Will using a Gigabit Switch be slower than using Multiple Cat6 Cables Directly from the Router?

I have four devices about 50 feet from my gigabit router that I want to connect. I am trying to figure out the best way to do it. Should I run four cat6 cables from my router the 50 feet to my devices or should I run one cat6 cable the 50 feet to a gigabit switch and from there plug in my four devices?

Would the gigabit switch be comparatively slower or will the speeds be the same based only on how many devices are hooked up to the router itself?
The perceived benefit of using a switch is that I would be able to hook up 4 more devices that I would normally be able to and I would only have to run one cat6 cable 50 feet, rather than four.

gigabit router to cat5 modem?

Other than the obvious performance bottleneck, will plugging my gigabit router into my modem which only supports up to 10/100 cause any problems?

What does it mean when advertised as Belkin 1000ft Bulk Gigabit Fast Cat6 “Solid” 24Awg PVC Gray Fastcat6?

The question is around SOLID, what does it mean when advertised as solid? I mean, what the heck would be the alternative!? Here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-1000ft-Gigabit-Solid-Fastcat6/dp/B00004Z8HC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1283966783&sr=8-1

How do i enable dual gigabit ethernet to connect to the internet?

I have two ethernet connections but there both not being utilized. One will connect but the other just say its connected to local. How do i enable both of them? Does it necessarily increase download and upload rates? And what exactly does bridging the connections do?

What is the difference between broadband and dual band gigabit routers?

Hi. I recently bought two wireless routers, a Linksys Dual-Band wireless-N gigabit router and a Linksys Wireless-N broadband router. Anyways I’ve been using the Linksys dual band router recently but the wireless range seems a bit weak and slow. My question is which one would have a better and stronger range as well as faster connection? Also the advantadges or disadvantadges of both would also be great. Thanks.

File corrupted after transfer through 1 gigabit network.?

Hello,

I recently bought a set of SMC Gigabit NIC and installed into both of my PC. Both PC are running Windows XP and the latest NIC driver. The cable is Cat6 and that SMC card support auto cross-cable.

Here is the problem I facing:
- When using 1Gbps speed, i copy a file from one to another. After that, i failed to use that file because of corrupted.
- I tried change the speed to 100Mbps and copy the same file again and it works.

So i decided to check on the files I copied. I wrote a program using VB that compare both files byte to byte. And i get difference in around 100MB. (The file was 400MB)
I would like to know is there any problem with Windows XP using gigabit ethernet? or is there any other cause?

Thanks.
*Sorry for my English.
Forgot to mentioned. I am using P2P. So, no switch or hub used.

Gigabit network limited to 100Mbps (as reported by XP)?

Hello all. I have a WRT310N router (Linksys gigabit router) and a gigabit ethernet card, connected via Cat6 cable.

My connection as reported by xp pro is 100Mbps, what is wrong?

Why does my Gigabit home network only transmit data between devices around 80Mbps?

I am running a Dell 8250, P4 2.4Ghz, 512MB RDRAM, WinXP, SATA RAID 1 300GB HDDs with a Netgear GA311 Gigabit adapter.

It is connected to a Netgear GS108 8 port Gigabit switch. Also connected to the switch is a Network Attached Storage Device (TeraStation 1.0TB) with a built-in gigabit adapter.

Both devices connect to the switch using 14′ Cat6 cables (brand new). All the network cards, switches are new, and the TeraStation is new. I can copy and paste data from the PC to the NAS, but it transmits around 80Mbps, which is short of the 1000Mbps advertised.

Also attached to the switch is a laptop with a 10/100 card and a DSL router running at 10/100. The switch shows the two gigabit devices connected at 1Gb and the two 100Mb devices connected at 100Mb.

Can someone help me understand if I am experiencing a hardware problem or perhaps I need to make some changes to my settings to get these two devices to transmit closer to 1GB.
The PC connects and transmits just fine to the device and over the internet. The problem is the speed. There is no firewall set up (the router takes care of that).

As far as overhead is concerned, can you give me something to look at, such as CPU % or available memory so can I use the performance meter under Admin in Control Panel to see if that is where the bottleneck is occuring…

I’ve switched cables, changed some settings, etc. but nothing seems to make much of a difference.
The connection to the switch is 1000Mbps according to the LEDs on the switch (for both devices). It accurately shows that the 10/100 devices are limited to 100, so I believe the cards and the switch are all compatible…

Looking for a Gigabit Ethernet switch to replace existing wall outlet.?

I am looking for a replacement for a Cat6 module in a single gang face plate, which fits a standard back box, and adapts the wall box to four outlets by means of a self contained Gigabit Ethernet switch.

Can anyone direct me to such a product?

Thank you.

Would a USB Gigabit Network Adapter be compatible with the Xbox 360 in giving gigabit-network speeds?

Would a USB Gigabit Network Adapter be compatible with the Xbox 360 in giving gigabit-network speeds to Xbox Live by using a cat6 or cate5 ethernet cable; even though the Xbox 360 can only support 10/100 network speeds? Or are USB network adapters only compatible with Windows-based PCs?
Best answer will be acknowledged and rewarded.

Will a Gigabit ethernet cable(CAT5 cable) work on my original xbox for xbox live?

Will this work or should i just buy a regular ethernet cable?

Will my bandwidth decrease if I use a wireless g router for dhcp and a gigabit switch for ethernet?

I have a linksys wrt54g for wireless and a standard gigabit switch for ethernet. The linksys only has 10/100 ports so I am not sure if my entire network would be slowed down using the linksys for dhcp.
I think you guys misunderstand me. I am not talking about bandwidth inregards to downloads from the internet but the throughput of file transfers on my network over the gigabit switch. Say if I used a server with a gig enet card and did the dhcp using that via using the linksys would I see a slow down because the linksys only uses 10/100 enet?

Wondering if Gigabit CAT6 cables are faster than CAT5E. Will the performance gain if any be worth it?

Just wondering what the differences are, I was looking at a slim gigabit cat6 cable and I have high-speed internet, that’s why I was wondering, to get a better connection.

How to connect two DHCP servers within cisco switch 3550 10 gigabit ports?

I have two DHCP servers with different subnet connect to the same cisco switch 3550 with 10 gigabit ports. Port # 2 connect to DHCP server1, Port # 3 connect to DHCP server2 and Port # 3 connect to dhcp client zone. Is it impossible to work out? If yes, please tell me on how to do it!
Thanks so much in advance! :-)

I have a gigabit switch, if i connect a 100 Mbps device, does it make the network operate at the lower speed ?

I have upgraded my internal network 10/100 switch to 1Gbps 1000 Mbps. It is a netgear GS605. Most devices on the network have a 1Gbps NIC apart from the router itself which is 100 Mbps. Does this mean that the whole network will still operate on the lower 100 Mbps to get compatibility ? or has new technology moved on where it can sense and adjust Speed accordingly? . I am asking this question because the network speed has not increased in the slightest since upgrading the switch. Before on the 100 Mbps switch the network was utilizing 60 -80 % now it is only running 7%. The hard drives are no where near flat out so the bottle neck is not with them and i have cat 5e cables through out. All NIC are set to auto sense and the correct colours appear on the switch ( Green for Gbps and yellow for Mbps).

TIA

does 1 gigabit equal 1000 mbps?

Can I use a Cat5e RJ45 connector on Cat6 cable and still operate at Gigabit (1000 Mbps) speed?

I know that the cable would work fine. I just want to operate at 1000 Mbps.
(This is for my LAN. NOT WAN connection.)
