How can i transfer my files from my desktop to laptop via Ethernet cable with out using any internet connections

i want to transfer files from a xp-home to a xp pro computer.

both of my computers have the same ip, because they are both using the same wireless router. now my question is.

can i transfer files from computer1 to computer2 using a cat5 cable? does it matter what kind of cat5 cable? for your info, its the cable that came with my 360, when i bought it.

help.

I have an ethernet cable which I use to connect my laptop to my DSL motem. if i put the ethernet cable in two laptops how do i transfer files from one 2 another. also would that process be the same to transfer from PC to laptop?

I have a large file on one of my computers (3.88 GB – I don’t have a flash drive large enough for this nor an external hard drive) and I wanted to transfer it to another of my computers.
Is there a way to connect my computers using an ethernet patch cable, not a crossover cable?

i want to transfer about 15gigs from one computer to the other well how would i do that using a ethernet cord (same cord as ones used for High Speed Internet)? i have no router but im sure there is some way i can go about this?
well another thing is that i have 2 laptops and there both on a wireless access point is there some way i can transfer the files wirelessly at all i dont have a crossover cable and im confused as hell so i dont know please give some advice.

every once in a while generally a few times a day anything i try to download from megaupload or rapidshare will freeze for about 13 secs and start up again for about 2 secs. itll say i have 5 min left but it takes like 30 more mins. i run a duel boot system(2 HD’s) windows os and linux. both have the same problem so i know its not malware etc. my internet works great for everything else. i have a t3 connection with verizon fios. anyone have a clue to what the problem is?

its not ok to use my computer from work, I used it because its fast(t3) but its restricted to my work, but once in a while i used it to surf the net I was wondering how to erase the files the I had viewed? the only thing I know is go to tools, internet option, then clear history, is there more to it!! is there a computer geek out there that can solve my q’s?

Connecting both computers to an ethernet DSL router gives me a local area network (LAN). I want to transfer files from the old Windows 98 SE computer to the new Windows XP computer. Does anyone know of a freeware program that will do this in a straightforward manner? Are there any special considerations?

I am trying to figure out what these mean wsock32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, winsock.dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, and kernel32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, after running my antivirus scan these came up, what do they mean, and is it harming my computer, Thanks Jen
Hi it didnt recommend to do anything, it would be my choice, but each time a scan is run the will still come up, no matter if they are deleted at that time

I do not have a firewire port so my options are either a USB to USB cable or an ethernet cable. I am unsure which ethernet cable i would need or which would be best. I am using Vista and need an easy way to transfer files to another PC without using a wireless network or a USB memory stick ect. Please advise.

They are high-resolution video files. A cable internet connection isn’t fast enough. T1 is still a little slow. Is there anywhere I can go to pay for a T3 connection to upload all of this information?

I got a trojan horse virus (dropper) within the last 24 hours, and my Avast! antivirus quarantined it for me. I deleted all the files from the chest except for 3 system files: kernel32.dll, winsock.dll, and wsock32.dll.

Okay, so I have done some research now, and I know what kernel32.dll is and what it does. Obviously I can’t delete it. If it’s showing up in my virus chest on Avast! home edition, that means that it’s infected, right? On other forums, some people say it’s easy to replace the file, but others say that this is risky and would probably not help anyway.

Please help me figure out what I should do!!!
