When a router is acting as a firewall it can use a technique that monitors all current TCP sessions and allows only the traffic that is requested from the inside the netwrk for the open session. This technique is known as _______ packet inspection.

I took five days or so worth of firewall log data from a us state government agency, and sent ip’s to a company called quova; quova took every 40th one and gave me back full location info on it. I then grabbed all activity for those ip’s from the logs, and graphed it very simply: count of inbound packets, grouped by country of origin and hour. There are striking patterns in this data. Can someone tell me why (I *think* I know already)?

In other words I am trying to block user by mac address on lan or anyother way ( not wireless )

1. can i use my firewall router as a dhcp server in my windows domain?
2. will this effect the login or authentication process?
3. how can can i make a backup dhcp server if in case my current dhcp server fails then it will automatically gives the same ip address to everyone in my network.

I looked everywhere on the web interface, but I can’t find an option to disable this ADSL modem’s firewall. I need to do this cause it’s connected to a router that already has a firewall, and I only want do do port forwarding from the router.

Okay i cant remember my internal IP and i dont have the modem disc installed on my laptop and my dad is out of town.

Im using Eircom Broadband with the very first netopia modem
