If I add a wired router to my my wireless router, how does that affect file sharing?
I have a wireless Linksys 54G router. I have three gaming computers that I would like send hard lines to. I would like to just add one ethernet wire to another wire only router in that room and then hook these three up to the secondary router.
My question is if I do this, will still be able access shared data on computers hooked up to the first router?
Should my two Vista machines be able to transfer file faster than 10MB/sec over a wired network?
I have two Vista PC’s on a wired network. When I transfer files between the two I only get around 10MB/sec for speed. Remote differential compression is disabled on both. Same result when using a CAT5e patch cable to directly connect them. Is this normal or should it be faster?
There is no anti-virus software installed on either machine.

Loading a binary file on a tcp/ip Client?
Hi,
I have a server application running on a computer, and i want to send a binary file to the server using a TCP/IP client application. Unfortunately I have used the hyperterminal’s winsock(Client) and some other applications, but non of them could send a binary file without formatting it into a text file and thus resulting in corruption of the file.
So if anyone knows of any TCP/IP client application which can transfer binary files kindly let me know.
Thanks

How do i access my file server over FTP???
I have set up a file server in XUbuntu as shown in this tutorial, including the FTP package:
http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2007/06/05/build_your_own_server/5
I was wondering how to connect to this from a remote location.
I have installed “SmartFTP” and was able to connect with a computer on my home network using the Local IP (192.168….)
what do i have to do to access this remotely? Is there a different IP???
NOTE: I have a PPPoE DSL connection from Yahoo (Dynamic IP, not static)

What is this DDL file?
So i just visited a website which managed to install a virus on my pc, it’s a bit of a pain in the arse. It disabled my Registerys(which i found a VB script to enable), task manager and System Restore. It brings up saying It was disabled by a group policy.
I’ve just ran “hijackthis” and was wondering what
“O10 – Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\qizunly.dll” Is?
Also does anyone have any ideas how to get my System restore back?
thanks for replies
File Sharing Over a Network Difficulties?
Ok, first off here is my network setup.
Internet:
I receive my connection from a modem from my ISP, and i have a Linksys WRT120N Connected to my cable modem. The router is always connected, the password for the PPPoE and stuff is configured in the router.
Desktop 1:
Desktop 1 is my main, it is connected directly into my router and it receives internet connection directly from one of the ports in the router. It is always connected as long as the router is connected through a WAN type connection on the Desktop.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is the old, disconnected PPPoE connection i used to use before i got my router, and a WAN connection to the router.
Desktop 2:
Desktop 2 is in my room and it uses a wireless PCI card to connect. It connects to the router with a wireless connection and i have no problems with it.
The connections it has in the Network Connections folder is an Internet Gateway (not entirely sure what this is or does at all), disconnected LAN, and a Wireless Connection to the Router which it uses to access the web.
Situation:
Now, today i wanted to make some shared folders on my computers so i could copy files from computer to computer with out using a flash drive. I used the “Set up home network wizard” on both systems with the same Workgroup name. BUT, i can only access a shared folder thats ON Computer 1 FROM Computer 2. Computer 1 wont even show any other folders other than its own in “My Network Places”. but Computer 2 will show everything.
Id like to be able to access files on Computer 2 from Computer 1 and not just the other way around, but i cant seem to figure it out, my only thought is that since Comp1 is connected directly into the Router it cant access the wireless connections through it, or something like that.
I’m a rookie IT Specialist who is trying to learn Networking and i appreciate any help possible.
Thanks
Oh and I am on Windows XP Home on both systems.
Also, any tips on how to delete the network data i made and just start all over from scratch might end up being my only solution.
What purpose does port 137 serve when I have file sharing off and have disabled uPnP?
I also have DCOM off, and see no purpose in broadcast addresses doing anything once I’ve gotten my DHCP address assigned. However, I’m seeing a lot of port 137 and 138 in my firewall log. I selected a Public Network, so I’m really confused. Also, it looks like binary data of some kind in the packets I captured.
What is really going on here?
Batch file for changing IP Address.. Help please!!!?
Hello,
I need to write a batch file that changes the IP address for an ADSL PPPoE connection. Some friends told me that i can do this by:
1) ipconfig /release
2) ipconfig /renew
3) netsh
However, I do not know what parameters I need to use for the “netsh” command.
Can anyone help me in these parameters?
Thanks in advance,
Darren.
How to make Visual Basic 6, make a text file, sorting server data?
Okay, I am trying to make an MMO, and so far, I have all my concepts in place. I am working on Winsock controls in another forum, and I may be posting a question about it here, BUT- I have one critical problem;
Player files.
Okay, I decided that when a player registers, all the information is thrown bit-by-bit to the server, then, I want the server to take the data, open up a text file, put the information, in the correct organization, and then save that file to a directory in my computer.
Though I have a problem- so far, I know how to make Winsock take data, and I can do whatever I like with it, but, I do not know how to make Visual Basic open up a text file, take the information, jot it down into the text, then save it, and name the file, then be able to search it up later when it is needed.
Can someone give me the code? So far, all I have is what is needed to be written.
———————————————————————————————————————–
DataArrived()
————————
Dim strUsername as string
Dim strPassword as string
Dim strEmail as string
Dim strSecurityQuestion as string
Dim strSecurityAnswer as string
Winsock1.GetData strUsername
Winsock1.GetData strPassword
Winsock1.GetData strEmail
Winsock1.GetData strSecurityQuestion
Winsock1.GetData strSecurityAnswer
——————————————————————-
So, so far I just have Winsock1 getting the data, but I already see a problem that I DO NOT know the answer to.
How can I make it so that Winsock1 will know WHAT strUsername is? What if the client put his username, and then the server thinks that the username is the password. How can I make it so it knows what is what?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Does anyone know what the SMALLEST (in data size) text format is?
Oh yeah, the bit of code i threw there isnt from an actual VB, I just made it up on the spot (sept the variables)… So ignore the absence of the Private Subs and End subs
By format, I meant like .txt , .rtf, .abw, etc.
It sends it in order eh?
So if I tell the send button on the client to send the username (a string variable) first in the line, the server will recieve it before all the others and use strUsername to find it since strUsername is the first string Winsock1 is supposed to find?
how do i get back my file called winsock2?
