Is it possible to link two computers with just 1 Ethernet cable and play a game? (Dawn Of War)?
I’m just wondering the basics of LAN. All I’ve got is 1 CAT5 cable and two computers… Is there anything else that is essential to me?
I’m only doing this to play a game with my friend (NOT ONLINE)

Speed of fiber vs copper: gigabit ethernet?
Is the speed between two: 1000BASE-SX LC multimode 50/125um fiber modules
the same as between two: 1000BASE-T CAT5e modules
Assume: Gigabit ethernet protocol, length of cable/fiber is nominal (under 100 feet), all else is the same, connections are between two quality switches.
[I think I am getting hung up on LC having a separate send and receive fiber (asynchronous), so the related question is: does gigabit ethernet have a max bandwidth of ~1gb or ~2gb, or...?]
Where can i find a n ethernet driver?
I recently formatted my Insignia Desktop computer.
I lost most of my drivers but the one I cannot find anywhere (not even in the insignia website) is the ethernet controller driver.
I don’t have any internet on that computer beacuse of that.
Does anyone have a link to download the dirver?
:S
Thank you!

Ethernet cable question – not very savvy about this?
I need someone with good knowledge of Ethernet cables to give the green light to buy this:

Will this type of cable work with my Belkin Wireless G-Plus router? I mean, if I connect my PC directly to the router using this ethernet cable, I and everyone else connected to the router will be able to connect to the internet with no problems? I need to ask this because upon searching for cables I discovered there are different types like “crossover” and such.
Other recommendations are welcome also.
Thanks very much
Tony
Can you put an ethernet card on a computer without any ethernet ports?

Gigabit Ethernet Speeds?
Hello,
I have a Belkin N1 Router with Gigabit Ethernet ports.
Plugged in to it, I have a HP Laptop with Gigabit Ethernet and the status of this network connection reports the speed of 1.0Gbps.
I also have a Western Digital WorldBook NAS (Network Attached Storage) with Gigabit Ethernet and the configuration page reports that its network connection is running at 1000Mbps.
All network cables are Cat5e.
Therefore I’m assuming I have everything set up correctly to make best use of Gigabit Ethernet.
My laptop is running Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 (therefore, have the patch to resolve the well know network copying poor performance bug).
When moving or copying files between the laptop and NAS, the Move/Copy dialog box reports a transfer speed of around 4.5Mbps. My question is, is this normal?? It seems very poor and slow to me. A 700Mb file takes around 4 minutes to copy.
In comparison, transfer speeds wirelessly using 802.11g (54Mbps) is around 1-2Mbps, and USB 2.0 Flash Memory plugged into the laptop gives a transfer speed of a more nicer 12Mbps.
With thanks
Mark
How do I connect a laptop and a computer with an ethernet cable?
I’m trying to connect my laptop and a desktop my uncle gave me so I can use the desktop as primary storage for both of the computers. I don’t really care if the desktop gets internet access, but right now I can’t get the two computers to “talk” to each other at all. I have them connected to each other via ethernet cable… now what?

To connect to the internet via ethernet cables, do I require a phone line?
I have a Virgin Media wireless hub where I can connect to the internet. This router works through fibre optic cables as we did not opt to have a phone line installed. So can I connect using an ethernet cable without having a phone line or will I be unable to?
What’s better/faster: ethernet cable or usb cable?
I have a 2wire dsl modem/router with 4 ethernet jacks and 1 usb port and im wondering what is better to use to connect to the internet/download stuff? I know its possible to use USB to connect, you just need a driver, but is it better or slower than the standard ethernet cable (cat5)??
How can i get the internal ethernet port to work on my dell inspiron 4000?
There are no lights flashing, orange or otherwise. Also, when I connect the ethernet cable, no network connection registers in Network Connections. I have checked Device Manager, and no yellow exclamation marks appear next to the Wan miniport device, though this device is only listed when I view the hidden devices. Under Network Adapters, there is only the Netgear Usb Network Adapter that I have been using, nothing else.

Ethernet speed and cables questions?
Hello, I have a few questions about my ethernet speed and if I’m getting the 1000MB in my 10/100/1000 ethernet switch. My first question is if Cat5e and Enhanced Cat5 are the same? I have the Enhanced Cat5 cable connecting my modem to the switch, but the switch is only reading 100M (only one light is green). I have the Cat5e (doesn’t say enhanced on it) connecting my PC to my ethernet switch. This is where my main concern comes in. Both lights are on (1000M) for the port that my computer is connected to, but only the 100M is reading in the port my modem is connected to. So do I have wrong cables? Is the modem too old for 10/100/1000?
I hope this isn’t too confusing. Basically the port the modem connects to has just 100M lit up, but the port connecting my PC has both lit up.
I just did a test on Speedtest.net and its only reading 10-13 Mbps (mega-BITS not bytes). That doesn’t seem to fast…
Thanks,
Mike
