bestbuy does not longer sell them ( I checked at the store) and was told RadioShack sells them ( I havent checked there yet). I found Cat 5e wall jack or port faceplate, on tigerdirect.com. (Why tigerdirect because its cheaper than it was at bestbuy, which is $4 more per wall jack. I dont know the price for them at radioshack.) I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Cat 5e wall jacks will work with Cat 5 cables. So there is no problem between the too. I just wanted to ask before I bought them, and find out it possibly doesnt work.

I have no connectivity from my computer to my switch, router, or even modem. All cat5e cables I use are good. The ethernet device is enabled and it has worked until this point.

I can’t seem to figure out what I need to get to make this work.
I’m going to run a Cat6 cable through the wall and the cable already has connectors. I need a wall box and face plate so I can connect the cat6 cable directly to it with out having to cut the ends off…

So I need to find something that basically will connect the two cables at the wall.

Cable in the wall > that jack into the wall box > the a open jack on the outside that I can plug another regular cat6 cable into

any suggestions and links to products that fit what I need.??

If there is nothing like that I guess I can cut the one end to expose the individual cables then take those eight and screw them to the wall box (I don not have a crimping tool)

I’m trying to extend my cat5e Ethernet cable because I don’t have enough and it was really tough running it through the house.

But I have a rj45 jack
So I could use another nethernet cable to connect it to the existing one

But the cables don’t match up and I need to know how the colors cross

The rj45 has these colors
Green
Yellow
Brown
White
Blue
Orange
Black
Red

The cat5e Ethernet cable has
Green
Brown
White/green
White/orange
White/blue
Orange
Blue

I’ve done this before and it has worked but I lost my notes and I can’t figure the color matches now, cuss I know some are crossed

I have been running cat5e cable and have been using the Leviton quickport cat5e jacks to terminate the cables. However, I noticed that a couple of my jacks say just “cat5″ instead of “cat5e” like the other ones.

They still has the same amount of termination zones for the wire.

So, my question is does it matter that it says just cat5 on that jack? Can I still get gigabit as long as I use a cat5e cable with that jack (by this I mean cat5e cable in the walls)?

I have a standard RJ-11 phone jack in my office that both my phone lines are wired to.
I would like to connect an old style desk phone that has “hold” and is capable of receiving multiple lines.

The old phone is from a PBX system so I am wondering if I can rewire it to work properly off my RJ-11 jack?

I was hoping to use the old phone because I like the retro look and have always found the old desk phones more comfortable.

It does have the red hold button & 4 or 5 line buttons. I can live without the “hold” functioning but I would like the ring to work.

Trying to connect a Phillips ethenet cable (cat5e) PNL1145 to Phillips RJ45 Flush mounted wall jack (PH69608). Problem is, I bought one that has screws that have correspond to 8 colors, White, Brown, Yellow, Green, Red, Black, Orange, Blue and my cat 5 cable is brown, orange, green, blue (with corresponding whites for each). Any help?

I live in Qatar, the standard ADSL connection in Qatar has 2 core with RJ11 jack, I just purchased a new modem/router online from the US, the Internet connection is RJ45, I tried to fix it directly but it didn’t work, I need to know how to fix the wires.. from rj11 to rj45 with 2 core only.

I’ve been using the Leviton jack for a while and recently a co worker is trying to convince me the this Kwik jack is better? It’s an appealing video on you tube but I’m still not sold.

My room has a phone jack where an Ethernet port used to be and now I need the ethernet port back. Need internet connection for my Xbox live.
