VoIP Interview with NBC 13

What is VOIP and how does it work? VoIP stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol.” It means voice communication over the Internet rather than over the traditional publicly switched telephone network (PSTN). In the same way that your computer turns your keyboard typing into an e-mail and transmits it via the Internet Protocol (IP) standard, it can also turn voice data into a form that is transmitted via IP and reassembled at the receiver’s computer or, increasingly, a specially equipped landline or mobile phone. What are the advantages of VOIP phones? If you have a broadband connection with either DSL or cable, you are able to use VoIP and avail yourself with the principal advantage of VoIP telephone service – low cost. For an IP-to-IP phone call it can even be no cost to anywhere in the world. For the traveler, VoIP provides the advantage of portability. As long as you have access to a broadband connection – and they are becoming more and more ubiquitous with each passing year – you can easily and cheaply keep in touch with family and business associates. Just pack a headset or IP phone in your bag. Then all you need to do is sign on to your VoIP service and make your call. No worrying about cell phone coverage, roaming, or long distance charges. Many of the same features that you’ve come to expect as standard with your traditional and cell phone service is available with VoIP service. Services like call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, three-way calling

Does anyone have any tips for an interview with Cisco?

I’m an electrical engineering major hoping to graduate in one year, and got an interview for a summer internship with Cisco. More than general interviewing tips, I’m looking for pointers on what to expect in specific. What should I study? What should I ask them? Does anyone know what the procedure there is like? Of course everything helps, so fire away!

Interview with Russ Gillon from ACT Broadband

Senator Lundy spoke to Russ Gillon from ACT Broadband to briefly discuss some of the issues facing ACT contstituents living in areas such as Gungahlin which have their Internet access severly limited by RIM technologies. This short video is an introduction to the problems, and will be followed up by a longer and more in-depth interview. Transcript: Kate: Russ, you’ve obviously been campaigning for quite some time now, what prompted you to start your website and really drill down into issues about the Gungahlin broadband problem. Russ: I suppose what inspired me was the fact that performance was quite poor, it was really the main driver. There wasn’t a great deal of value in paying what we have to pay here for broadband and not actually getting anything for it. But I’ve also come across, I have the ability because I’m in IT to explain these sorts of things to the general public and I decided to use that skill to get the message out there. I believed if I could get the message out there and I could demonstrate that this was actually a real problem, then I might be able to get the community behind me, we might be able to affect change. Gungahlin is unique in Canberra, in the fact that when Gungahlin was rolled out, they rolled out RIM technology into Gungahlin and it’s very rarely used in other parts of Canberra but it is prolific in Gungahlin. So if you’re in a brand new suburb, where Telstra has rolled out a brand new RIM and you’re lucky anough to get onto that RIM, and

Interview With Jonathan Budd (Part 1 of 2)

JP King of iMAP Academy interviews “Internet Royalty” Jonathan Budd.

Did I do really bad on my job interview for electrical engineering?

I had a job interview today. They gave me an assessment test when I arrived. It wasn’t timed, but it took me like 50 minutes to finish. But I had forgotten a few things like the formula for resonance frequency and a question about a digital multiplexer that I didn’t know. Maybe I still did fairly well, but let’s just say that at least I may have gotton half of the questions right , if not more.

Then they started asking me more technical questions, in which they would ask me questions , and I would say the right answer, but when they asked me why, I had a hard time explaining how things worked, and I would sometimes take back my answer, and change it even though it was right the first time. There were a few technical questions they asked me.

Then they gave me a schematic of a DC to DC converter and told me to look at it and tell them about the schematic.

I looked at it and told them that it was a DC to DC converter and told them that it converted the 15V to a positive and negative 13 V, but I had a hard time explaining to them about things in the circuit that made it work. I was able to explain some of it. but not much, and I was a little tense/nervous. It was for a test engineer position

Should I kiss it goodbye? Did I do that bad of a job?
