Okay, so I got a 3-month gold subscription to Xbox Live and I’ve been told that i need a Cat5 cable, that I need a Cat6 cable, and that I need an ethernet cable, and that whichever one is right needs to be connected from a router to my Xbox 360.

I wasted 6 8CPC (rj-45) jacks already. I know I am doing it right. White orange, orange, white green, blue, white blue, green, white brown, brown. And I am placing it correctly in the jack from left to right (facing it from the bottom of the jack). But it doesn’t work! I don’t have a cable tester because I don’t see the point just to tell you that your SOL since you still have to start all over again if one copper string didn’t make the cut.

But Im thinking in the back of my head now, “is it a 568A?” But on the cable it says 568 CAT5E. And isn’t CAT5E consider an 568B? So, I think I have everything right so far.

Do you think its because when i take off the jacket i could have accidently cut one of the copper wires on accident, like one small microscopic scratch?

Also, i found all this cable in a dumpster behind a school. Do you think they probably ran the whole left-over cable with some destruct mechanism so no one else is able to use the cable?

Im getting slow transfer speeds. I think the fastest Ive seen have been 8 MByte’s per sec. I should be getting at least 80 MByte’s Per sec right?

Im transfering from my internal SATA HD on the computer to my PS3. Im not sure if its SATA I or II though.
I see that my local area connection status tell me that my speed is 1 Gbit’s Per sec.
I dont know if there is something (QoS) in my router that wont let it pass or if there is something witht the PS3 or if there is a setting on my Hard Drives that i need to change.

Im talking about Network transfer speeds. Between the PS3 and my PC. they both have gigabit NIC’s in them. So I should be able to get higher speeds.

do the length of an ethernet cord affect the speed of the connections? i just bought an ethernet cord (cat6) its about 3 feet long. for days and days an error message (local area connection, a network cable has been unplugged) keeps popping up every few seconds!!!!!! is it because of the length of the ethernet cord? if it’s not can u tell me whats wrong and how to fix it?!!! PLZ I REALLY NEED HELP!!!

I have an 8mbps cable connection. but the best i have ever seen is 1 mbps. which was a LONG time ago. now, my internet is getting so bad that i cant even play xbox live. it lags way too much! i get red bar everyday! i have tried lots of stuff but none works. ive had this problem for a couple of months. i asked my ISP and they say that we have the fastest connection available and there is no other way its being slow. For instance, i used to be able to click the HD button on a youtube video and it would not stop to load the video and i could watch it the whole way through! it was fantastic! but now, mine wont even load a normal SD quality video without stopping to load. someone please help! is my equipment wearing out? do i need new cables? does it have something to do with the underground cables? i have a 100mbps ethernet connection and a 54mbps router and CAT5 cables. do i need CAT6? do i need a new router? should i call my ISP again and ask them to look at the cable leading into my house? please somebody help!

I have a CAT5 crossover cable to hook the two up. I cannot connect the PC to the router unfortunately. I have installed the LLTD update on the XP desktop. When I connect the two via crossover, the laptop-Vista will not recognize the desktop-XP. I cannot figure out how to get this to work so I would appreciate any step-by-step help.

my father in-law recently replace the hard drive on his laptop. since then the laptop will not recognize a wired connection to the internet. we have wireless connection on it as well, but that sometimes goes out.

Just to clear up some issues. I do not have any credit card, and if I have I don’t want to buy this books only to find the solution for this problem (or worse not to find anything related to this). I am not rich (I live in Serbia) and for me 100$ is big amount of money.

i m having a macbook and a internet connection via adsl modem. I also have an iPOD touch which has wifi to access internet via hotspot.. i have connected internet from modem via cat6 cable and connected to pc .. and now i need to share that internet to WIFI card in pc and then i have to create a wifi network and make ipod to join it and access the internet.. plz give step by step procedure..

I have the slimline Ps2′s I have a Dynex Cat5 cable running from my router Netgear WGR614 v7 it says connection successful. But, when I try play Smackdown vs Raw 07 it says login. So at my friends house, theres a guest house in the back yard. well, we hang out at the guest house. Now, the main house has Wi-fi but due to the guest house being made of cinder block, it doesn’t receive the signal inside. if we go outside, we get plenty of reception. What im wondering is: is there any type of like…receiver unit i can buy to put outside or in a window of the guest house to either bring the signal inside or at least have some cat5e connectors

I am attempting to connect a CAT5E crossover cable between my Win 98 PC and my Win 2000 Pro Laptop. I really have no clue how to configure this between the two computers, so a step by step explanation would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys i was wondering how to stop myself lagging in games and overall improve my connection i will tell you my set up.

I have: A virgin media 20meg connection with a ambit 255 modem, Linksys WRT54GS routor, To my routor i have my computer wired and my xbox, i also have 1 laptop connected wirelessly. All my Ethanet cables are cat6 and i am about 1 min from exchange can someone tell me why i am lagging and any settings to change in the routor page.

I want to connect my Linksys 54G router to it’s ethernet connection and use it to do my wireless LAN with. I also have 50ft of ethernet wire (CAT6), a Linksys Print Server, a Linksys switch, and a Netgear 54G router, if that helps
the two wire is wireless, but I still don’t perfer it
