How do you reduce the speed of a router so that a new server- intensive app will work thru a firewall?
My company upgraded to Microsoft Office 2003 and integrated a document app into it. Since then, I’ve been unable to connect remotely through my company’s firewall via a Belkin router over a cable connection. The program is now too “server intensive” and the exchange of information packets (I’m told) is overwhelming the system and freezing me out of my internet connection. Two sources have suggested that I “slow down” the router speed to allow a smoother exchange, which will allow me access at home. As a working mom of 3 kids, I reeaally need to be able to connect at home sometimes. Thank you.
How can i disable built in firewall of DSL-200, adsl modem?

Can i get my Ambit Cable modem to work with a Cisco firewall?
My cable company issued me an Ambit cable modem and it works fine with my PC without the firewall, my problem is my employer has set me up to work from home and there is a Cisco Firewall attached to that system and I can not get it to connect. When I called the cable company they stated that it was because of the firewall and that there is nothing they can do to make this work and that I should call Ambit for support, but Ambit refers me back to my cable company who then suggested I may need to buy my own modem. Can anyone offer any help with this?
We are considering upgrade a pix 515 to a HA Cisco firewall?

Internet and Firewall isn’t working after MalPak virus?
Our internet is really screwed up right now. Today, I got the same exact adware virus that I have been getting for the past couple months. It’s the type that tries to pass off as a fake antivirus scanner, but it is actually infecting your computer (it’s called MalPak or something like that).
We have Webroot, and whenever this virus shows up out of the blue, these are the steps I take that have ALWAYS worked:
1.) Run a full scan the computer
2.) quarantine and delete the virus
3.) restart the computer
4.) turn on Windows firewall (because the virus always turns it off somehow)
5.) On internet explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> uncheck the box that says “use a proxy server”
I take those steps, and everything always works just fine again.
But today, the virus came back, and this time in the middle of the scan, the computer shut itself down.
I then decided to restart the computer in Safe Mode, so I could get rid of the virus. It took much longer to scan than usual, but it quarantined the virus.
But after that, I couldn’t get the Windows firewall OR the internet to work again! Whenever I try to enable the firewall, it tells me “Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service?”
I then click Yes, but this is what happens:
“Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service.”
At this point I decided to try scanning with Malwarebytes, and it apparently picked up the last traces of that virus. I restarted the computer again.
Then, I tried to connect to the firewall again by going to the Control Panel, but it just gives me the same message.
As for the Internet (and as you can see, my WiFi is still working just fine), I tried diagnosing the connection problems, and this is the message I got:
“Windows has detected a problem with the Winsock provider catalog on this computer. This catalog allows programs to communicate with this computer across the network. Would you like Windows to reset the catalog to the default configuration?”
And afterwards, I selected ‘Yes’, and restarted the computer. But neither the firewall nor the internet are connecting at all.
Another thing I noticed: It can’t detect my IP address at all. When I go to Control Panel -> Network Connections -> More Information -> Details, this is what it shows me:
Physical address: 00-13-20-18-1B-83
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway field is blank
DNS server: 192.168.1.254
WINS Server field is blank
It won’t let me repair the connection either. It tells me:
“windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP address”
I’ve even tried unplugging our router, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in to see if it can acquire the IP address. But nothing.
Any ideas as to what’s going on?? And how can we fix it?
Uhh… allow me to reiterate.
I. Can’t. Get. Online. With. My. Computer.
Eh, it won’t matter anyway. I just got confirmation yesterday by calling a bunch of tech people that my computer is officially f*cked up. I’ve backed up everything and I’m ready to use the installation CD to reformat my hard drive. But, now I have a new problem. I can’t even boot up from the CD, because a blue screen comes up telling me to restart the computer in safe mode, but the CD won’t even run in safe mode!

Windows xp Firewall Security Problem…Keylogger?
Have been having a problem with my windows firewall.
Had Avast & this still keeps happening.
Whenever I log on to my pc, exactly one hour later the firewall flashes, that it’s been turned off.
This will continue every hour on the hour.
For example: if I log on at 10:15 am, then exactly at 11:15am the firewall will flash that’s it’s been shut, then turn itself back on again and continue this every hour on the hour. then 12:15pm..and so on.
The next day if i log on at 8:00am, then exactly at 9am the firewall will flash that’as it’s been shut, and turn itself back on, and continue this every hour on the hour.
So there is some sort of something with a timer that is breaking through that firewall.
I have heard that comodo is the best.
But I need to find out what has been installed in my PC before I load in Comodo.
Malwarebytes is a program which i tried about 4 months ago and whatever it ripped out, fractured my winsock registry keys.
Could a keylogger be responsible for breaking through the firewall?
and if so, then what removes a keylogger?
Contacted Microsoft who ran an indepth scan of the system.
Removed 2 potential threats:
1. Exploit html/ mht redir.L
2. virtool:js/obfuscator.H
Will superantispyware remove a serious keylogger?
Or is my only way out a reformat? selling the PC and getting a Mac?
Thank you so much in advance for your help, I truly appreciate it!
hello chosen:
yes, i suspected Avast as well and removed it.
But the problem still persists.

Windows XP firewall turns itself off exactly one hour after I log on…?
Constant on going problem.
Windows firewall turns itself off exactly one hour after I log on, and keeps repeating every hour.
For example, I log on at 8am, then the firewall flashes disabled at 9am, then will flash again at 10am and so on.
Is this spyware activity?
A possible keylogger?
Wha can I t to do to stop/remove this?
This past weekend, I did a complete recovery in pc and wiped it clean.
It was fine and suddenly the firewall flashed up again.
Malwarebytes I’ve used once in the past and it removed a trojan but my winsock was damaged in the process.
All helped much appreciated.
Thank you so much.

Cannot sign into Yahoo IM from new PC going through corporate firewall, but works on other PCs?
I have just installed Yahoo IM on a new PC. I can sign in when I connect to the Internet from home (no firewalled router – PPPoE DSL connection), but when I connect from my office network, I cannot sign in.
My office PC has the same version of IM (8.1), and is conected on the same network segment, and I have no problem signing in. I have turned off my firewall on the new PC, but the problem persists.
How can I diagnose and fix this problem? It appears that the corporate network environment is somehow affecting my connectivity, but since IM works on my office PC, I can assume that it is not being blocked.
Help!
John L, thanks. I wondered about that too, but other PCs on our network are not affected. This is only affecting newly-installed PCs.
Loyal B
Actually my job is the key reason why I want to get this IM working. It is the tool that we use within our team to keep in contact amongst ourselves, and with the vendor that supplies the software that we support.
Under most circumstances I would agree, but I have a valid business reason to get this working.
As for the port, see my previous comment.
I can access Yahoo IM via meebo.com. Thanks for the suggestion. However this is a stopgap solution at best. I am working with the company’s network and PC people to solve this problem. They are baffled too. At their recommendation, I have installed WireShark, a network sniffer, to trace what is happening on the network when the signon fails.

Problem Starting Windows Firewall and ICS, any ideas?
I can’t start ICS and therefore windows Firewall. I have tried all the fixes I can find on google, including resetting winsock, starting it from services, security centre and the last resort of removing SP2, after which ICS worked fine and reinstalling SP2 which has brought me back to the same problem. I get 2 errors 1003 and 10047 and it will not allow me to turn on the windows firewall.
Please help as all I am trying to do is use Wi-Fi Max to allow my PSP to connect to the net! Windows networking is not going to help, it’s specifically with reference to not being able to switch on the windows XP firewall because I can’t switch on ICS!
Please help me, I spent 12 hours looking at and tring solutions on Sunday!
Cheers
What is the best embedded firewall (like m0n0wall) software out there?
I have been having difficulties implementing m0n0wall for my office firewall. Somehow it just does not want to recognize my internet and work with the adsl modem. My adsl modem uses pppoe to connect to the ISP and it will dial itself and govern the NAT settings. Do I miss anything? Is there any comparable or even better firewall software out there or which one is best?
Thanks
Rendra
