Since i can’t use 2 router, I’m planning to convert my D-link into a Switch so that i can maximize the speed. How do i do this? (Currently manually configure the WAN to assign the IP address and DNS gateway for the D-link router)
Im currently using d-link 524, so there’s no simple option to just click and magic happen.
and i would still need enough ports for 4 computers.

This is probably a really stupid question. If i have a nomal broadband package with orange can i just plug a wireless router in to get wireless broadband. Also if i cant whats the easiest way to get wireless for my xbox and a laptop?

i need to have a 100MB near my HiDefTV from my office/Computer room (which has FIOS 100Mb Ethernet).. i have two options either use Coaxial network or Telephone nework.. both Office / TV room have access to Coaxial/Telephone wiring. Tried 802.11 54G wireless, but bandwidth for home-network streaming not sufficient (not consistent).. thanks in advance for any advise.
i do have a CAT5 cable but only 2-wires used for a phone.. So my home is pretty much ethernet pass through ?.. How does this work.. withouth a switch.. can i connect multiple hosts ?.. another question.. can i continue to use my telephone line ?

so i dont have the modem in my room just the ethernet cable so instead of plugging into my laptop i could just plug it into the router and it would work?

I have and x box 360, an Ethernet cord, a bright net high speed modem, and I would like to know how can you get x box live working by connecting the Ethernet cord straight into the back of the modem?

Is there any way I could do this without needing a cat5 cable to plug into my router which is currently connected to the modem?

I have an Xbox 360 downstairs, and the ethernet cord they give you in the box is not long enough so i have purchased a longer one. I’m wondering if I can directly hook it into my linksys router by my computer. Or, does this need to be plugged into a wall ethernet cord. Because when I did this before (into the router) I could not connect do to a problem with the MTU.

Orbis there a device you can plug into your laptop to transmit the signal. I am thinking of getting mobile broadband but would like to allow other laptops and the xbox in the house to use it as if it were a normal broadband connection.

I have a router in my brothers room. I am running a ethernet cord from my room into his so I can have internet access. Is there something I can get for my computer so I do not have to run the cord.

I have a ADSL Modem that doesn’t connect to my Desktop PC only to my Laptop I think the problem is in my usb Ports can I use a USB to PS/2 Converter to connect the modem.

So the network goes down whenever a certain PC on the network is put to sleep or restarted. It may be happening with other PCs as well, but so far has been isolated to this one. This PC has been running for over a year and a half on this switch, a 24 port 10/100/1000 TrendNet switch, without a hitch up until a couple of weeks ago. This problem appeared out of the blue.

All Cat6 runs are tested and fully functional.

What happens, is any active connections suddenly “freeze” on the switch, and their corresponding LEDs become stuck in the on position, no more blinking. And all connections in the home are dropped.

I have it down to either a bad NIC (unlikely), or more likely a bad switch. I’m curious if a WOL setting could be causing this disturbance. Has anyone seen this before?

Me and my family are going on vacation, and the place we stay at has an ethernet cable in the kitchen area. I was wondering if I bring our router, could I plug it in to the cable it gives us and I have a wireless connection? It would mostly be used for my iPod and laptop, and my dads laptop, considering they get Internet from wireless ports. I was just thinking, would this work or should I just scan as far as our balcony can see?

My dream.. I guess, is to get into Stern and to take part in their Global Study program. I am only going to be a sophomore in high school next year, but I want to try and get the right classes so that rest off my high school career so I can have a chance of getting into Stern and the program.

So this year, I was in regular classes and I received a 3.67 and a 3.7 gpa.
I took english, world history, algebra 1, spanish 1, integrated science 1, dance 2, and cheer
I was a part of the FCA (fellowship of Christian athletes club) and I plan to be a part of that for all four years.

Next year(sophomore) I am signed up to take regular (non ap): english, history, geometry, spanish 2, integrated science 2, speech and debate 1, health (online), and cheer

So here are my questions: What else can I do to get in to Stern? what classes should I take the other years, what clubs should I join, how much community service should I do?

I think I’ll end up doing well on the SAT’s because I have always placed advanced in my Star and Cat6 testing, and on my GATE testing( I was a part of GATE from third to eighth grade and I hope to join honors again in junior year).
