I have a DSL modem that is connected to a wireless router. From the router I have an ethernet cable that goes into a room of my house. In that room I have 3 devices that need connected to the internet. Can Plug the ethernet cable going from my router into a hub or switch and then have 3 ethernet cables go from that into the devices? Please explain the diff between hubs and switches and tell me what I need.

Is there something, maybe it would be like a usb router that you would plug into your laptop.

so are you supposed to connect a telephone wire into a walljack and then connect it to your wireless modem, then take an ethernet cable and connect it to your router and your computer OR are you supposed to take an ethernet cable and connect it into a cat5e wall jack and connect it to the router and take another ethernet cable and connect it to the router and the computer?!? help please

I am having issues with my internet not working properly. I want to try to plug my cable internet into my computer or laptop, without using my router to see if it is an internet connection problem or a router problem; because I do not want to buy another router. Since they are so expensive. Please advise.

i have a netgear wireless router and my cable modem is located in 1 room and my computer is located in another. do i tried to plug my netgear up to my computer via a cat5e cable to log into the wireless router. when i go to 192.168.1.1 i get nothing. it’s powered up but i can’t get in. it looks like i need to hook up the internet correct? i just want to change the firmware and i was hoping i could do it without the internet. any suggestions

So I borrowed a laptop from work to “work from home”. My IT guy said just take the ethernet cord out of my home computer (desktop) and put it into my laptop. Then I will be able to access the internet.
Its a yellow cord that says cat5. The head of it fits into the back of my laptop in a socket with a picture of three small rectangles (in a pyramid shape) and the light on it turns green.
But no internet! Ugh!
Am I doing something wrong?

I can see that with my Wireless PCI Card, it picks up network file speed 54 MBPS, but on Ethernet Cord, it picks up on 100 MBPS. Which device will give you faster download and upload speed?

Can I use a ethernet HUB to connect 4 xbox 360′s without plugging it into a computer? Can I do it without the internet? If not, any other suggestions besides a router?
