How much would it cost for me to get Virgin to come to my house and install an ethernet wall socket by my xbox so I can connect to xbox live?

I’ve got a ps3 and I want online. My friends have told em to plug an ethernet cable in to my telephone line because i don’t have a home phone and plug the other end into a router.Will this get me Playstaion 3 online?

How do i install a network outlet ? I know i have to choose a standard, depending on the other end of the cat5 cable.
How do i wire it ? DO i need a tool or something. Can someone give me video tutorials or instructions ?

I am working overseas and the housing that is provided has set up an ADSL service, however; the house has a PBX on the phone line (so each room is an extension). If I put the the ADSL modem in a room (i.e. on an extension), will I be able to connect to the internet?

I want to buy a laptop but it doesn’t have broadband service built in, and no slot for an air card, im using sprint for my service. Is it possible to install a internal broadband card in the laptop. I dont want to use a USB port, ill end up breaking it. Thanks…

I got a wireless router one time installed it. But after couple of hours the router didnt work. Should i plug everything in then put in and then putthe disc to install it or put the disc in first because last time it didnt work for some reason.

have been having dropped connection recently, noticeably worse after ADT installed. ATT technician says it is my line problem. I tried disconnecting ADT phone line, but problem still exists. Motorola DSL modem statistics shows a large amount of CRC errors (not sure what it means). Perhaps I need a splitter at the POTS?

I am installing Ubuntu in order to implement a PBX server. I went with Server the first time and ran into difficulties with VNC. I redid the install barebones and then manually just installed Gnome and am happy so far, but I want to know what exactly is installed with both the Desktop versus the Server edition. My install ISO was for server, do you get different program options with the Desktop ISO?

I’ve just purchased the 20meg broadband package with virgin media, however I don’t have a modem etc etc I literally just have the pc, I’m pretty sure the guy that comes round to install it installs everything I will need including any ethernet cables etc but im not 100% sure and would hate to not have everything ready when he comes on friday.

ive a belkin wireless router which stopped working suddenly so bought another hoping the cd would be inside & yep you guess it no manual cd or installation cd. Ive tried installing it going online but i just cant seem to find how to do it, I did find 1 bit asking for username & password from my isp i haven’t a clue what these are. I dont know if its dynamic , static or pppoe or whatever it said. Its very confusing to a dim lancashire bird can somebody please help?

Ive found the manual but nothing on how to actually get the wireless router working.

lol cheers smudge, Ive tried them & every install guide or easy wizard thingy says insert cd once ive connected the wires & fings.
2nd replier ive no manual & the one online asks for username & password, which i can log on to the belkin site but when i try to set the wireless router up it keeps saying insert cd

I have a modem, that came with an ethernet cable. I connected it and I don’t know how to install it. I searched in device manager but nothing. I have an installation CD but that’s only for USB drivers. So how to I setup the ethernet cable?

I just moved into my parents house. I had previously set up an older wireless G router there. I have a new wireless N router that I was using at my own place that I want to install at my parents house. Can I just swap the units and leave everything else the same? If I do, is the network key the one from the old router or the new router?

I have an existing peer-to-peer network with machines running XP. I bought a Dell with Server 2003 loaded. The install instructions say to hook all the existing machines to the new server during configuration. But it recommends the server provide DHCP services. If I disable DHCP on the existing router, how will the client machines get an IP address before the server is up and functioning? Seems like a chicken and egg scenario.

Related, I have DSL coming in to a linksys router. (Only one network port in the new server.) Do I need to keep the router between the DSL modem and my new gigabit switch, or will the server handle all the functions that the router now does (server has settings for PPPoE info)? Can the DSL modem connect directly to the switch? Do I need a cross-over cable to do this?
