what do i have to do to access this remotely? Is there a different IP???

NOTE: I have a PPPoE DSL connection from Yahoo (Dynamic IP, not static)

Ok, first off here is my network setup.

Internet:

I receive my connection from a modem from my ISP, and i have a Linksys WRT120N Connected to my cable modem. The router is always connected, the password for the PPPoE and stuff is configured in the router.

Desktop 1:

Desktop 1 is my main, it is connected directly into my router and it receives internet connection directly from one of the ports in the router. It is always connected as long as the router is connected through a WAN type connection on the Desktop.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is the old, disconnected PPPoE connection i used to use before i got my router, and a WAN connection to the router.

Desktop 2:

Desktop 2 is in my room and it uses a wireless PCI card to connect. It connects to the router with a wireless connection and i have no problems with it.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is an Internet Gateway (not entirely sure what this is or does at all), disconnected LAN, and a Wireless Connection to the Router which it uses to access the web.

Situation:

Now, today i wanted to make some shared folders on my computers so i could copy files from computer to computer with out using a flash drive. I used the “Set up home network wizard” on both systems with the same Workgroup name. BUT, i can only access a shared folder thats ON Computer 1 FROM Computer 2. Computer 1 wont even show any other folders other than its own in “My Network Places”. but Computer 2 will show everything.

Id like to be able to access files on Computer 2 from Computer 1 and not just the other way around, but i cant seem to figure it out, my only thought is that since Comp1 is connected directly into the Router it cant access the wireless connections through it, or something like that.

I’m a rookie IT Specialist who is trying to learn Networking and i appreciate any help possible.

Thanks
Oh and I am on Windows XP Home on both systems.

Also, any tips on how to delete the network data i made and just start all over from scratch might end up being my only solution.

Okay, I am trying to make an MMO, and so far, I have all my concepts in place. I am working on Winsock controls in another forum, and I may be posting a question about it here, BUT- I have one critical problem;

Player files.

Okay, I decided that when a player registers, all the information is thrown bit-by-bit to the server, then, I want the server to take the data, open up a text file, put the information, in the correct organization, and then save that file to a directory in my computer.

Though I have a problem- so far, I know how to make Winsock take data, and I can do whatever I like with it, but, I do not know how to make Visual Basic open up a text file, take the information, jot it down into the text, then save it, and name the file, then be able to search it up later when it is needed.

Can someone give me the code? So far, all I have is what is needed to be written.

———————————————————————————————————————–
DataArrived()
————————
Dim strUsername as string
Dim strPassword as string
Dim strEmail as string
Dim strSecurityQuestion as string
Dim strSecurityAnswer as string

Winsock1.GetData strUsername
Winsock1.GetData strPassword
Winsock1.GetData strEmail
Winsock1.GetData strSecurityQuestion
Winsock1.GetData strSecurityAnswer
——————————————————————-

So, so far I just have Winsock1 getting the data, but I already see a problem that I DO NOT know the answer to.

How can I make it so that Winsock1 will know WHAT strUsername is? What if the client put his username, and then the server thinks that the username is the password. How can I make it so it knows what is what?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Does anyone know what the SMALLEST (in data size) text format is?
Oh yeah, the bit of code i threw there isnt from an actual VB, I just made it up on the spot (sept the variables)… So ignore the absence of the Private Subs and End subs
By format, I meant like .txt , .rtf, .abw, etc.

It sends it in order eh?

So if I tell the send button on the client to send the username (a string variable) first in the line, the server will recieve it before all the others and use strUsername to find it since strUsername is the first string Winsock1 is supposed to find?

Hello,

I recently bought a set of SMC Gigabit NIC and installed into both of my PC. Both PC are running Windows XP and the latest NIC driver. The cable is Cat6 and that SMC card support auto cross-cable.

Here is the problem I facing:
- When using 1Gbps speed, i copy a file from one to another. After that, i failed to use that file because of corrupted.
- I tried change the speed to 100Mbps and copy the same file again and it works.

So i decided to check on the files I copied. I wrote a program using VB that compare both files byte to byte. And i get difference in around 100MB. (The file was 400MB)
I would like to know is there any problem with Windows XP using gigabit ethernet? or is there any other cause?

Thanks.
*Sorry for my English.
Forgot to mentioned. I am using P2P. So, no switch or hub used.

How to install andregister MSWINSCK.OCX on Windows Vista! The first thing we have to do is to download the MSWINSCK file. go here www.afreeocx.com and download. When downloaded, put the MSWINSCK file in your C:\windows\system32 directory REMEMBER: DO NOT OPEN THE MSWINSCK FILE! When you have put the mswinsck file in your system32 directory open start menu and in the search box write cmd just wait until the command prompt comes up. When it comes up, RIGHT CLICK on it and choose “Run as administrator” Now, get to the system32 directory, to go back: cd\ to see the files and maps in the directory you are in: DIR to open a map: cd MAPNAME for example if it opens in the C:\ directory you can type CD WINDOWS and after that CD SYSTEM32 when your in the system32 directory write regsvr32 MSWINSCK.OCX Then a Message box will pop up and say that the MSWINSCK file was successfully installed. ! : If you’re running Vista64, put the .ocx file into your SysWOW64 directory under windows instead of System32. FAQ: Q: What is the MSWINSCK.OCX file ? A: Its a file you may need for many “old” programs, programs that is made for Windows XP. When you buy a XP the MSWINSCK file is installed. But on Vista its not. When i got Vista i had meny programs that didnt work because the MSWINSCK file was missing. Before i changed to Vista i had my own Habbo Retro Hotel. If the Retro hotell shall work the server needs to be started. On Vista it was impossible to start the server, coz the mswinsck file was …

I am in the middle of a migration from our mainframe. We currently use CA’s TCPAccess product for ftp and telnet. To cut costs I want to eliminate TCPAccess and use IBM’s TCPIP stack. I have “snake files” on the mainframe that look like 80 byte records but are in reality one big record that spans multiple 80-byte records. When I ftp using FTP2 under TCPAccess, the file is present to Unix as one big record. When I ftp using IBM’s product, it inserts a CR-LF at the end of each 80-byte record. I had used an XLATE table in CA’s product to eliminate the CR-LF but cannot find a way to eliminate them under IBM. BTW, I am running z/OS 1.4 and cannot upgrade the OS to 1.7 or 1.8 due to HW constraints so I am stuck with an unsupported OS. I am dumping redundant SW to save $ thru the end of the project.
